Letra House is a moody underground wine bar and restaurant in the Sydney CBD, tucked beneath Italian eatery Palazzo Salato—both from the Love Tilly Group (Love, Tilly Devine, Dear Sainte Éloise and Fabbrica Pasta Shop).
After entering through a cobblestone passage, guests are greeted with a dimly lit, intimate 60-seat space that would fit in a quaint corner in Europe, with exposed brick, dark timber, leather booth seating, a bronze bar and an open kitchen where all the magic unfolds.
The refined, seasonally driven Spanish-leaning menu covers a selection of tapas and small plates like croquettes, grilled octopus skewers and manchego custard-stuffed doughnuts, to larger dishes built around whole fish and cuts of meat that are great for sharing.
The wine program is also dynamic, stacked with well-known and under-appreciated wine regions around the world, including chilled and rich reds, skin contact expressions, crisp whites, rosé and sparkling wines. Around 50 hand-selected bottles are available at any time and, excitingly, they're all available by the glass too.
For those in more of a martini mood, the cocktail list’s star is the Letra Martini made with olive leaf gin, dry Madeira and a spiked tomato concentrate concocted in the Four Pillars lab, or there’s the Spritz de la Letra—a refreshing mix of Tromba tequila, yuzushu, salted passionfruit, chardonnay verjus and soda.
Perfect for pre-dinner sips, shared group meals or a late-night rendezvous, Letra House is well worth a stop on your next night out in the CBD—just look out for the pink neon angel.
