The 1kg Gelato Messina Easter Egg Is Back For 2026 And It’s More Hectic Than Ever
If Easter ever had a patron saint of dessert, it would be Gelato Messina. And right on schedule, the gelato giants have announced the return of their annual Easter egg. The kind that doesn’t just sit politely in a foil wrapper. This one has layers, secrets, and a centre that deserves a drumroll (and probably a large spoon).

The Messina Easter Egg lands online on Monday, 10 March, with sales opening at 12pm AEDT. If you’re the organised type or simply a dessert strategist, the Messina app unlocks early access at 11:50am AEDT, which historically has been the difference between triumph and staring wistfully at a sold-out page.
So what’s inside the shell this year?
Crack through a dark chocolate exterior, and you’ll find a full dessert architecture: chocolate cheesecake gelato folded with baked cheesecake chunks, a layer of chocolate cream cheese and chocolate crumb mousse, followed by salted caramel chocolate cookie mousse, all secreting away a salted caramel centre. It’s cheesecake, sundae and Easter egg all rolled into one.
Pick-ups are scheduled for 2–5 April, just in time to present it dramatically at the Easter table or sneakily hide it in the fridge behind the vegetables like a chocolate-loving ghoul.
If past years are anything to go by, hesitation is the enemy here. Messina’s Easter drops tend to vanish quickly.

Here’s how to get your hands on one:
- Download the messina app and tap the Easter tile for your secret password
- Head to the Messina website at 11:50am AEDT on March 10 and enter said password
- Select your collection store and then pick up in store between April 2-5
The egg “serves six” and weighs almost a kilo, so you do the maths and mental prep. Orders are online only and available to collect from all Messina stores. Hop to it.
