Rockpool Perth Is Getting A $3 Million Makeover—Including A Much Bigger Bar

After 15 years of wood-fired steaks and special-occasion dinners, Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth is getting a $3 million refresh, with a completely redesigned bar, updated dining room and an additional private dining space on the way.

The Crown Perth restaurant will temporarily close on Monday 5 October and reopen on Wednesday 28 October. It’s the venue’s biggest interior update since opening in 2011—and, according to owner Hunter Street Hospitality, the most extensive interior overhaul any Rockpool has received since the brand expanded nationally.

For regulars, there’s plenty staying put. The signature entrance walkway, open kitchen and wood-fired grill will all remain, as will Executive Chef Brendan Owens and the restaurant’s focus on premium Western Australian produce and dry-aged steaks.

The biggest change is happening atthe bar, where the existing narrow space will be reworked and seating will increase from 24 to 41. Expect leather stools lining a black marble-clad bar topped with natural titanium granite, with more room to settle in for a pre-dinner drink, a nightcap or an evening at the bar itself.

Behind the redesign is SGB Group, which also delivered Rockpool Sydney’s recent update. In Perth, the team is bringing green marble, warm timber and tan leather into the dining room, alongside custom joinery, bespoke wine cabinetry and updated furniture.

A revised floorplan will lift the restaurant’s overall capacity from 238 to 261 guests. The two existing private dining rooms will also get a refresh, with a third space joining the line-up.

And while the familiar entrance walkway isn’t going anywhere, what greets you at the end will look different: a new brass, stone and timber host desk, feature wine displays and layered lighting.

The kitchen will continue much as regulars know it, with Owens leading a menu built around local seafood, seasonal produce and carefully sourced beef dry-aged in house. The open kitchen and wood-fired grill will remain central to the dining room, keeping the cooking on show.

The works also coincide with a separate redevelopment of Crown Metropol’s central lobby atrium, where a new bar and entertainment destination is planned.

For now, Rockpool’s reopening is set for Wednesday 28 October, with more details and a first look at the finished space expected closer to the unveiling.
