Find Peak Relaxation At This Luxe Brisbane Head Spa

By Ranyhyn Laine

We don’t know about you, but Japanese head spas are all over our feeds at the moment, with people finding peak relaxation thanks to the blissful treatment. If you’ve been dying to try it for yourself and find out if it’s just as good as TikTok makes out it is, we can confirm it’s the most blissful experience you’ll ever have in your life—and you can do it right here in Brisbane at Atama Head Spa

This New Farm salon was the very first Japanese head spa to land in Australia, founded by hair, scalp and wellness expert, Gabriel Skalic. Inside the serene space on James Street you’ll find two treatment areas behind gauzy white curtains, ready to whisk you away to tranquillity.

Having spent years learning from renowned practitioners and masters in Japan, Skalic has developed a unique head spa method that combines several different rituals focused on both wellness and beauty, so you can be sure you’re in good hands here. Not just a relaxation treatment, a head spa can help with scalp health, relieve tension and headaches and even lift facial lines by improving blood circulation and lymph drainage. Your head spa will start with discussion about any niggling concerns you might have about your skin, scalp and hair over herbal tea, whether it’s dandruff, hair loss or tension headaches, so your therapist can tailor your treatment to you. They can even do a microscopy on your scalp to get a close up look at any scalp conditions that may be troubling you.

Then, it’s into the treatment area, where a head, neck and shoulder massage will help you begin to unwind, easing tension and stiffness from your scalp. Next you’ll be reclined into the specially designed basin which prevents neck stiffness for a deeply cleansing shampoo and treatment that will leave your scalp feeling invigorated and your hair lusciously fresh. Each treatment also ends with a blowdry, so you’ll walk out not just feeling incredible, but looking it too.

There’s several different treatments to choose from, ranging from 60 to 120 minutes, but the 60 minute atama head spa for $290 is a good place to start. Yes it’s pricey, but we can tell you from experience, you will walk out feeling the most relaxed you’ve ever been. For anyone experiencing chronic tension headaches and just the general heightened level of stress that arrived sometime in 2020 and hasn’t left since, a head spa may be just the little luxury you need right now. Book yourself in here.
