You have probably seen—or, like us, become addicted to—Mukbang videos on TikTok of brightly hued bags pouring out the freshest catch: a decadent seafood boil. Think juicy prawns, slurpable crabs, and corn on the cob full of cajun goodness in the ultimate hands-on experience.

If you’re ready to slap on your bibs and gloves, we’ve found the spots in Brisbane where the tables are set and ready to be dumped with a rich seafood feast. Forget what your parents told you; you’re definitely allowed to play with your food here.

From Louisiana to our River City, here are Brisbane’s best seafood boils.

Kickin’ Inn

Various Locations

Kickin’ Inn is the dominant player in the crab boil world. If you’ve eaten there, we think you’ll know why. Simply choose your seafood, your preferred spice level and one of their mouth-watering sauces (garlic cajun, every time) and the team at Kickin’ Inn will boil up a bag of decadent, rich seafood catered perfectly to your taste. Our suggestion: bring three or four mates and order their mixed bag for a taste of everything. We’re talking prawns, pipis, blue swimmer crab, octopus, mussels, corn and potato all dripping in that insane cajun sauce.

Creole Soul Kitchen

448 Boundary Street, Spring Hill

While these guys don’t serve crab boil, Creole Soul Kitchen is the place to go to taste true Cajun food. The team here are slinging classic Louisiana favourites such as chicken fried steak, gumbo and crawfish etouffee. Our suggestion? You can’t go past the classics with the chicken and sausage gumbo: a delicious stew with cajun seasonings, the holy trinity of cajun cooking (onion, celery and green capsicum), dark roux and rice served with fresh toasted French bread. It’s the most authentic taste of Creole food you’ll find in Brisbane.

Krabby’s Crab Boil

The Barracks, 61 Petrie Terrace, Brisbane

For a crab boil with a South-East Asian twist, head down to Krabby’s Crab Boil. The selection of seafood they have here is unmatched. Think Alaskan king crab, Canadian snow crab, Moreton Bay bugs, QLD redclaw crayfish and basically any and every kind of seafood you could possibly be craving. If you like it hot like us, try the Szechuan hot and spicy sauce for a deliciously spicy and tongue-numbing experience.

Happy Crab Seafood

127 Creek Street, Brisbane CBD

As the name suggests, Happy Crab seafood specialises in crab. They have earned a reputation among Brisbane’s seafood lovers for their Happy Seagatarian Bags. Simply choose between snow crab, bugs, King Crab, or even a whole lobster and your bag will come with prawns, mussels, chorizo, baby octopus, corn and potato. Why not upgrade to their Singapore chili sauce with deep fried mantou, too?
