Who knew Brisbane could do winter so well? As the temperatures dip, pop-up igloos, cosy fire pits and alpine-inspired dining experiences have officially arrived in the river city for the cooler months.

Whether you’re settling into your very own private igloo, indulging in decadent chocolate fondues by the glowing fire pit or sipping in fancy French bubbles, these seasonal experiences make for the perfect excuse to embrace the chill. Here are the best winter igloo pop-ups and fire pit dining experiences in Brisbane right now.

Lina Rooftop

74–80 Tribune Street, South Brisbane

We all know Lina Rooftop as a summer hotspot—30-metre infinity pool, open-air terrace, Mediterranean-inspired poolside cabanas. But what if we told you it’s flipping the script for winter? They’re calling it Maison De Ski—an alpine escape complete with private igloo experiences and your very own fire pit. Of course, it has a menu to match. Think snow-kissed cocktails, fluffy house-made focaccia, baked camembert tartiflette, cherry wood-smoked French soup and tableside chocolate fondue. You can go the silver package for $89pp or opt for the more elevated gold package for $119pp. Maison De Ski is only around until Sunday 2 August.

Winter has arrived at one of Brisbane’s most historic buildings and iconic restaurants, Customs House with its all-new champagne domes. You can order up on the bubbles (Veuve Clicquot Champagne, no less) by the glass or the bottle, or opt for one of the Aussie or French wines, beers and cocktails. There are a few different ways you can go booking one of these bad boys. The Winter High Tea is available from Tuesday to Thursday for $110pp, Dining In The Domes is also a weekday experience for $160pp and the Champagne Bar Experience is going for $95pp from Friday to Sunday.

The sprawling dining and entertainment hub Halls of Rivermakers is going full winter spec, decking out the greens with private igloos and fire pit tables—and they’re only around until Saturday 29 August. Think dining under the stars, seasonal cocktails and warming plates. You go one of two ways here: the private igloos start at $69 for a two-hour sitting and include a curated set menu plus a free-flowing wine and beer package, with the outdoor fire pit table experiences much the same—set menu, bottomless booze and riverside views. If you were waiting for something special to hit the group chat with, this very well might be it.

Think you know the Emporium Hotel? Think again. The five-star boutique hotel is transforming into what they’re calling an Emporium Alpine Escape. They’ve plucked inspo from North American mountain resorts with snow-coated signage pointing you in the right direction. The Terrace becomes The Terrace Summit Bar with a full life-sized perspex bear and red skis while The Reserve Wine Bar turns into The Reserve lodge, complete with chalet interiors, pine trees, perspex moose and faux fur. They might not have igloos but they do have wood-smoked cocktails, warming mulled wine plus chicken and potato gratin pie and gooey baked brie. Go the extra mile with some Mumm Cordon Rouge Champagne.
