Cafes are the backbone of our society. Hungover? Cafe. Need a pick-me-up after an early morning wake up call? Cafe. Cute brekkie date? Cafe. Brunch to catch up on all the hot goss? Cafe. Basically, what we’re trying to say is that when it comes to such an essential part of life like cafes, you need nothing but the best. And you know where you can find the best? Kangaroo Point. You’ve got views, you’ve got quick access to the city, and, most importantly, you’ve got coffee. Here’s our list of the best cafes in Kangaroo Point.
Moonshine Coffee Roasters
Bringing a taste of Byron Bay to Brisbane, Moonshine Coffee Roasters opened up in Kangaroo Point to brighten up our mornings. Originally created as a family owned wholesale roastery in the Byron Hinterlands, Moonshine started in an old mechanic shed and eventually expanded all the way to our sunny city. Obviously, the hole-in-the-wall joint is known for their iconic coffee, but if you’re feeling a bit hangry too, you can fend off the rage with some Doughluxe doughnuts and Wardell pies.
Medley
Cancel your round-the-world trip—Medley has a combination of flavours from everywhere you can think of…hence the name. From shakshuka, to buchimgae pancakes, to za'atar avocado, to plain ol’ banana bread, their menu is for both the adventurous and picky alike. And, just to take the edge off, they have a range of brunch cocktails and spiked coffee on offer from 10am. Yes, spiked coffee. Who doesn’t love a little bit of spiced rum in their long black? Day drinking never tasted so good.
Joey’s
If you’re after brekkie with a view, Joey’s is the place for you. Located on the edge of the Kangaroo Point cliffs, with an unbeatable view of the city and Story Bridge across the river, you can have your superfood bowl with a side of aesthetics. If you’re erring on the hungrier side, we’d recommend “Joey’s Brekkie”—bacon, poached eggs, braised mushrooms and avocado on sourdough toast? We’re down.
Joedy’s By Sinclair
Born out of a love of hospitality and local produce, Joedy’s By Sinclair serves up locally sourced and sustainable ingredients in the form of delicious brunch items. We’re talking breakfast okonomiyaki, croissant eggs benedict, and souffle pancakes with matcha custard. And, if that doesn’t quite take the cake, how about you order a mango and sriracha margarita? Now that’ll be sure to get the good vibes—and the (metaphorical) tea—flowing.
Flour Leopard
Gluten haters unite! Ironically, Flour Leopard is the place for all your gluten-free needs. No more looking out for that tiny “gf” logo, or asking the “friendly staff” who may or may not know what you can have. No more. This completely gluten-free cafe serves up everything from brekkie burgers to orange blossom hotcakes. The kicker? It’s pet friendly too. Bring the pooch and have the best gluten free brunch of your life.
Cups On Wellington
We give you one chance to guess what road Cups On Wellington is located on. If you guessed Wellington Road, we’re so proud—10 points for you! The coral neon-lit cafe is the stuff of millennial dreams, making your coffee run before all your “adulting” just that little bit more insta-worthy. Of course, you can get all your brekkie staples like eggs benny, smashed avo, and mince jaffles here, but the real star of the show is the brews. With a three page menu just for coffee, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Don’t know what to get? Chug them all, we won’t judge.
Hey Joe
You can get more than just a cup of joe at Hey Joe. Their huge all-day breakfast menu—which accompanies a dedicated vegan menu—includes the likes of breakfast gnocchi with mushrooms, spicy scrambled eggs bhurji, and Joe’s signature potato and feta hash cakes with pesto hollandaise and soft poached eggs. If you’re looking for Kangaroo Point cafes, this is one of the best.
