They say don’t mess with perfection, and as such, Howard Smith Wharves’ dining lineup has remained untouchable—from the high-energy of Yoko to the hearty fare at Felon’s. But in big news, a newcomer is set to join the riverfront precinct this week: welcome to Fellini’s.
The new Italian trattoria is inspired by the authentic flavours of coastal Italy, boasting alfresco dining along the river walk where you can enjoy Italian street food and drinks. Catering to both dine-in and takeaway guests, Fellini’s carries the foundations of a traditional trattoria in a modern setting.

But, hey, doesn’t Howard Smith Wharves already have an Italian hotspot in Ciao Papi? Correct. Think of Fellini’s as Ciao Papi’s laidback neighbour for a quick fix, as opposed to the latter’s lingering appeal.
Head chef Carmine Guarino (also co-owner of Scugnizzi) will channel 26 years of experience into Fellini’s, which is named after legendary Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini—whose iconic work like La Dolce Vita and 8 ½ are known for embodying the romance of Italy.
“Fellini’s brings the perfect mix of casual and Mediterranean dining,” he said. “Growing up in Napoli, I wanted to bring my roots to the city of Brisbane and offer something the whole family could enjoy. Our vision is to create an authentic, high-energy Italian street food experience that transports guests to the vibrant trattorias of Naples and the Amalfi Coast. It will make Italian food more accessible, faster and fun.”

The approachable menu features a wide range of small plates, mains, pizza, handmade pasta, and dessert. There’s bruschetta crowned with stracciatella, paccheri with fresh crab, and rich eggplant parmigiana. Straight from the pizza oven, enjoy all your favourite classics, from margherita to salami. As for dessert, it’s a no-brainer with the likes of sweet tiramisu and cheese on offer.
What’s an Italian feast without a vino in hand? At Fellini’s, the beverage list includes a curated selection of fine wines, crisp beers, and handcrafted cocktails capturing the spirit of the Mediterranean in a glass. Fellini’s will also be open for breakfast daily.

Fellini’s officially opens on 10 September.
