12 Awesome Things To Do In Melbourne This Weekend

The long weekend is upon us (hallelujah) and while most of us will be gearing up for the Grand Final, we’ve also got heaps of other goodies to fill your weekend. We’ve got a beer and cider festival, a cocktail masterclass and a fried chicken giveaway! (And seriously what's better than free chicken?)

Here are 12 awesome things to do in Melbourne this weekend:

Fried Chicken Giveaway

This long weekend give the gift of fried chicken. To celebrate their first birthday, Son In Law are doing a buy-one-get-one-giveaway with up to 300 serves of fried chicken going out this Friday between midday and 4 pm via Deliveroo. Every bill over $30 in-house between Friday and Saturday will also score you a free serving of fried chicken. Get down to their Collingwood store or check out their page on Deliveroo to cash in on their birthday gifts!

5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche

Just as weird and awesome as it sounds! This Fringe show was an award-winning, Off-Broadway smash. It’s 1956 and the Cold War is at its peak, but that won’t stop the charming widows of the Susan B Anthony Society For The Sisters Of Gertrude Stein from celebrating their annual Quiche Breakfast. Odyssey Grand Final Public Holiday Eve

If you’re looking for a long weekend party adventure then look no further than Odyssey’s Grand Final Public Holiday Eve at Glamorama. Specifically curated for the long weekend, the shenanigans will continue long into the night and leave you with a story or two to tell in the morning! Dan White, DJ JNETT, Edd Fisher and Louis McCoy will all be stepping up throughout the night to provide some quality tunes. Get down before 9pm for free entry or $15 at the door after that. Pinot and Duck Wine Dinner

Roast duck dumplings, duck spring rolls, Peking duck wraps and stir-fried shredded duck. If your is watering from just reading that then you definitely need to check out Martin Preston’s Pinot and Duck Dinner. Hosted at David’s Restaurant, this dinner will pair a three-course meal with some top quality Pinot Noirs. Tickets are $119 and you can get them here. Also, don’t drive, there will be a lot of wine!

Sazerac Masterclass

The official cocktail of New Orleans. If you’re a fan of the sazerac or always wanted to try it then you need to check out Po’ Boy’s cocktail master class. Hosted at Huey Long’s this class is $60 will teach you everything you need to know about this New Orleans cocktail, from how to mix it to how it actually came to be. Friday 30th

Neptunium Presents: Final Destination

Grand Final Eve is shaping up to be a massive one. We’re back at Glamorama with Neptunium Records putting on an absolutely unforgettable showcase of music from deep house and disco to garage and tech house. The local and interstate lineup features Robina and Bass Cadet along with a host of others. Entry will be $10 at the door starting at 3pm and kicking on until 5am (yeah you heard right..5am). Great Southern Beer & Cider Festival

Beer and cider enthusiasts need to head down to the Yarra Glen Racecourse this Friday for the inaugural Great Southern Beer & Cider Festival. The festival will showcase over 80 craft beers and ciders as well as gourmet food and live music throughout the day. Pizza and Hip Hop

Pizza, drinks specials and top Melbourne DJs, what more could you want? Head down to Fratelli Fresh this Friday night for $15 pizzas and DJ Duchess Kay spinning the decks (am I saying that right?). Get creative this Friday at No Vacancy Gallery’s hands-on jewelry making workshop. The class is $25 for two hours and will teach you to design and craft your very own necklaces and earrings to take home. Barista at Home

Veneziano’s coffee making classes just continue to impress. This Saturday they’re hosting a course that’s perfect for home coffee enthusiasts who want to perfect their barista skills and impress their guests. The class is $99 and you can even bring your own machine and learn on that. Spring Design Market

Cruise down to the Atrium in Fed Square this Sunday for an exhibition of some of Melbourne’s finest independent designers. This free event will feature stalls from designers and makers showcasing their jewellery and accessories, fashion, home wares, art, stationery, beauty and body products. Speed Dating Party

This week Dear Pluto are coming down to Melbourne to put on a speed dating party for young creatives. They’ve been running these kinds of events in Sydney for a while now and are setting up shop at 1000 £ Bend for two events on Wednesday and Thursday. If you’re sick of swiping left all and are keen to meet some new people and have a drink under a disco ball then why not give this a go.
