For many Melbournians, much of this week has been spent coming to terms with the giant tennis racquet shaped hole in our lives and wondering “what’s the point of even going on?”.
Well, while you’ve been writing #fedal fanfiction and trying to figure out what the hell it was that ball kid had to wipe off the court in the fifth set of the men’s final, we’ve compiled a list of 13 awesome things to do in Melbourne this weekend.
Club Aperol At The Botanical
Make the most of the sunshine and get amongst Club Aperol’s last week at The Botanical. Nestled on the edge of the Botanical gardens (obvs), watch the sun go down daily (until February 9th) and unwind from the week with an ice cold Spritz in hand. Get all the deets here.
QV Outdoor Cinema
Running until 26 February, the QV Outdoor Cinema is jam packed with live entertainment, red carpets, charity screenings, delicious food and free cocktails! This open air cinema is way cheaper than your normal trip to the movies—at only $12 a ticket, who needs a roof?! Movie sessions begin at 8:30pm, Thursday to Sunday. Check out their website for more info.
Melbourne Fashion Adventure
This weekend, why not embark on an adventure of the most stylish kind? Discover some of Melbourne’s most unique boutiques with fashionistas and stylists who will help you find amazing clothes and teach you exactly how to style them. Discounts will be available in selected stores and—of course—there will be plenty of refreshments. For info on prices and bookings, head to their website.
Veuve Clicquot Summer Garden
If you’re feeling a little bit fancy this weekend, pop on down to Ms Collins to enjoy some bubbles, great music and all ‘round good vibes at the Veuve Clicquot Summer Garden. After work drinks just got turned up a notch with $6 bubbles, the super popular $20 Ribs and Burger special and live entertainment on Fridays. Open 4pm to 9pm, Wednesday to Friday.
Thursday 2 February
Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band
He may have been Born In The U.S.A but this weekend musical legend and super cool guy Bruce Springsteen will be reuniting with the E Street Band right here in Melbourne. The reunions don’t stop there with special guests Jet (of Are You Gonna Be My Girl fame) reforming especially for Bruce. The tour sold almost two million tickets in 2016 alone so we’re getting in quick before they all run out!
La Trobe University Art Now Summer School
For the more cultured Listers, why not spend your Thursday at an open lecture discussing the history of David Hockney’s portraiture? Starting at 5:30pm, this free, one-night-only event offers art enthusiasts an exclusive after-hours viewing of this impressive exhibition currently held at the NGV.
Friday 3 February
AFLW Round 1: Carlton vs. Collingwood
Kicking off on 3 February, the NAB AFL Women’s League is exciting for more than one reason and those reasons begin with a field full of lady athletes kicking butt and end with the fact that the games are completely free to attend. Some of the games are a BYO deck chair and picnic blanket situation, while others will see you kicking back in the grandstand. Regardless, there’s no need to book your tickets in advance, but you should head here for all of the deets.
Taco And Tequila Fiesta
If there’s one thing we can say with absolute certainty, it’s that tacos and tequila—just like Kim and Kanye, hipsters and topknots, wine and...well...everything—were made for each other. That’s exactly why The Food Truck Park in Preston is holding a three-day event to celebrate this beautiful union. Open Friday to Sunday, come and taste delicious Latin American street food and enjoy a few sneaky margaritas thanks to Barry’s Bar.
Rooftop Beach Party At Inflation
Whoever said you couldn’t have a beach party in the middle of the CBD clearly wasn’t trying hard enough. This Friday night, Inflation Nightclub is transforming its rooftop into a tropical beach oasis, complete with slushie machines, pop up pools and a FREE sausage sizzle—take that Bunnings! The tunes are guaranteed to be just as hot as this weekend’s weather forecast so make sure you snag yourself a ticket.
Saturday 4 February
Let Go Fest
Let go and have a blast this Saturday at Let Go Fest on the Mornington Peninsula. Featuring artists like Rüfüs, Hayden James, Remi and Set Mo (just to name a few), the musical lineup is just the beginning of what this incredible festival has to offer. Come along for the free ferris wheel rides and fairy floss, and stay for the chance to win up to $500 worth of awesome prizes—including a $200 drink card for you and your fresh crew. Head to their website for all the details.
Bolte Beach And Pooch Party
For one day only, the Docklands will play host to an exclusive pooch-friendly beach party. Spend your day relaxing in a deck chair, listening to live tunes or playing table tennis with your fur baby—he may not be able to hold the paddle very well, but boy is it cute when he tries! Getting a bit peckish? Chow down on one of Woofy’s delicious gourmet hot dogs. You can find more info here.
Sunday 5 February
Nuts About Tella Celebrates World Nutella Day
A couple of weeks ago we posted a story about a glorious little thing known as the Leaning Tella of Pisa and the whole of Melbourne lost its damn mind. Well, to celebrate World Nutella Day, the masterminds behind the historically significant Nutella Burger will be opening the doors to their Lygon Street pop-up this Sunday from midday to 10pm. Head on down to Nuts About Tella on Lygon Street and indulge in donuts, pizzas and ice cream, all featuring everybody’s favourite chocolate hazelnut spread.
*Queue heavy breathing.*
