If you've got no idea where to start, we've compiled a neat list of all the venues we think you should be visiting. Hokusai Art Exhibition at NGV

The NGV is killing it this year, no doubt about it. And this weekend The Katsushika Hokusai exhibit has landed, bringing a total of 176 works to the gallery. The exhibit is an ode to Hokusai's 70-year career. As an artist, he never attained financial success and now, just a decade after his death, he's received global recognition as one of the most influential and creative minds in the history of Japanese art. Get down to the NGV to see why.

The Dark Side of Fashion Exhibit

How bad is walking into Zara and blowing $400 on clothes you're probably going to wear once and then chuck out in about six months? Well, it's actually worse than you probably think. The Fast Fashion: The Dark Side of Fashion exhibit is making major waves around the world and has finally touched down in Melbourne at the esteemed RMIT Gallery (soz Sydney-siders). It gives exhibit-goers an insight into what really goes on behind the scenes of the fashion industry, and how consumer habits are negatively affecting the world and our environment.

This event combines the element of surprise with all (edible) things that are Christmassy. So get out your fave (aka ugliest) Chrissy jumper out and prepare to be stuff yourself with a decadent three-course meal. There'll be multiple glasses of Mud House wine, carolling and food, glorious food. The location will be announced two hours before the event. Can we get a drum roll please?!

Assemble Spaces Workshop

Among the many workshops being run at Assemble Spaces this weekend, we're most pumped for the evening session dedicated to teaching the art of terrarium building. You’ll get to build your very own terrarium ('cause let's face it, you can do it better than the shops do) and learn all the ins and outs that go along with it – which plants to choose, soil choice and how to care for your creation. All you need to do is show up with your own vessel and they'll bring the wine, beer and nibbles. Terrarium building is hungry work, you know.

Winter Whisky Masterclass

It's not everyday you get the chance to hit up a one-of-a-kind whisky masterclass. This weekend the Champagne Dame herself, Kyla Kirkpatrick, is hosting the event at one of Melbourne's swankiest cocktail bars. The masterclass will be served in Waterford crystal, and if you're lucky enough to win the evening's competition, you could be taking home six Connoisseur Heritage Tumbler glasses. We think you should know, you'll have the tedious task of trying five different kinds of whiskies, paired with delicious cheese. Geez that's rough.

Death To Nuggets

Chicken nugget memes are great, but it's about time someone got real about what they're really doing for our kids (other than providing meme content). The Death To Nuggets campaign was created by a Melbourne dad of three and is aimed at mitigating the issue of childhood obesity issue in Melbourne. The mission of the campaign is to inspire kids with imaginative, nourishing food, and on Saturday 5 August they'll be hosting a guided healthy cooking class at My Son Joy in South Melbourne.
