Patrick Christie's 'Captured' Exhibition

The talented Australian-born artist, Patrick Christie will be showing his works in Australia for the first time in five years this weekend. With his notable following in New York, it's no wonder that majority of the artworks have already been sold prior to opening. Consider this your chance to view what you can't have. Works from the ‘Captured ’ exhibition include rendered still life with a focus on Australian flora and insects, figurative and erotic drawing and more.

The Grainger Museum at Melbourne Uni is currently playing host to a display of more than 50,000 objects that had a pivotal role in the career of Australian composer, arranger and pianist, Percy Grainger. The collection includes scores, manuscripts, diaries, ethnographic objects, furniture, decorative arts, photographs, artworks and clothing.

And to make the event even more epic, there'll be pop-up talks and back-of-house collection displays to tie in with Melbourne Fashion Week.

Keen for a bit of artist appreciation this weekend? Melbourne-based not-for-profit arts organisation, Schoolhouse Studios, will be hosting their inaugural fundraising exhibition. The organisation is dedicated to providing affordable workspaces for emerging artists and creative businesses in inner-city Melbourne and will feature works from over 30 Melburnian artists.

Design In Bloom at St. Collins Lane

This weekend there's one place where they'll be honouring all of the important F words... florals and fashion, that is. At St. Collins Lane there's going to be an installation celebrating florals and fashion, showcasing six emerging designers from the Council of Textiles and Fashion. There's also going to be sales from surrounding retailers as part of VAEFNO.

Sustainable September Festival at South Melbourne Market

It's always imperative to be the change you want to see in the world. And that's exactly why South Melbourne Market are hosting Sustainable September, a month-long festival dedicated to inspiring both kids and adults to live a more sustainable life. The festival will showcase the wide array of sustainability practices at the South Melbourne Market, including kids’ activities, workshops, tours, a Sustainability Circuit and a special Turning Trash to Treasure exhibition.

Chiaroscura at Absinthesalon

There's a good chance that once you've spent a couple of hours at the Absinthesalon you'll be the definition of lucid meets obscure, just like Sophie Caligari's alternative process photographic exhibition, Chiaroscura. In her exhibition, solitude will meet collective and past will meet present. There will also be an appearance from performance artist Isabel Musidora. A good excuse to go chase the green fairy this Friday.

Two Worlds Festival

Two Worlds Festival is a not-for-profit event that aims to bridge the knowledge gap between the Indigenous and Western worlds by showcasing creative talents from both cultures. There'll be stimulating and interactive entertainment from performers, as well as art—both the traditional and not so traditional kind. Consider this a true celebration of Australian culture, the old and the new.

Red Bull Music Academy Presents CARL CRAIG Synthesizer Ensemble

Melbourne is being graced by true DJ royalty this weekend. Carl Craig, hailed as a creative visionary and electronic music icon, is bringing his world-class, Grammy-nominated sets down under. You'll be able to catch him live in concert along with a symphony of synthesizers.

Four Pillars Gin Dinner

Melbourne Comedy’s Rising Stars

Fancy yourself a bit of a comedian? We think you should check out Melbourne Comedy’s Rising Stars show to see how it’s really done. Melbourne Comedy has been bringing the heat all year with its Rising Stars shows, so it’s exciting to say this show’s line-up is the biggest yet. Hosted by Michael Shafar from Triple J's Good Az Friday and Channel 10's The Project, it's fully loaded with a stack of comedians from TV and radio. This is the last round of Rising Stars for the year and is definitely one you don't want to miss.

SY Spring Festival Pop-Up Park

The best part about being done with winter is being able to do outdoorsy stuff without ridiculous layers of clothing. Over the course of the first two weekends in September, you can head down to Yarra One for a little taste of the South Yarra lifestyle. The SY Spring Festival Pop-Up Park will be celebrating the best that South Yarra has to offer, and you can bet that means food, fashion and culture. Activities include giant Jenga, live music, art installations and more.

Red Bull Reign

Red Bull Reign is one of those events that combines going local with going global. If you know a thing or two about balling, you're invited to put your skills to the test in a 3 vs 3 tournament with a cumulative scoring system. Several international contests will be taking place. If you manage to win in your local competition, you'll be backing your win by repping your country at the first ever World Finals in Washington DC, USA. Entries are still open - you just need two mates to join in the fun.

Bar SK First Birthday Party

Bar SK are celebrating their first birthday, and with good reason. Since their opening only a year ago, they've played host to more than twenty exhibitions, with more than a hundred works shown and (it goes without saying) many beers drunk. This Father's Day, Bang Bang are hosting an epic Father's Day Brekky, in collaboration with Cheltenham-base brewing company, Wolf of the Willows. This big brekky will consist of two courses, specially created by Bang Bang head chef Matt Dunbar and you'll even have the chance to select your second course from a range of four delectable dishes. The brekky will be followed by a Talk and Taste session with Wolf of Willows, discussing their creative process of their hand crafted, modern ales, as well as a tasting of their range. YMCA Father's Day Fun Run

If your idea of father-child bonding is that of the active sort, then a fun run around The Tan might just be in order. YMCA's Father's Day Fun Run is one of Melbourne's newest Father's Day celebrations, bringing us a course filled with entertainment and surprises. Whether you choose to walk, run, skip, hop, this one will be an all round feel good event. Online registrations close 12pm, 1 September, and you'll even get $50 off a pair of Brooks runners. A Touch of Orange Charity Ball

Bully Zero Australia Foundation are a not-for-profit charity dedicated to delivering cyber safety prevention programs to schools, community groups and sporting clubs and WorkSafe Victoria. They're trying to create a zero-tolerance culture of bullying in Australia. This year they'll be hosting their Bully Zero Charity Ball, with this year's theme being a 'Touch of Orange'. Your ticket will include a lush evening with a three-course meal and drinks. Rhonda Burchmore will be MC for the evening and live entertainment will be provided by Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
