A little food, a little cinema, quite a lot of public discussion and a good ol’ shopping opportunity, Melbourne is dishing up a delightful week of things to do.
Here are our top five things to do in Melbourne this week.
Venician diner at l’ altro mondo
Italian restaurant, l’ altro mondo in Albert Park will this week be hosting its first dinner in a series of regional-focused events. Diners will be treated to the rich flavours of Venice in an evening that will tantalise taste buds with a four course menu and matched European wines. How very romantic!
L’ altro mondo is a bit of a hidden Melbourne gem. Head Chef Domenico De Marco has worked in the kitchens of several Michelin starred restaurants in Europe and closer to home he has worked with renowned chefs such as Luke Mangan and Neil Perry at the Rockpool Group, so certainly knows how to wow with food. To make a booking, call l’ altro mondo on 03 9682 2388
A Walk in the Woods preview screening and Q&A
Bill Bryson (that American guy that wrote a best selling book criticizing Australia) is coming back here to discuss another of his books, A Walk In the Woods, which has been adapted to screen.
Bryson is conducting an exclusive Q&A preview screening in Melbourne. A Walk In the Woods stars Robert Redford, Nick Nolte and Emma Thompson and is a hilarious and touching comedy following Bill Bryson (Redford) and his old friend Katz (Nolte) as they hike the Appalachian Trail. Grab tickets, prepare your questions and head along.
La Svolta Livornese Seafood feast
The La Svolta Livornese Seafood feast will see chef and owner, Valerio Calabro’s mother, Mamma Carla, travel across the globe from the Italian countryside to join the La Svolta team in the kitchen to create a traditional Livornese feast. For the uninitiated, Livornese is the name for a traditional method for cooking fish that originated in Tuscany. But all you really need to know is that it’s deeee-lish. Head along to La Svolta, tuck in and witness some authentic Italian family banter at its best.
If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard of TED X, they’re the independently organised version of TED Talks—the platform that has single handedly made us all infinitely more informed on a huge range of topics that we’ll probably never need to know anything about.
The Point is, TED X is coming to Melbourne and will be discussing dreams, the importance of them and what they can help us achieve. Grab a ticket and head along to hear from storytellers, luminaries, artists and adventurers as they share tales of inspiration and invention.
Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th
