It’s the most patriotic week of the year for all the Aussie’s out there, and Melbourne is celebrating in style. This week we recommend you wander from the Village Garden’s Trailer Park to Eureka 89’s pop-up bar before finishing up at the NGV’s Friday Night Luluc gig. And if that’s not enough, the Yarra’s Edge Moonlight Cinema launches this week, plus you can catch some glorious beats at Temple Brewing Company in Brunswick.
This is going to be a great week, mate!
Australia Day at The Village Garden
Toasta’s, Dude Food Man and Jay’s Yogurt are just a few of the food trucks parked at The Village Garden’s Trailer Park event this Australia Day from 12-8pm, and they’ll be ready to cater to your every need. Triple J’s Hottest 100 will be playing live during the day, and the famous Pavlova cocktail jug will be making a triumphant return. Entry is totally free, so get down to the Village Garden to eat, drink and be patriotic this Tuesday.
Pop-up Bar at Eureka 89
Eureka 89 is launching an exclusive pop-up bar to celebrate Melbourne’s main event of the summer: the Australian Open. For $25 per person, guests will be greeted with a glass of Pimms on arrival and unparalleled views of the Melbourne cityscape and tennis precinct below. This is the perfect place for punters to unwind after a long week while enjoying the grazing style foods that are available for purchase. Tickets can be pre-purchased by calling 03 9693 8889 during business hours. Limited tickets will be available at the door from 7pm.
Luluc performs at Friday Nights at NGV
This Friday night the NGV International is treating us with a performance by Australian duo, Luluc. Their modern folk tunes will fit perfectly into the impressive space, and as a bonus when you purchase a ticket you gain after-hours access into the brilliant Andy Warhol | Ai Wei Wei exhibit, talks, food, drinks and a special DJ set by Andras in the NGV Garden. It’s quite the Friday night activity, if you ask me. Prices vary and bookings are essential, so hit up the NGV website to find out more.
Inside Out screening at Yarra’s Edge | Docklands
It seems that 2016 is the year of watching movies under the stars, and the open-air flicks at Yarra’s Edge are doing it oh so right…because it’s free. This Saturday you can watch Disney’s mind-bogglingly amazing animated film, Inside Out, which delves into the human mind and tugs on your lil (or big!) heartstrings. Located in Point Park, the site opens at 6.30pm so you can take advantage of the food trucks, popcorn and beverage options. The film will start at dusk (approx. 8.30pm) and there will be FREE beanbags for the first 100 moviegoers ($8 a beanbag for everyone else). Click here for more information.
Cliff Koma at Temple Brewing Company | Brunswick
Temple Brewing Co are stepping up the ol’ Sunday session and adding some live music every second Sunday. This week Michigan-born muso, Cliff Koma, will serenade guests with his rhythmic folk rock sounds and contemporary vibe. Head over to Temple Brewing Co’s digs in Brunswick, buy yourself a pint and relax. There’s literally nothing else you should be doing this Sunday.
