things to do in Melbourne

It’s August, guys! Only one more month of putting up with this freezing weather and seemingly endless suffering. But why don’t you make the most of your winter? This week you can grab yourself dinner at Higher Ground, check out a Friends Trivia Night, or attend the midnight screening of Suicide Squad! So who said winter wasn’t fun? Here are 5 awesome things to do in Melbourne this week.

Tuesday 2nd

Scarf Dinners at Higher Ground

If you’ve been wanting to check out Top Paddock and Kettle Black’s new eatery but haven’t had a chance, now is your perfect chance. Higher Ground is collaborating with Scarf to bring you a two-course set menu of $40 per head. You’ll enjoy steamed market fish, Japanese broth, local heirloom carrots and a bunch of other nosh. Best bit? It’s for a good cause! The Scarf program helps refugees and asylum seekers find employment, many of whom will be working at Higher Ground! This is a Tuesday with a good cause and an epic feed. Book your spot here.

Cocktail Party Classics

Throwing the ultimate cocktail party can be super stressful, that’s why Locavore is helping you out. From mozzarella to mascarpone, you’ll be educated into all the elements of cheese making! This three-hour cooking class will teach you all the need-to-know, so you’ll throw the best parties for your mates. Head down to Lilydale to score a lesson on how to bake some of the best goods there are. Tickets are $135 per person, and you can grab them here. You’ll also score 10% off your next cooking class and a Locavore tote bag!

Wednesday 3rd

Avenue Q Returns!

Avenue Q the musical is back again to have you in a fit of giggles this season! Running for two weeks, this musical has nabbed the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book–so we’re sure it will have you in fits of side-splitting laughter. These innocent looking puppets are not as demure as they seem, and the show will be packed with sexual innuendos, puppet debauchery, and excessive drinking. The musical is only running for two weeks, so be sure to grab your tickets.

Thursday 4th

Suicide Squad Midnight Screening

We know you’ve been waiting for Suicide Squad as long as we have, so why not head down to the midnight screening of it? Starring our own Aussie babe Margot Robbie, this blockbuster is the perfect film for our inner nerds. And we know you’ll be dreaming of having the same skills as these infamous supervillains. Get your popcorn and choc tops ready!

Friends Trivia Night at the Derby
