Follow The Neon Martini Sign Into Backroom, South Yarra’s Hidden Late-Night Bar

By

The inside of a bar with people drinking and a lit up standing area.

Tucked behind the plant-based Latin diner, Lona MisaBackroom a refuge for a late-night wine or cocktail in a vibey ambient space. Situated off Toorak road, Backroom is only identifiable from its small neon-lit martini and indistinguishable concrete door.

Part of South Yarra's Ovolo Hotel, the new clandestine bar feels intimate yet vibrant, designed in partnership with Luchetti Krelle, pendant lighting and a backlit bar contrast against the deep-tone furnishings and textured carpet.

Led by Andrea Gualdi (Ex-Maybe Sammy in Sydney), Isa Raku and Jordan Tredennick, Backroom has been created to be a haven for drinks; with dedicated takeovers highlighting specific regions and even brands, sourcing some of the finest spirits and wine from all around the world.

For the entire month of July Backroom is teaming up with Feels Botanical, Regal Rogue and Capi for an 'All-Australian Takeover', the result of which is a drinks and snacks menu laden with the bold diverse flavours of Australia.

From cocktails infused with botanical flavours like the 'Wild Rose Rick' with Regal Rogue's wild rose vermouth, Feels Vivify and Capi soda to the highballs like the inventive take on a traditional John Collins with blood orange and sage soda.

Following suit on its sister diner, Backroom boasts a completely vegetarian menu of bar snacks and small plates. A seasonal menu sees a rotating lineup of dishes taking cues from the collaboration events, the Australian takeover for July is showcased through options like the dense potato bread served up with a botanical-infused Vegemite butter and shitake anchovies.

Backroom is only open on Fridays and Saturdays from 4.30pm to 11.30pm, find out more over here
