The Rolling Pin, one of Auckland’s favourite food trucks has finally set up a permanent spot in Wynyard Quarter.

After perfecting their dumplings for over three years, the move to become a brick and mortar establishment was well overdue. Due to overwhelming demand, owner Gordon Kong set up the new spot to further expand and create more epic bites we all know and love. The small space features a modern fit out with nods to Chinese culture and wooden textures designed by Gerrick Numan complemented with graphics by Husk Creative.

Increasing their already phenomenal offering, the new menu boasts bao and noodle salads in addition to their drool-worthy dumplings.

If you haven’t already, their Penang pulled beef dumplings are a must-try. Think steamed parcels of happiness packed with 12-hour braised beef with sweet Sambal, an array of mixed vegetables and green pea. Generously topped with slaw, don’t be surprised when you find yourself going back for seconds.

As amazing as expected, their pulled pork and apple bao is our top pick. Packed with Dou Ban chilli slow-cooked pork, caramelised apple and green apple slaw atop a fluffy bao doused in five spiced chilli mayo. It’s sweet, spicy and utterly satisfying.

Plant-based pals can get in on the fun too, with plenty of vegan options throughout the menu. We recommend the zha jian mian noodle salad bowl. Featuring rice noodles topped with zha jiang ‘pork mince’ with smokey corn, peanut, pickled cabbage and green apple slaw. Pro tip: add their signature chilli oil for an extra kick.

What are you waiting for? Do yourself a favour, round up the gang and visit The Rollin Pin ASAP.
