Go easy on the sauce this weekend and all the fresh-produce-laden, sweater-around-the-shoulders fun of Perth’s farmers markets could be yours. Sample cheese, sniff out the freshest fruit and veg, listen to some live music, carb load at some bakery stalls and see if your new boyfriend is husband material (real men don’t run from organic honey). For those resisting this wholesome morning activity, we’ve provided a cross section of Perth’s best farmers markets to get you hooked. You’ll be antiquing and putting more money into your superannuation in no time – you responsible adult, you.
Here are five Perth farmers markets you should visit this weekend!
Kyilla Community Farmer’s Market
Saturdays, 8:00am–11:30am, North Perth
The Kyilla Community Farmer's Market means a Stomping Ground coffee and bacon and egg roll for you (the tasty picante sauce is made by Kyilla Primary School parents), a Kids Zone for the little people and super tasty local treats for you to sample – plus the bagels are dope. Let buskers do their thang at this much-loved market while you cross off your shopping list. You can even get your special doggy friend in on the action with treats from Woof Meow Tweet Squeak.
Subiaco Farmer’s Market
Saturdays, 8:00am – 12 noon, Subiaco Primary School, Subiaco
Do you annoy your friends by referring to yourself as a foodie? Then the vibin’ Subi Farmer’s Market is for you. Have a healthy experience with organic produce and seasonal fruit and veggies, or just admit that you are there for the delicious crumpets from Mr Drummond's popular stall. Live music and kid’s activities create a great atmosphere to nosh and people watch...plus they have some epic events like the best brownie competition. We're there.
Perth City Farmer’s Market
Saturdays, 8:00am–12 noon, East Perth
Enjoy local, organic and biodynamic produce amongst the greenery at Perth City Farmer's Market as happy chickens from Perth City Farm cluck around in the background. The onsite café overlooking the children’s “play pit” has saved many a parent’s sanity. Gardeners can also pick up organic seedlings and discuss the importance of ethical and sustainable produce with fellow green thumbs. Check out their website for an up-to-date list of the stallholders.
Kalamunda Farmer's Market
Sundays, 8:00am–12 noon, Kalamunda
Drive into Perth’s hills for the Kalamunda Farmer's Market and return home feeling like you’ve had a weekend in the country. Fill up on a variety of fine food fare, get a shoulder rub, stow away fresh fruit and veggies, baked goods and dairy for later in the week - all whilst being serenaded by local talent. Get there early to fight over who gets the last cruffin (a croissant/muffin hybrid – schwing!) from La Belle Sweets. Park far away from the action and walk in to avoid farmer’s market rage.
Growers Green Market
Sundays, 8:00am–12 noon, Fremantle
The hippy Freo vibe is dished out in spades at the Growers Green Market - ticking all the boxes for a rollicking good harvest time. Are conserves your jam? (LOL!) Heritage Delights, Margaret’s Strawberries and Helen’s Hellish Chilli have you covered. There are also plenty of exotic treats to tuck into (Moroccan or Salvadorian anyone?), kids activities, live music and all the usual fresh food suspects. They even have the Organic Dog’s Dinner Stall for the health conscious pooch.
