We love a good glow up. So it’s only fitting we’re pretty keen to hear about one of Subi’s most-loved small bars’ recent facelift and expansion. That’s right, Bark, the WA-themed spot known for serving a mean cheesy jaffle and top local brews, has shed it’s small bar status—with an expanded seating area, full kitchen and coffee window now in action.
Originally opened in 2018, the cosy bar won a special spot in locals’ hearts for its unbeatable neighbourhood vibes, complete with board games, comfy lounges and staff that made you feel right at home. And while the venue is bigger and better, owners Mitch Jenkin, Lee Hutchings and Oliver Wasse have made sure it still feels much like the old joint punters know and love.
So what’s changed? Well, they’ve taken over the vacant site next door to allow room for a full-scale kitchen and more seating space which is pretty exciting as it means they’ll now be offering up a lunch and dinner menu. Yep, no more having to bring in your own takeaway food.
Packed full of comforting crowd favourites, Chef Chelsea Hanel has ensured each dish on the new menu not only tastes delicious but stays true to the venue’s local-first philosophy—heroing local ingredients, farmers and producers.
And boy, is there plenty of good stuff to get excited about. Lunch-goers will be frothing the conti rolls, chicken schnitty sandwiches and the mouth-watering Big Bark Cheeseburger—which features a delish homemade beef pattie, sitting pretty on a soft potato bun.
As for dinner, you’ve got loads of scrumptious share plates to work through including beer battered pickles, Neapolitana meatballs with polenta, and chicken terrine. All of which pair perfectly with the WA-centric drinks menu.
And if you don’t have time to sit down, you can always swing by for a coffee and bite to go from their snazzy new coffee window on your way to work.
The revamped Bark is now open at 502 Hay Street in Subiaco.
