Margaret River cafe and coffee

Whether you're getting up early for a beach walk or surf or rolling out of bed late after a few too many cab savs, Margaret River has some cracking cafes that will deliver the caffeine and eats you need to get moving.

And because we know that a trip down to Margs often means days out exploring, we've included a few of our faves from surrounding destinations in the Margaret River region.

Here are the best coffee shops and cafes in Margaret River and surrounding areas within the region.

Best Cafes In Margaret River:

West Coffee

Blink and you might miss West Coffee, a slick little hole-in-the-wall espresso bar in Margaret River town. But for coffee lovers, it’s well worth seeking out. This is the only place you’ll find their signature blends pulled fresh behind the counter. The focus here is squarely on quality coffee done right, so grab some espresso and perch up front for a quick caffeine fix, or stock up on beans for later. It’s small, it’s simple, and it’s one of most loved espressos in the region.

Yahava KoffeeWorks

2 Andrews Way, Margaret River

This specialty roaster on Andrews Way has built a reputation for brewing beans with serious personality, whether you like your cup aeropressed, cold-brewed or served up classic. Beyond the caffeine hit, Yahava is also known for its giant toasted sangas, the kind you need two hands to handle. It’s a busy, buzzy spot that doubles as a roastery and a café, so grab a bag of beans on your way out and keep the good stuff flowing at home.

Ilma Beach House

15 Farm Break Lane, Naturaliste

Ilma Beach House is Margaret River’s latest trendy café offering brunch with a beach view. With crisp white umbrellas lining the terrace and marble-detailed interiors that feel fresh and modern, this breezy spot blends seamlessly into the turquoise coastline backdrop. On the menu? Elevated brekkie options that puts local produce centre stage.  Think Shark Bay crab benedict with nduja hollandaise, a seriously stacked grand breakfast with Margaret River farmhouse sausage and confit potato hashbrown, or a veggie-friendly plate piled with portobello mushrooms, grilled zucchini and house-baked sourdough. Pricey? Yes, but you’ll walk away with all the warm fuzzies knowing your money’s gone to local producers.

The Seagarden Cafe

9 Mitchell Drive, Prevelley

Sitting right above Prevelley’s main surf break, The Sea Garden Café offers a front row gallery to watch locals shred waves while you dig into brekkie. This no-frills spot serves up hearty plates like Margaret River free-range eggs on toast or a crunchy ‘Sea Garden Granola’ that tastes even better with salt spray spritzing through the air.  Weekends bring live music and plenty of good vibes, making it a natural gathering point for surfers and sun-seekers alike. Grab a table outside, sip your coffee and settle in for a long, lazy morning with a view.

Cape Lavender Teahouse

2 Canal Rocks Road, Yallingup

Yes, it’s a little out of Margaret River, but trust me, Cape Lavender Teahouse is worth the detour. This cozy cottage-core teahouse looks like something out of a storybook, with purple hues running from the interiors straight onto the menu. Here, everything gets the lavender treatment, from their signature ice cream to scones served with lavender jam and paired with piping hot tea. High tea is the move if you want the full spread, but honestly, just dropping in for ice cream in their dreamy garden is enough to tick this one off your must-eat bucket list.

Gathered Organics

401 Wallcliffe Road, Margaret River

Image credit: Gathered Organics | Instagram

Four minutes from town,  Gathered Organics is a café, farm shop and community hub in one. Found on Footsteps Organic Farm, it’s got a laidback, family-friendly atmosphere, with verandah seating that overlooks the beautiful vines, plus space for kids, dogs and caravans to roam. The café cooks up wholesome breakfasts and lunches made entirely from scratch, using produce straight from the farm and other local suppliers. Expect things like organic granola, farm-fresh egg dishes and strong coffee brewed with locally roasted beans. If you end up lingering, there are goats to visit, children’s art sessions, market gardens and wine tastings to explore, and even farm tours and long-table dinners happening throughout the year.

Lunch Shack

4 Auger Way, Margaret River

The Lunch Shack, thanks to a menu stacked with hearty, old-school classics done exceptionally well, has become a Margs staple. Run by a trio of locals (Liz, Miki and Arlo), the vibe is cheerful and retro with a sunny deck out front perfect for tucking into treats. The food flavours pack a punch—flaky homemade sausage rolls, slow-cooked roast beef rolls drowning in gravy, and crispy breakfast burgers that’ll have you waddling out the door. The roast beef rolls tend to sell out early, so despite this venue’s name make sure you plan out your midday meal a little earlier.

Prevelley General Store

99 Mitchell Drive, Prevelley

Image credit: Prevelley General Store | Instagram

Half general store, half neighbourhood bakery, this spot has that cozy coastal feel and is stocked with all sorts of goodies. But it’s the baked tarts that people can’t stop raving about. With insanely creamy fillings yet crisp on the edges, they’re the kind of treat you’ll want to stash a few of for later (but no promises they’ll last on the trek back home!). The vibe at Prevelley General Store is relaxed and beachy, with shelves stacked with knickknacks and daily essentials alongside the counter of golden pastries. If you’re after something lighter, don’t skip their peanut butter granola, because it’s a cult fave with the locals.

Egberts Bakery

2/124 Bussell Higway, Margaret River

Watch in awe as the bakers at Egberts cut and roll out one perfectly-shaped croissant after the other. The exposed kitchen is just one of many cool features at this quirky bakery tucked up a Margaret River side street—think pink walls adorned with croissant-carrying storks, earthy tones and leafy greens everywhere you look. The friendly baristas will take care of your coffee order while you decide on something delish from the cabinet full of freshly-made wraps, rolls and pastries.

White Elephant Cafe

1 Gnarabup Road, Gnarabup WA

No trip to Margaret River is complete without brunch at White Elephant Cafe. Looking out across beautiful Gnarabup Beach, this much-loved cafe serves up heavenly coffees made with Dimattina beans, a range of mouth watering brekkie burgers and wraps, tasty fish and chips and everything in between. Enjoy your feed at a table on the deck or take it down to the beach and follow it with a swim.

Drift Cafe

1/72 Willmott Ave, Margaret River

Fresh healthy food. Tick. Cozy nooks and crannies. Tick. Off the beaten track. Tick. Good coffee. Tick. Tick. Tick. Any cafe that makes their own almond milk clearly cares about what goes into their coffees. When the busy main street is packed, Drift is a perfect hideaway that often goes unnoticed by the tourist crowds. Pro tip: order a side of the house made potato rosti and prepare to have your socks knocked off.

Margaret River Bakery

89 Bussell Highway, Margaret River

Margaret River Bakery needs no introduction. An essential stop for any foodie visiting the region, this funky European-inspired bakery has been pumping out fresh pastries and finely sourced coffee for the people of Margs since the 1960s and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. Whether you’re grabbing a sweet treat for the road, meeting up with friends for brunch or looking for a spot to sip your coffee while reading the paper, the bakery has something for everyone.

Blue Ginger Fine Foods

Step into Blue Ginger Cafe on Station Road and you’ll be greeted with friendly smiles, a cabinet loaded with lovingly-made pastries and wraps and the smell of freshly-roasted coffee. Catering to vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan diets, the breakfast and lunch options here are equal parts hearty and healthy, and they’re best when washed down with a top-notch cup of coffee or a fresh juice or smoothie. Blue Ginger Cafe shares its space with a continental deli and grocer which is fully-stocked with a diverse range of oils, grains, teas, meats, cheeses, chocolates and more—it’s a foodie’s dream come true.

Sidekick

5/110 Bussell Highway, Margaret River

A favourite of locals and visitors alike, Sidekick is a staple on the Margies cafe radar. Prop up on an outside stool: perfect for people watching or when sipping with your canine companion in tow. Blankets are provided for when the temperature dips below the warming power of a long black.  Yogis keen for a chai bliss bomb, but still in need of a cheeky caffeinated hit, will be in seventh heaven with their dirty chai. A daily changing spread of snacks and light meals with plenty of gluten free options.

Riversmith

122 Bussell Highway, Margaret River

Image credit: Riversmith Cafe | Instagram

The lofty and open space means that Riversmith is filled with locals working at their home away from home…that is when the tables have space for a laptop and notebook. Weekends see this joint pretty full. The coffee is reliable and the adjoining gift shop is filled with a solid half hour of browsing.

Meelup Farmhouse

54 Sheens Road, Naturaliste

Image credit: Meelup Farmhouse | Instagram

If you’re heading down south, you won’t regret giving Meelup Farmhouse a spot on your food itinerary. The farmhouse-chic venue is probably the most Instagrammable brunch spot down south with a food menu that backs up the beautiful sites. Dress up in your Sunday best or take your sandy feet and furry friend out for a coffee on the porch. If you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll love The Farmhouse breakfast, otherwise Turkish poached eggs or the orange and poppy seed pancakes also hit the spot.

Alberta's Kitchen & Store

Unit 3/55 Queen Street, Busselton

We almost packed our bags and moved straight to Busselton when we heard about the opening of Alberta's. The cosy kitchen and store is run by a former head chef and head gardener from Noma (you know, that three-Michelin-starred Copenhagen joint that's often dubbed the world's best restaurant). But while the light and airy fit-out has loads of Scandi beauty, Alberta's is nothing like Noma. Instead you'll find a laidback brunch spot serving top coffee and seasonal dishes loaded with the freshest local produce.

Merchant And Maker

8/35 Dunn Bay Road, Dunsborough

Image credit: Merchant and Maker | Instagram

Friendly service, super coffee and a host of take home goodies mean that Merchant and Maker in Dunsborough is your one stop shop on your trip down south. Choose from all sorts of caffeine affiliated drinks and accessories from pour over, French press and Aeropress through to eco cups. Bonus points for solving the problem of ‘what’s for dinner?’ with one of their home cooked take home meals.

Silver Bullet Espresso

44 Bay View Crescent, Dunsborough

Image credit: Silver Bullet Espresso | Instagram

Good coffee and good company can only be bettered by good views. Dunsborough Bay is filled with golden sands, sun drenched skies and aquamarine waters. Grab a coffee from Silver Bullet’s vintage airstream van and you will be graced with a friendly chat with owner Sally. One of the most relaxing spots by the beach to bring your eco cup out to play.

Gourmet Food Merchant

4 Bottrill Street, Cowaramup

Image credit: Gourmet Food Merchant | Instagram

Prepare to enter for coffee and leave with coffee and cheese and jam and crackers and honey and a bunch of wildflowers, phew! Using local coffee from The Margaret River Roasting Co, the brews at Gourmet Food Merchant are always reliable and a treat for the tastebuds with milk from Bannister Downs. Sourcing some of the region’s most delectable gourmet creations, it would be a crime not to take something home for lunch alongside your latte.

Now go ahead and book lunch and dinner at Margaret River's best restaurants.
