10 Of Perth’s Best Cafes Near Playgrounds

By Claire Logan

If combining your morning coffee with a good helping of playtime, fresh air, and sunshine is the goal today, you've come to the right place. Perth has a neat collection of cool cafes near playgrounds that will keep the kids entertained and you thoroughly caffeinated.

While we could direct you to park kiosks or the closest cafe by distance, here we've taken a more considered route. Instead, we are listing off the nearest cafes with top-tier coffee and menus that'll make park hangs and outdoor time with the fam so much sweeter.

Here are the best cafes near playgrounds in Perth right now.

Parkside Coffee

Northbridge

This cute new coffee window facing Stuart Street Reserve tucked into the leafy streets of the city is ideal for those keen for a caffeine fix and a sweet treat with pastries, sandwiches and food from Miller and Baker as well as some other local rotating bakers. Come grab a bite, sit in the sunshine and let the kiddies run wild at the playground and park just steps away.

Donnie Taco

West Perth

Located on the outskirts of Kings Park, Donnie Taco is a cracking little spot for a pre or post-play bite. The coffee is good and there’ll be no complaints when the cheesy $3.50 kids tacos come out. There’s also a basketball court here to keep them entertained while you wait.

Knead Bread & Coffee

Scarborough

This family-run micro bakery is a local fave in Scarborough, and as soon as you step inside the welcoming space you’ll no doubt see why. Vegan cinny scrolls, insane focaccia, banging bagels and arguably the best sourdough around—the quality baked goods alone make Knead Bread & Coffee the ideal detour before heading to the Whale Playground at the northern end of the Scarborough Esplanade.

Cup & Co

Floreat

Nestled across from the lush parklands of Perry Lakes in Floreat, Cup & Co is the perfect spot to grab a coffee and a couple of babycinos before hitting the playground. If you're chasing something more substantial, the sweet and savoury waffle menu here is also an absolute winner for kids big and small.

Cup & Co

Coffee Thief

West Leederville

With its beaut brews and tasty little cabinet of treats, Coffee Thief in West Leedy is the ultimate pitstop before a playdate at the suburban playground across the road. The play facilities are fairly basic, but you’ll find plenty of families here most weekends so the vibe is great for social kids. Of course, you could always head the few minutes over to Lake Monger's nature play space and flying fox if you're after something a little more exciting.

Koorak Cafe

Kings Park

Mums and dads of Perth know that Stickybeaks in Kings Park used to do the best coffee next to the best enclosed playground, but they might have missed that it has finally re-opened and is now Koorak Cafe. The Ivey Watson playground was designed with kids under six in mind and it’s probably one of the best playgrounds in Perth for little kids, so both you and your tiny tot will be happy after a morning spent here.

Raisin’ Bakery

Shenton Park

Before heading to the leafy lake and play area at Shenton Park Playground, stop for coffee and pastries at Raisin’ Bakery. It’s got an incredibly imaginative and creative menu of both sweet and savoury delights to tuck into. We're talking streaky bacon and potato salad pastry rolls, salted caramel croissants, squid ink baguettes, edamame and red miso breads and actual LOAVES of pastries, just to name a few.

Chu Bakery

Highgate

If you’re planning a day out at Hyde Park’s lush playground and water play zone, Chu Bakery is a no brainer. Given the line that forms out the door daily though, you might wanna team up with another parent so one can watch the kids play while the other ducks out for coffee and doughnuts.

Miller & Baker

Highgate

Miller & Baker is another excellent Hyde Park coffee spot that is usually a little less hectic than Chu. It’s also got banging vegemite scrolls and cinny buns that’ll go down a treat with the kids if you manage to get there before they sell out.

Wild Bakery

South Fremantle

If you’re chasing something beachside, the playground down at South Beach is a great spot for families. Before you park up and let the kids run free, pull past Wild Bakery to stock up on coffee and baked goodies. Their almond croissants and pork and fennel sausage rolls are an absolute must-try.

If you'd prefer a pint while the kids play, scope out these awesome kid-friendly pubs in Perth.
