Swap Glass Slippers For Pointe Shoes At This Fresh Take On Cinderella
This year, WA Ballet is trading glass slippers for satin pointe shoes to give the world’s most famous fairytale a 1930s twist. Running from 21 November to 14 December at His Majesty’s Theatre, Cinderella will bring the magic of post-war glamour to the stage. Expect bright vintage costumes, live orchestral music and the kind of storytelling that mesmerises the entire spectrum of generations.
A Whimsical Take On A Classic
For those who lived and breathed the 1950 animated Cinderella, this isn’t your standard retelling. WA Ballet’s Cinderella exudes that 1930s atmosphere where the gowns are bolder, the humour sharper, and the choreography filled with character. Step-sisters, a fairy godmother with Hollywood flair, and a ballroom scene straight out of a technicolour dream make this version stand out from the classic Disney original.
The West Australian Philharmonic Orchestra brings the score to life, swelling beneath every leap and lift, while the choreography strikes a perfect balance between tradition and playfulness.
The Perfect Festive Night Out
His Majesty’s Theatre transforms into a sparkling ballroom, making it the ideal setting for a pre-Christmas outing. The show runs for just over two hours, including intermission and time for plenty of snacks, so arrive early for a glass of bubbles at the bar or book a dinner nearby to make a night of it.
When the curtain falls and Cinderella finally gets her happily-ever-after, you’ll walk away with a certain tingle that only live theatre can deliver.
