Where To Celebrate NYE In Perth This Year

By Emma Pegrum - 14 Dec 2017

Yep, it’s that time of year again—New Years Eve planning. That time when all your group chat notifications start going through the roof and you fear blowing a temporal vein trying to herd together six different friendship groups into one extravaganza of an evening that doesn’t disappoint.

We’re here to tell you: it doesn’t have to be this hard. While there’s heaps going on in Perth to ring in the New Year, we’ve wrangled everything we want to go to into one list for you to take the stress out of your party planning, so you can focus more on what to drink—champas or vodka?

Here's where to celebrate NYE in Perth this year. Share this baby straight to the group chat.

If You Want To Party

Freedom Time

Self-proclaiming to be the place you can see ‘all your friends at once’, Freedom Time NYE hosted by MOVE is set to be an absolute sound system spectacular. Say seeya’ later to 2017 while getting funky to house, disco, tropical and techno beats brought to you by DJ’s from all over the world at this pop up event in the Roe Street Car Park behind The Bird and Ezra Pound. Don your dancing shoes for this one, it’s going to be wild.

Bar Pop NYE Party

With 8 dance floors and 11 bars, we’re pretty sure you won’t be left disappointed by the Bar Pop NYE Party at Perth’s new summer-long pop-up festival, Ice Cream Factory. Featuring all the same perks we’ve come to love from this place including UberEATS delivered direct to the d-floor and a rooftop sun deck, there’ll also be some extra heat packed to ring in the new year, such as VIP packages—table service and 5 star bathrooms on NYE, anyone?

Embargo Bar

If you fancy yourself a stargazer, you might want to wave goodbye to 2017 from atop the Embargo Container Bar at Elizabeth Quay. Kicking off at 6pm, jump on board their NYE Party and enjoy food trucks, live acts, DJ’s and a good ol’ fashion countdown in the amazing surrounds of the Perth City lights and the Swan River!

Suited NYE Ball

The more sophisticated of party-goers might find themselves at the Suited NYE Ball, enjoying sultry jazz over a three-course meal from award winning Chef, Sean Marco, at the Crown Towers Ballroom. If you feel like loosening that black tie and kicking off your heels, you’ll be able to fire up the dance floor as local DJ’s throw down some RnB hits and all time party classics ’til 2am. Get some mates together and grab a 10 person table or two.

Ku De Ta Glitter Club

Anything called ‘Glitter Club’ goes straight on my ‘must attend’ list of festive events this summer. Count down the clock at Ku De Ta’s first NYE event with tickets that include a drink on arrival, canapés, entertainment and DJ’s all night long! There’s VIP Gold Booths available, and we hope by ‘gold’ they mean ‘covered in gold glitter’ because jeepers that’d be fun. KU Dining is also cooking up a feast beforehand, so grab the all inclusive ticket and glitter party yourself into a whole new year.

New Year’s Eve at The Dock

Watch the sun go down on 2017 from where the river meets the sea, at Perth’s first wharf pop-up bar, The Dock. With frozé and craft beers flowing from 3pm, you’ll be able to snap up a wood fired pizza, food truck eats and even cheeseboards (cheers), all while grooving along to live music and DJ’s ’til 1am.

Foreshore NYE

Did I hear ‘silent disco’? Dance your heart out on the Perth City Foreshore to local bands and DJ’s across two stages at Foreshore NYE. Think delicious food trucks, boutique cocktail bars and a long list of favourites from WA wineries and breweries, all on the banks of our beautiful Swan River. There’s VIP packages available, and we say again - exclusive bars and private toilets on NYE? Where do we sign?

The original Perth haunt for NYE, Origin is back again at Claremont Showgrounds with a pretty ha-uge lineup including Kaytranada, Schoolboy Q and Stormzy across three stages. You know the drill.

The Aviary

The wild things at The Aviary are doubling down on the New Year’s fun by hosting two huge events across NYE and NYD, transforming their iconic rooftop into an urban jungle. The NYE Party is set to feature fresh fruit cocktails at interactive drinks stations, street eats (curry dogs, anyone?) and roving entertainment, all to the beat of world-class DJ’s. We’ve got wind of there being Espresso Martini Pops on offer. Just saying.

Wolf Lane

If the words ‘enchanted punch’ and ‘bottomless popcorn’ excite you, you will want to chuck on a mask and hit up ‘Into The Woods’ NYE at Wolf Lane. With wonderful twists and turns amongst the laneway bar cum enchanted forest to be expected, head here for savoury nosh, bewitching cocktails and great beats all night.

Hotel Rottnest

Hotel Rottnest is putting you up again this year for the NYE Decades Party Vol. 2, with a few sneaky additions including a Silent Disco in the Thompson Bay Marquee. Think pop-up food stalls, speciality bars and a Sandstorm x Horses mashup to keep the people happy. Welcome yet another year and reminisce about the ‘good old days’ by dancing the night away to decades classic remixes.

If You Want To Treat Yo’ Self

Soak up the final sunset of 2017 at New Year’s Eve Splash at Odyssea by enjoying freshly shucked oysters, cold bubbly and summer cocktails, all while enjoying million dollar ocean views in true Perth style. There’ll be some delectable bites on offer, live music and DJ’s later in the evening, bringing you in to midnight fireworks sparking up 2018.

The Standard

Start your night with champagne at The Standard before digging into a three course meal featuring dishes like jersey milk and pecorino polenta, slow cooked beef rendang, Korean BBQ chicken and so much more. If you think eating is cheating on NYE (you'll regret that) then you can just stroll on in—no cover charge—for all of the drinks.

The State Buildings

Add a bit of class to your New Year’s Eve at the State Buildings, where the chef’s knives and sommelier’s palettes are being sharpened to deliver very special New Year’s Eve tasting menus. Begin the evening at Wildflower with canapés followed by a five course menu, or at Post with a two-course tasting menu. Dinner’s at 6pm so you can make the most of your sober palette before the onslaught begins. Dinner will also buy you a complimentary ticket to the Postal Hall NYE Party, which will see pop-up bars, delicious bites and live music, so you won't need to roll far after dinner to continue the countdown to midnight.

The Guildford Hotel

With special-sounding things like ‘Jambalaya Arancini’ and ‘Smoked Boudin & Dirty Rice’ on their list of eats for NYE, The Guildford Hotel is taking revellers to the French Quarter and voodoo corners of New Orleans for a night defined by smoked-eats, bourbon cocktails and entertaining surprises. With a 4-hour food & drinks package, DJ’s, and ‘Unlimited Mardi Gras Slushy Cocktails’ on the menu, come here if you think you can eat your bodyweight in cheeseburger spring rolls and still dance like crazy ’til the countdown.

Surely we don’t need to talk you into a six-course degustation dinner inspired by modern Spanish cuisine with all local ingredients and paired wines. The team at Ascua on King Street will be finishing off 2017 with this enormous dinner and we’re pretty sure it’ll finish you off too. Good luck dancing into next year after this one!

Brika is calling all Greeks and Non-Greeks to celebrate the New Year at their White Party, where you can try not to spill your delicious Greek eats all over your white get-up as you dance to live music and DJ’s and countdown to 2018.

If You Want To Catch Some Live Music

Sewing Room

If you’ve got silky-smooth moves (or even if you don’t) then you might like to ring in 2018 with Adam Hall & The Velvet Playboys at Perth’s newest live music venue, The Sewing Room. Let this multi-award winning outfit from right here in Perth entice you into a boogie as they present Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles and Michael Jackson classics as well as some originals!

Badlands Bar

After the success of their inaugural NYE celebration last year, Badlands Bar bring you ‘COVFEFE’, a New Year’s party featuring The Love Junkies, GUM, Nicholas Allbrook and BOAT SHOW (among others!). Say goodbye to the weird year-that-was with great live music across two stages, free popcorn and $5 exports!

Typically quirky and light hearted, jump on board the party boat at Rodney’s to enjoy NYE Beach Jamboree, ‘Sandtrax’. Rodney himself has hand caught some of his favourite musical fish, including rock n roll rascals The Floors, Dom Mariani’s psychedelic rock outfit The Majestic Kelp and masters of rhythm Shangara Jive. Complete with an Elvis Beach Party dress up theme and a balloon drop, be sure not to miss the boat on this one.

Get into the NYE state of mind at Mojos Bar's event by the same name. ‘NYE State of Mind’ at Mojos is sure to be a corker, featuring jazz-funk-hip-hop powerhouse POW! Negro, riff makers Southern River Band and personal favs, the hilariously fun-loving blues rock outfit, Old Blood. Get ready to boogie!

The Rosemount is putting on an enormous three-stage fiesta headlined by Holy Holy—yeah, that band who did that killer Like a Version of Beyonce’s ‘Hold Up’. This huge event will feature heaps of 2017’s best indie and and songwriter heroes including reggae act Crucial Rockers, Felicity Groom and young soul buzz-band Demon Days.

Here are more amazing things to do in Perth this summer.
