It doesn’t get much better than cocktails on the coast here in the west, so we’re welcoming the news of a brand new beachside bar this summer, but this one's bringing some serious flash and flair. Tigerfish is bringing a spicy new Southeast Asian concept to Perth’s shoreline, and we’re here for it.

The White Horse Tavern is your go-to for after-work pints, lazy Sunday sessions, and family dinners that actually feel relaxed. Inside the venue, there’s a sprawling main tavern, a sun-soaked alfresco area (yes, it’s pet-friendly), and an upstairs mezzanine with its own bar, perfect for birthdays and milestone hangs.

Farm-to-fork dining has landed in Forrestdale with the opening of The Good Paddock, a rustic yet refined family restaurant. Produce is grown on-site or sourced from local growers who share the same regenerative philosophy as the 11 Acre team. 

I’ve been smashing dumplings at My House Dumpling for *years* ever since I lived down the road, and yet, naively never realised the iconic back story of the delighfully warm and welcoming owner Judy Wu; a strong, determined female migrant who went from successful CEO in China to starting again from scratch without a single word of English in a completely unknown land.

If you grew up near City Beach, chances are you’ve heard of the original Bert’s—the iconic surf kiosk that was a local hangout from the ’50s to the early ’60s. Now, it's making a comeback, and ready to serve a whole new generation of sandy-footed surfers and locla grommets as it takes over the old Odyssea spot in late August.

But after dark it’s all pasta, share plates, and one extensive wine list. With nine perfectly-tempered fridges, it’s an oenophile's dream. And while Casa does a lot right, the pizza here is unmissable. Their deep-pan beauties arrive crispy, cheesy, and generously topped, making them a serious contender for Perth’s best.

Pink Taquito is the latest chapter of the Stories precinct, and the pretty-in-pink partner venue to the upstairs Ugly Baby. Bringing a fiery new take on modern Mexican, it is an electric space where tequila-based cocktails and ‘grammable moments are front and centre. 

We haven’t yet found a box that The Standard in Northbridge doesn’t tick. It’s a bar, with a rooftop and an incredible food and drink offering running the gauntlet from bar snacks to more substantial fare. There’s a gorgeous wine garden out the back and it’s the perfect venue for everything from casual Wednesday night drinks or a quiet dinner date, to a full-blown affair with all of your pals.

Fremantle's home for great brews and harbour views, Gage Roads is the type of venue that makes everyone feel welcome. Bringing their quality beers to a brand new brewpub, the outpost sits pretty on the edge of the Fremantle Harbour in the iconic Fremantle A Shed, offering incredible harbourside views.

Looking for incredible Italian and a stunner of a wine menu south of Perth? Look no further than Vin Populi, a  wine bar offering a thoughtful menu of specialty Italian dishes.

After two successful heritage transformations, Nokturnl—the hospo crew behind popular multi-venue precincts The Old Synagogue (Fremantle) and The Beaufort (Mount Lawley)—are set to do it all again; this time with a 1908 federation style Police Station on the corner of Labouchere Road and Mends Street in South Perth.

When Cottesloe fave, Canteen Pizza, closed up in March, we shed more than a few tears. Originally launched as a pop-up in 2017, the seaside pizzeria quickly became a staple thanks to its practically perfect woodfired pizzas, great drinks and cruisy atmosphere. Well, now, Canteen Pizza is finally back.

Apple Daily first burst onto the scene 11 years ago, with its contemporary hawker style share plates catapulting Print Hall’s dining mecca to the top of everyone’s must-book list.

If you’re a Leederville local, you will probably recall the devastation felt the day we discovered the beloved Tom’s Cafe right in the heart of Oxford Street was closing down towards the start of the pandemic. But thankfully since closing the OG, the legends have come back with a new and improved Tom’s in Highgate.

An absolute jewel of King Street, Perth bar Varnish on King has successfully transplanted an American Whiskey bar into Perth’s CBD. And they've been doing a damn good job of it for a whole decade now.

When your next burger craving rolls around, head to Varsity Burgers' newest opening in Whitfords Shopping Centre, Hillarys. This massive new American-style venue is the largest from the Perth burger legends, with enough space for a whopping 800 of you to settle in. 

Sitting pretty alongside the heritage buildings on Pakenham street, Republic of Fremantle is a modern distillery with moody interiors, delicious high-end nibbles and incredible drinks, which should be no surprise considering the effort that has gone into distilling the brand’s signature gin and vodka from grape to glass.

From humble beginnings in the Freo Markets, this long-standing Freo fave is now a permanent fixture in the newly developed FOMO Fremantle. For those in the know, Suku has been serving up the authentic flavours of Indonesia since 2019, so when the opportunity for bricks and mortar store was on the table, this twosome originally from Indonesia jumped at the chance. 

Freo’s West End now comes with a bit of extra spice, with the welcome addition of Frida Mexicana restaurant on Market Street. Brought to you from the brains behind the already super popular sister venue Sana and situated in the former Sandrinos site, Frida Mexican promises a fresh take on authentic Mexican cuisine right in the heart of Freo. 

This new retro-style chicken shop from the founder of Short Order is serving up the juiciest hot chicken tenders, beautiful burgs and a covetable chicken skin sandwich that is so time intensive to make, there's only a few available each day (but boy is it brilliant). 

Bring on spritzes in the sunshine! The crew behind beloved dumpling eatery Emily Taylor have opened a new Mediterranean-inspired bar and kitchen along Freo’s iconic cappuccino strip.

Hyde Perth Kitchen + Cocktails is the perfect warm-weather hangout, thanks largely to the immaculate rooftop vibes and banging pool. So we're pretty stoked to see it finally reopen its doors just as the weather is heating up.

Hospitality legends Chef Leigh Power (The Old Synagogue, The Beaufort, Ginger Boy and Sweetwater Rooftop Bar) and bar extraordinaire Benny Tua (Mechanic’s Institute, The Old Synagogue, Sweetwater Rooftop Bar and El Grotto) have joined forces on Subiaco's new modern Asian eatery, Shui.

Perth bar El Grotto is on to a winning combination, serving up Mexican street food and a serious selection of tequila down at Scarborough beach, along with a hefty dose of live music.

Housed inside Fremantle’s FOMO lies Yin Yang Wok & Soup Bar, an addition to the hub’s Asian-inspired Street Eats Alley. 

After a whirlwind pop-up and a lengthy reno, O Brother has cemented itself as one of the western burbs best small bars.

Owner John Parker (The Standard, The Royal, Fleur) has done it once again with this gorgeous multi-level bar and restaurant situated amongst the endless foodie joints in The West Deck precinct in Karrinyup.

Residents of Nedlands, Crawley and surrounding suburbs would already know about the mouth-watering meals from Miky’s Italian, but if not, listen up. Miky’s is a neighbourhood restaurant sitting on Broadway Street, serving us Northern Italian dishes that have a modern twist. There are plenty of pasta dishes on the menu to choose from, including Napoletana, carbonara, ragu or creamy mushroom. The seafood spaghetti is generously loaded with mussels, big juicy prawns and thick bites of fish, all tossed in a rich tomato sauce and perfected with a light squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of pepper. 

If you’re a fan of a good curry, you’ve no doubt heard of 2 Fat Indians. With three existing locations, they've been a favourite for refined Indian cuisine in Perth for years. So when we heard they’d opened up a slick new upstairs bar and eatery within the Doubletree in Northbridge, we couldn’t be more excited. 

After successfully introducing their epic burgers to the east coast, the legends at Hello Harry have finally opened a store in good ol’ WA. They’ve set up shop on Rokeby Road in Subiaco, conveniently close to the train station, and our tummies couldn’t be happier. Open for lunch and dinner daily, Hello Harry also pours icy cold craft beers to pair with your feed. 

Toast My Curry started off as a colourful food truck, introducing Perth to the world's first curry toasties. Luckily for us, they’ve now expanded to an equally as vibrant warehouse in East Vic Park, so there’s no need to wait until the next festival or market to satisfy your curry cravings. Inspired by the colours of Mumbai, the space is splashed in colours of pink and yellow, with murals, plush couches and a sea container turned kitchen. If the inviting space doesn’t put a smile on your face, the food certainly will. 

Perth just got a whole lot more fun, with the legends at Funlab (Holey Moley and Strike Bowling) bringing a giant new adult-friendly bar and playspace to Forrest Chase. The whole space is decked out to feel like 1970s America—think vintage gas station, barbershop and pawn shop vibes—with Strike on one side and B. Lucky & Sons on the other. 

Dough Boys is one of the northern ‘burbs go-to pizza spot, and for good reason too. They’re open every evening to hook you up with all your dough-related ‘kneads’, and the pizzas are mouth-wateringly good. We’re drooling at the thought of the Californication pizza: freshly baked dough topped with a tomato base, cheese, chicken, red onion, capsicum, sriracha and kewpie mayo. Did we mention they’ve also got Fatboi Brownies on the menu? As if we needed more convincing.

Nogi Lane is the love child of couple and longtime venue managers Callum Ellis and Tracey Ly. Both are Dianella locals and couldn’t look past the opportunity to bring something new and exciting to their own neighbourhood.

Palace Arcade Fremantle is much like their much-loved East Victoria Park and Northbridge locations: there’s delicious New York style pizzas bigger than your head, a fine-tuned drinks list overflowing with a rotating selection of crafty brews and boss-level cocktails, and all the retro arcade games you could ask for. But the Freo location is (dare we say) a level up on anything we’ve seen before.

Meet Albert’s Respite And Refreshments, the new-look small bar taking over old Cambridge Street fave, The Stanley. You’ll find the bar’s been given a complete refresh, with a clean new look and an extended sunny deck area for those arvo sessions. 

Lola’s Filipino Diner is the new chicken joint on the block, and we’re going to scream and shout about our excitement for it. You can finally visit these mouth-watering Filipino faves at the newly renovated East Victoria Park location, which was once home to the OG RoyAls store (don’t worry, the RoyAls guys own Lola’s too, so it ain’t going anywhere!). 

On a quiet street in suburban Fremantle is this quirky vegan spot, Cafe Freeariello by Bri. Owned and operated by husband and wife Fabrizio and Cristina, the food here is all vegan, mostly gluten free, and truly delicious. With sweeping views across the trees from the huge balcony, it’s easy to see why this cafe is such a lovely summer spot.

Cranking since 1993, Perth icon Fraser's Restaurant has been racking in the awards ever since. If you've yet had the pleasure of visiting this gem, you'll want to change that ASAP. 

Known for putting a convenient and modern twist on the traditional dim sum dining experience, the new BamBamBoo in Floreat is bound to be locals new lunchtime fave. Continuing what was started at their original restaurant at 140 William Street in Perth, these guys are serving up all kinds of juicy dumplings, succulent barbecue meats and other top-notch dim sum dishes all without the interruption of waiters and the clunking of dim sum carts.

Introducing Samuels on Mill, a new brasserie concept within the Parmelia Hilton that draws its name and inspiration from Samuel Kingsford—the man who built the iconic flour mill that defined Mill Street back in 1833. Led by Chef Chad Miskiewicz, the approachable yet refined menu features local-first dishes that heroe WA’s finest seasonal produce and native ingredients from across the state, from Baldivis tomatoes and Shark Bay scallops to Treeton Farm beef and Linley Valley pork. 

If you’re not already familiar with the mouth-watering delight that is Old Faithful Bar & BBQ in Perth, what have you been doing? It’s iconic dishes like their signature Brisket—which is brined for six to eight hours and then smoked for 14 hours using a house-made Texas-style rub—are the reason they’ve well and truly earned their rank as one of Perth’s most delicious American-style BBQs. 

This is going to be your new local pizza place. Right next door to the wonders of Skol and Drift Kitchen, Scarborough joint Il Locale is offering up freshly wood fired pizza. Choose a delicious item of doughy goodness off the menu: they’ve even separated it into Pizze Rosse (pizza with red sauce) and Pizze Bianche (pizza with cream sauce). Treat yourself to the Quattro Formaggi pizza, filled with juicy gorgonzola, mozzarella, ricotta and parmigiano. Also available to order on Uber Eats, what’s not to love about this spot? 

Right in the heart of beloved Freo is HomeRun Food—one of the coolest new spots serving up American-style burgers, fries, and fried chicken.

Tucked away in a bustling suburban strip in Nedlands, just 10-15 minutes out of the city, you’ll find The Hampden Hotel—an unpretentious, contemporary neighbourhood pub on a mission to bring back the local. And trust us, after one visit you’ll wish this was your local. Think of a beautifully renovated old building with natural light, high ceilings and lush greenery. Boasting a huge selection of delicious cocktails (for under $20 each, we might add) plus tasty, hearty eats, you can’t go wrong with this place.

Bonjour et bienvenue! Bistrot Cafe is one of the latest additions to the dining scene in beautiful Fremantle. Serving up European dishes that draw inspiration from modern Australian cuisine, we can’t get enough of this place. It’s the creme de la creme of homely cafe dining. 

Eloquently said throughout popular culture, “We want the FUNK!” Well, that rings true to this day—we do want the funk, and the funk is what we’re getting. That’s right, our absolute fave Funk Cider has opened its (second) doors to the world, so get pumped.

We’re probably not the only ones who have always wanted to visit New Orleans, and since 2020 it’s been feeling a little further away than usual. That’s about to change—Clarences has just reopened its doors as Clarences Company Store with a funky Creole twist on the iconic Mount Lawley small bar. 

Welcome to the gnoccheria! Gnocchi Gnocchi Boys in Scarborough is for everyone who loves to spoil themselves in the form of heavenly little dumplings, made with amore. They’re guaranteed to keep you coming back for more and make you feel like you’re on a sweet vacay in Italy.

Meet Vincent Wine, the chic new Parisian-inspired wine bar that has taken over the cool corner spot once home to Meat Candy on the edge of Northbridge. With its breezy street-facing courtyard, striking golden bar, and intimate interior dining hall, it’s the perfect spot for afternoon wines that stretch into late-night dinner dates. 

Nestled among other top eateries at The Mezz in Mount Hawthorn, Drasko’s Hot Chicken is the creation of Perth-raised journalist turned chef Drasko Jankovic who has long dreamt of bringing the traditional Nashville chicken experience to Perth—and boy were we glad to see that dream finally come to fruition.

Three Sisters ticks all the boxes when it comes to flavour-packed Vietnamese eats. Their original little tuckshop just off the main strip in Leederville is always overflowing with mid-week lunch goers for good reason—these sisters serve damn good food. And now, with the opening of their second shop, you'll find their tasty bites in Mount Lawley too.

Meet Emily Taylor, the 450-person bar and restaurant nestled inside Fremantle's beautiful Warders Hotel. Neighbouring the Freo Markets, the old warder’s cottages are iconic and it doesn’t get much better than throwing back a cocktail or two with some bao and dumplings in the huge leafy courtyard of Emily Taylor.

Taking up residence on Harrogate Street in West Leederville, Bad Love Burger Co is the first bricks and mortar burger shop by the legends behind the Smashburger BBQ pop-up. Regulars at Bayswater Bowls club, the pop-up has gained a cult-like following over the years, with the people of Perth desperate to get a burger fix whenever and wherever they popped up next—even if it meant lining up for hours. 

Setting up shop in the back courtyard of Drift Cafe, SKØL means “cheers” in Norse, so it should come as no surprise that it is Scandi inspired all the way, from the menu to the clean-cut minimalist decor and welcoming laid back vibes. 

A salty breeze, a big cup of coffee and a full plate of food. If you ask us, there’s really no better way to start the day. And it’s what keeps us coming back to The Kiosk in Floreat. 

If there’s one meal we’re always up for, it’s an American-style feast of smoked BBQ meats doused in delicious sauces. And lucky for us Perthians, we have all of that and more at our sticky fingertips at Old Faithful Bar & BBQ, in King Street. This place Perth’s first traditional American-style BBQ venue, with owner Rob Paolucci having lived in the states for ten years — so you know it’s going to be legit. 

Taking over the spot that used to be Halfords in the State Buildings, Pooles Temple is the underground jazz bar you need to check out this weekend. Dark and moody with a menu boasting all things French, you’ll want to sink into one of the velvet chairs and drink the night away with a martini or three. 

Perth’s first permanent floating event space, The Raft is brought to us by brother and sister team, Katie and Dan Chrystal, who wanted to bring something seriously different to Perth.

This is the second location for General Public Food Co and we couldn’t be more excited to see these sourdough legends bring their epic eats and community vibes to Inglewood. 

Angel’s House is a pretty little slice of France taking up residence in a heritage-listed 1880s-built home in Fremantle. The bistro is run by two French brothers, Anthony and Jeremy, who are passionate about sourcing locally grown produce to complement their seasonal menu full of tasteful discoveries.

Charcoal And Chai in Como caught our attention for all the right reasons. The menu features the most drool-worthy charcoal-grilled Persian street food dishes with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians (hello smoky marinated eggplant with lemon tahini and vegan feta), but wait, there’s more.

Rechabite Hall, one of the founding buildings along the William Street strip in Northbridge, was once a vibrant dance hall. It then sat dormant, gathering dust, until Marcus Canning, the founder of Fringe World, Rooftop Movies and The Bakery, got it back into tip-top shape in 2019. It's now home to four separate venues and we couldn't pick a favourite if we tried.
