Romulus
Shop 1/224 Carr Pl, Leederville WA 6007
The once-Sayers cafe on Oxford St has had a serious glow-up thanks to Roman-born Mirko Silvestri, the same maestro behind Mount Hawthorn’s beloved LupoLab. Now reborn as Romolus, this slick Italian wine bar delivers all the Mediterranean vibes your summer-loving heart could crave, with sexy small plates, house-made pastas, and a European-leaning wine list.
Kick things off with a glass of something red and meatballs stuffed with smoked mozzarella before moving on to plates of pasta, with silky textures and sauces that strike the perfect balance between comforting and refined. If you're a fan of blue cheese, the gorgonzola gnocchi will set your soul on fire.
INSIDER INTEL
- With moody lighting and slick service, it's a fab date night spot
- If you can't get to Italy this year, Romulus is a close second
Yalla Bala
9 Electric La, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: Yalla Bala | Instagram
After selling out at pop-ups across Perth, we've finally scored a permanent spot from legend Benjamin Kotkis and the Yalla Bala crew, and it's quickly become Perth's biggest lunch crush.
You'll find them pumping out Middle Eastern eats from a small takeaway window down Electric Lane, with iconic menu items like chicken shawarmas (IYKYK) and falafels wrapped up in the fluffiest pita bread you've ever tried. Plus, bowls piled high with super fresh ingredients and homemade everything, including Yalla Bala's famous hummus and pickles courtesy of Perth's pickling queen, The Epicurean Foodie.
You can also order and eat in Servo’s courtyard, and as someone who has done this many, many times, I can confirm a pita in one hand and a pint in the other is a near-perfect lunch scenario.
INSIDER INTEL
- Use your hands and prepare to get messy, these little pita pockets are saucy AF
- If you can handle the heat, order extra zhug: the spicy Yemeni green chili sauce will add an extra kick to your meal
Lima Cantina
130 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: Lima Cantina | Supplied
Turns out Perth's Peruvian hotspot is smack bang in the heart of Leederville. Run by Lima local Miguel Bellido and head chef Daniel Salcedo, this colourful cantina dishes out fresh ceviches that taste like a beach holiday in a bowl and pisco sours so good you might just start speaking Spanish.
The menu reads like a love letter to Peru’s best hits: flaky, handmade empanadas that’ll vanish before you blink, crispy chicharrón, croquettes and larger Peruvian plates made for sharing. Before the meal is over, I make sure to order the tres leches con pisco, a luscious three-milk sponge soaked in pisco syrup and dulce de leche, crowned with a cloud of cream.
INSIDER INTEL
- The pisco sours here are a must-try
- They're also open for desayuno (or breakfast, if you're Spanish isn't up to scratch)
Daph's
1/226 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
Small but mighty, Daph’s is a 20-seat Leederville gem where open-fire cooking takes centre stage. There’s no à la carte or choice in the matter, instead, you get an ever-evolving set menu built around chef-owner Pepe Dart’s passion for cooking over fire. He mans the open kitchen each night, grilling, smoking and plating up each dish over jarrah wood while diners watch on from their seats.
Two sittings kick off each night (5:45 pm and 8 pm) and you’ll want to be on time. The whole room dines together, which means the magic unfolds in perfect harmony. Book early, come hungry, and prepare to be seriously impressed.
INSIDER INTEL
- Arrive on the dot (or 10 minutes early), it’s a group experience and you don't want to be holding up the 19 other diners
- The Sunday roast, available only in winter, is amongst the very best in Perth
Powell's Fromagerie
12 Electric La, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: Powell's | Elle Borgward
A wine and cheese bar with a whole lotta heart, Powell’s welcomes its customers like old friends. Cosy, cool and comfortable, it's the passion project of owner Jas Powell, who named the venue after her late dad as a tribute to family, connection and legacy. “He was sad the family name wouldn’t carry on, so I decided to put it on the wall and keep it going forever,” she says.
From the thoughtful interiors (burgundy ceilings, conversation-starter coasters and dozens of disco balls) to the ever-changing wine list and cheese selection that hops from the UK to Austria and everywhere in between, each detail is carefully considered. But according to Jas, the house-made focaccia often steals the limelight. “We make it fresh daily—it’s always the first thing to fly out of the kitchen,” she says. “Oh, and obviously the cheese plates. If you’re coming to Powell’s and not eating cheese, then what are you even doing?!”
Add in Mumma Powell working the bar treating everyone like family and it’s clear why Powell’s has quickly become a local favourite for after-work drinks, date nights and catch-ups.
INSIDER INTEL
- On your first visit, start with the cheesemonger’s choice board for a surprise selection of cheeses with accompaniments and crackers
- Join Powell's book club for the literary chat, and stay for the wine and cheese-fuelled tangents
Tora
8 Electric La, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: Tora | Elle Borgward
There's only ten seats at the table at Tora. The tiny omakase restaurant opened in 2023 and fans of Japanese cuisine have been fighting for a booking ever since.
The service is seamless, flowing effortlessly alongside an ever-changing menu that celebrates 'shun'—the Japanese philosophy of enjoying ingredients at their absolute peak. Each course is a carefully crafted masterpiece, from delicate sashimi to premium beef katsu, delivering a dining experience that feels both intimate and extraordinary.
INSIDER INTEL
- With such limited seating, bookings aren't optional here—they're essential for securing a spot
- The food is prepared right in front of you, so keep an eye out for those phenomenal knife skills and don't be afraid to chat to the chef
Bunn Mee
112 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: Bunn Mee | Instagram
Okay, okay, technically Bunn Mee is more lunch bar than full-on restaurant, but trust me, this spot deserves a shoutout. Swing by for insanely delish banh mi and other Vietnamese goodies, all cooked up by the supremely talented Jenny Lam (yes, that’s Masterchef alumni Jenny Lam) and her talented team.
It’s my go-to when I want an affordable, flavour-packed lunch that hits all the right notes without breaking the bank. I’m obsessed with the grilled chicken noodle bowl (bún gà nướng), and have no shame in stacking my lunch with a duo of lace spring rolls.
INSIDER INTEL
- Don’t be tardy! You’ve only got a short window to grab some grub, with Bunn Mee opening at 10.30 am and closing at 2.15 pm
- It gets pretty hectic at lunch so do your future self a favour and pre-order, with both pick-up and delivery options available
Phat Lon
106 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: Phat Lon | Instagram
If you do crave Bunn Mee-style flavours after dark, you can always head to Phat Lon. Brought to us by the same crew, this lively little spot just a few doors up is serving up Vietnamese plates and creative cocktails in a colourful dining room on Oxford Street.
Urban List contributor Rebecca Keating recently went here on a long-overdue girls' catch-up and got a thumbs up from the whole group. “Every single dish we ate was packed with flavour and there was so much to choose from, including vegan options which was a massive tick for our group,” shares Keating.
Stand-outs on the menu are the grilled eggplant doused in a sweet, dark soy sauce; tender shaking beef sprinkled with pepper and lime; and of course, the crunchy, lace spring rolls filled with prawn and crab. I reckon you’ll be surprised in the best way possible when your bill arrives, too.
INSIDER INTEL
- They're now open for lunch seven days a week
- Don't miss the beef wrapped in betel leaf
Pappagallo
250 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
You can find pizza perfection at Pappagallo, Leedy's homely Italian joint slinging some of Perth's best slices. With key ingredients flown in straight from Italy, the real showstopper on the menu is their Roman-style pizzas—thin, crisp, and lighter than their Neapolitan cousins—earning them a reputation as some of the best in town.
The house-made pasta deserves a shoutout, too, especially the hearty pappardelle ragu. Honourable mention must also go to the chilli mussels, and don’t skip dessert—the tiramisu is on par with what you'd find in Italy, if not better.
INSIDER INTEL
- Lunch service welcomes BYO with a $10 corkage
- The menu is covers a lot of ground so you know there'lll be something for everyone
Will St
228 Carr Pl, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: Will St | Supplied
Will Meyrick, the chef-owner behind super popular Balinese establishments Sarong and Mama San (to name just a couple), has brought a taste of Bali to town, opening his very own place right here in Leederville.
You'd be a fool to think this was a tourist-trap knockoff, though. Every dish bursts with the rich, bold flavours Will has gathered from his globe-trotting adventures. Think slow-cooked meats that fall apart with a touch of spice, punchy salads bursting with fresh herbs, and curries so good you’ll be dreaming of them long after you’ve left.
Whether you’re a seasoned traveller to South-East and East Asia or just discovering the cuisines, Will St makes it easy to eat like a local. Only now, you don’t need a plane ticket.
INSIDER INTEL
- The char sui pork hock is legendary and large. Go with a group and add it to your order
- Perfect spot to celebrate a milestone moment
Servo
9 Electric La, Leederville WA 6007
Servo is the beautiful all-day restaurant and courtyard bar within the Leederville Precinct, boasting a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-hybrid menu (cleverly dubbed Medi-Eastern, props to the marketing team) by executive chef Christopher Bottega.
First, fill your table with mezze: oysters, dips, cured meats and more. Next, move on to the larger share plates such as the baharat lamb shoulder with zhoug, labneh and pomegranate. According to venue manager Pete Callow, the lamb is the one that always disappears first. “It’s a great showcase of how we want people to experience the restaurant—tearing, sharing, mopping things up with wood-fired bread. That plate always comes back clean.”
When the meal wraps, the night doesn’t have to. “We love seeing people drift out to the yard bar after dinner to enjoy the music, the atmosphere, and a few more cocktails,” says Pete.
INSIDER INTEL
- Keep an eye out for the next Oyster Club: Unlimited, the decadent Sunday session with 120 minutes of all-you-can-eat oysters and free-flowing cocktail
- Servo's famous bottomless brunches are anything but basic, with Turkish fruit salad, loaded hash browns, your choice of main and all the cocktails you can muster before midday
- Be sure to order the wood-fired bread with za'atar
Naber
146 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
You get two-for-one at Leedy’s neighbourhood bar Naber. Out front, an intimate little dining room perfect for date night; out back, a breezy alley‑courtyard bar pumping disco beats and slinging fun, wallet‑friendly cocktails.
Start the night in the Oxford Street-facing bar with a few of the tapas-style share plates and a stone-baked pizza (I can vouch for the parma pizza with prosciutto, parm and basil—delish). Now that you’re prepped to party, follow the funk out to the courtyard for a boogie and a cocktail on the astroturf under the disco ball.
INSIDER INTEL
- Keep an eye on Naber’s Instagram for live music nights and surprise DJ sets that take the party up a notch
- All of the cocktails (bar the humble Aperol Spritz) are $23 each
Vikka
147 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
The scent of charred dough wafting from the kitchen at Vikka pulls me in every time. Run by a Leederville local fam with serious hospitality cred, this soulful pizzeria has been fuelling Leedy locals with Neapolitan-style pizza and share plates since it opened in 2021. The dough is beautifully light and blistered, the toppings fresh and inventive, and the staff treat you like you're an old friend.
Beyond the pizzas, the menu offers a handful of share plates and snacks that perfectly complement the main event. From house-made focaccia drizzled with local olive oil to cheesy garlic breadsticks, there’s always something to nibble on while you wait for your slice of heaven. And with a BYO policy and a dedicated vegan menu, Vikka effortlessly caters to all tastes and occasions, whether it’s a casual midweek dinner with the fam or a weekend catch-up with friends.
INSIDER INTEL
- The spicy, sweet Hot Honey pizza is the cult classic that everyone raves about
- Add on a serve of sugo to dip your crusts in
- A dedicated vegan menu offers loads of variety, making it a top spot for plant-based pizza lovers
Mon Japanese Bistro
Unit 14/663 Newcastle St, Leederville WA 6007
You might struggle to get a seat at this bustling little Japanese bistro, but Leedy locals know to show up early or risk joining the queue. Mon Japanese Bistro is compact, chaotic and always packed with regulars slurping, dipping and devouring their way through the menu.
You’ll find all the Japanese comfort classics here: crispy karaage, panko-crumbed katsu, sizzling beef yakiniku, and steaming bowls of curry and donburi. The sushi rolls and sashimi are super fresh, and the tempura udon is a rainy day hero. Add a glass of umeshu or warm sake and you’re halfway to Tokyo.
INSIDER INTEL
- It's BYO for wine only, so pick up a bottle from Grand Cru within the Leederville Precinct on your way in
- The bento boxes are my go-to for balanced lunch with a little bit of everything
Pinchos
112-124 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
For quick bites that pack a punch without emptying your wallet, Pinchos hits the mark every time. This buzzy Leederville gem brings a slice of Spain to the west with crowd-pleasing tapas, strong Euro-holiday energy and a menu built for grazing.
The pintxos (aka bite-sized tapas on bread) start cheap and cheerful, with combos like chorizo and goat's cheese or anchovy with roasted capsicum. Bigger tapas plates include jamón croquettes, garlic mushrooms, crispy squid and albondigas (Spanish meatballs), so you can dial it up depending on how hungry you are, or how many sangrias deep you are.
I like to sit out on the street when the sun is shining and always recommend going with a group so you can try as many plates as possible.
INSIDER INTEL
- Grab a carafe of sangria to sip while you snack
- There's plenty of menu items under the $5 if you're pinching pennies
- In summer, you can get a serve of authentic paella for just $12, cooked on the street in a huge paella pan
Kitsch
229 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
Long before Asian fusion was readily available all across Perth, there was Kitsch. Just a block down Oxford away from the main drag, this stellar stalwart is set around a huge frangipani tree adorned with dangling lanterns that make the open courtyard a dream in the summer, but the colourful
The food celebrates the vibrant, layered tastes of Asian street food—sweet, salty, crispy, spicy and sour—all in one. Think Cambodian-style grilled pork belly, drunken noodles, Cantonese steamed barramundi and plenty of hawker-style snacks perfect for sharing or devouring solo.
I've had many family dinners in Kitsch's colourful courtyard, sipping on cocktails and catching up over bowls of noodles. So much so, that I've learned to always order two serves of the Vietnamese popcorn chicken to avoid any sibling squabbles over who gets the last little morsel.
INSIDER INTEL
- The courtyard is dog-friendly, so bring your four-legged mate
- Perfect for date night thanks to a menu built for sharing (and impressing)
- Vegan? You’re well covered with heaps of tasty plant-based options
The Garden
742 Newcastle St, Leederville WA 6007
Image credit: The Garden | Instagram
A Leedy institution, The Garden's 2023 glow-up brought a fresh energy to its leafy dining room and a renewed focus on Italian-style dining.
Executive chef Christopher Bottega’s menu is inspired by the long Italian Sunday lunches of his youth that brought the family together around the table. The Franklin River roast porchetta comes with golden rosemary potatoes and a zingy fennel salad, while the seafood spaghetti marinara is piled high with Shark Bay crab, local fish and juicy tiger prawns. “They’re designed for sharing,” says venue manager Bradley Fraser. “Best enjoyed as a long and lazy weekend lunch, with some time blocked out in the afternoon for a nap.”
Step outside, the beer garden is permanently buzzing with locals enjoying pints, woodfired pizzas and pinot.
INSIDER INTEL
- The Garden's bottomless long lunches are a huge vibe
- Great for groups of mates, family dinners and date night
Duende
662 Newcastle St, Leederville WA 6007
Two decades later, Perth’s OG tapas bar Duende is still making magic in Leederville. Sitting on the corner of Newcastle Street and Carr Place, head chef Remya Geminaini keeps things tight and tasty with signature dishes like the crisp, paprika-spiked calamari. “It’s lightly coated in a mix of tapioca flour, cornflour, paprika, and a hint of garlic. This combination not only brings out its crispiness and balance but also allows us to cater to a variety of dietary needs without compromising on taste,” says Remya. “It’s one of those dishes guests just can’t leave without trying.”
The lamb skewers are another must-try. Served with mojo rojo—a sauce inspired by Remya’s time in the Canary Islands—it’s a delicious reminder that sometimes the best dishes are the simplest. “In a world where it’s easy to overcomplicate things, I wanted this dish to reflect heart, nostalgia, and authenticity.”
Intimate, warmly lit and slinging some of the best tapas in Perth, Duende is a Spanish hot spot with serious date-night energy and a wine list to match.
INSIDER INTEL
- There's plenty of gluten-free options on the menu for celiacs
- You can knock back half price sangria from midday 'til 4 pm every day
Fibber McGee's
711 Newcastle St, Leederville WA 6007
Opened in 1998, Fibber McGee's Irish Pub and Steakhouse has become a Leederville mainstay for good reason. Yes, the craic is always on point at this humble pub, but it's the food that sets it apart. Not only is 90% of their produce made in house—we're talking cultured butter, sauces, glazes, pickles, bread, sausages, and more—but they also own and operate their own certified organic farm in the Perth Hills where they raise their own cattle; and also dry age, butcher and cure their own meat inhouse.
I still dream about the famous steak & stout pie. Served with mushy peas and a quenelle of creamy mash and cabbage (or colcannon, as the Irish call the combo), the huge chunks of beef come swimming in a rich, malty gravy. It’s all hidden under a golden lid of flaky puff pastry and best when paired with a pint of Guinness. Now THAT’s the craic.
INSIDER INTEL
- Fibber McGee's St Paddy's Day celebrations are amongst the rowdiest in Perth
- Book ahead, especially on weekends; this place fills up faster than you think
Siena’s
115 Oxford St, Leederville WA 6007
Are you even from Perth if you haven’t had a chaotic family dinner at Siena’s?! This Leederville institution has been slinging classic Italian comfort food for over 25 years and, if we’re being completely honest, not a much has changed. But that’s exactly why we love it.
The menu is a carb-lover’s fantasy: creamy carbonara, towering lasagne, seafood marinara and woodfired pizza. If you’re as indecisive as I am, get the best of both worlds with the colossal chicken parm, served on a bed of saucy spaghetti. Portions are incredibly generous, prices are wallet-friendly, and kids are accommodated for with a dedicated menu for those under 12.
Don’t expect refined plates or faultless service. It’s loud, a little chaotic and absolutely full of heart.
INSIDER INTEL
- Siena's is a Leederville institution, serving hearty Italian fare in a family-friendly setting since 1993
- A dedicated playroom tucked away at the back means the little legends can run wild while you sip, chat, and demolish your pizza in peace
Once you've made your way through Leedy, check out the best restaurants in Mount Lawley.
