Fifteen years ago, spritzes were all but non-existent on this side of the equator. But what were once reserved for Venetians before dinner are now an any-time-of-day favourite across Perth. Now, for every pint of lager in a beer garden, you’ll find a glistening spritz right alongside it, but it’s not just neon-orange apéritif that us Perth locals are loving. Aperol opened the floodgates for an endless amount of spritz riffs: the limoncello spritz has been getting a fair bit of traction as of late, as has Aperol’s cooler cousin Campari spritz and the sweet-as-syrup Hugo Spritz.
To celebrate the fizzy, bittersweet sip (and the la dolce vita that comes with it), Subiaco will once again transform into a Euro-inspired playground with the return of Subi Spritz, a 10-day spritz-fuelled festival.
And while spritz is, of course, at the heart of the festival, there's plenty more, from incredible masterclasses to bespoke dining experiences. From March 14-23, ten venues will be hosting long table lunches, Europe wine tastings, one-off alfresco dining dinners and a whole lot more. Here’s our top picks for the festival, and may the almighty spritz continue its reign.
