Ludo And The Station
1 Mends St, South Perth WA 6151

When the Nokturnl crew (yep, the minds behind The Old Synagogue and The Beaufort) turn their attention to a heritage-listed police station, you know you’re in for something special. The Station brings their signature multi-venue magic to leafy South Perth, effortlessly blending old-world charm with modern-day indulgence.
Upstairs is The Station—a sprawling, design-led gastropub with a sunny courtyard and cosy corners galore. You’re literally drinking where officers once lived; original jail cells and even the wood stove from the 1908 kitchen still stand as part of the fit-out. Downstairs, you’ll find Ludo, a sultry subterranean French restaurant serving up candlelit vibes and nouveau European plates that are just as polished as the pianist serenading you nightly from Sunday to Thursday.
Don’t leave without trying their iconic Bombe Alaska—it’s rich, boozy and downright addictive with layers of sticky date, butterscotch, and spiced rum. And to drink? The Station Spritz is the house favourite—a ruby-hued blend of prosecco, rhubarb and cherry that hits just right no matter the season.
As Nokturnl’s Marketing and Brand Manager Katie Rebekah Osborne puts it, “Whether you're joining us for a drink, a long lunch, or a night to remember, The Station invites you to slow down, savour the moment, and soak in the atmosphere—past and present, perfectly combined.”
Nextdoor
79 Angelo St, South Perth WA 6151
A proud extension of Olsen Butchers—yep, literally next door—this neighbourhood spot in South Perth is turning heads with its elevated butcher-to-plate approach and effortless charm. Under the glow of exposed bulbs and industrial touches, you’ll find a warm, lively space where high-end steaks meet playful snacks and a drinks list worth the detour.
Nextdoor may have stepped away from its fine dining origins, but don’t mistake that for basic. It’s still all about provenance, precision and atmosphere, just with a more relaxed, everyday edge. Venue Manager Laurie Eaton puts it best: “Nextdoor is more than just a neighbourhood bar & restaurant—it’s a proud extension of Olsen Butchers... offering a rare connection that guests can truly appreciate.”
Carnivores, don’t even think about leaving without trying the 750g Cape Grim ribeye—cooked over jarrah hardwood for that perfect smoky crust. Pair it with the signature Blood & Bone cocktail—wagyu-washed scotch, burnt bone distillate, and blood plum served with a regenerative tartlet. Trust us, it’s a wild ride.
My friend and PR Queen Georgia Feathery said she loved visiting this restaurant with her group of girlfriends on a weekend. “The vibe was high, the food was on point and the cocktails were delicious. The industrial charm reflects and embraces the neighbourhood of South Perth.” Couldn’t agree more.
Rambla on Swan
39/85 S Perth Esplanade, South Perth WA 6151
Rambla on Swan is the place to go for a classic cocktail and an epic grazing board, filled with either charcuterie meats and olives, fresh seafood, an assortment of cheeses or a veggie selection with dips and grilled bread. Grab a table on the deck, under one of the beachy white and blue striped umbrellas, and watch the sun reflect on the city skyline and dazzling river.
For something a bit more substantial, order from the selection of meat or seafood delights, such as the prawn and scallop spaghetti, crispy fish tacos, Margaret River wagyu rump or Italian sausage pizza. These guys had a makeover in 2020, so if you haven't popped by for a good while, it’s worth booking in to suss the new and improved space.
Miss Chow's
39 Mends St, South Perth WA 6151
Image credit: Miss Chow's | Instagram
Sitting pretty on the South Perth foreshore, Miss Chow’s is all about those dreamy river views, punchy modern Chinese eats and a seriously stylish setting. Light-filled and effortlessly refined, it’s the kind of place where you’ll want to settle in for an afternoon dumpling feast or cocktails with skyline views.
Miss Chow’s brings a contemporary edge to traditional cooking, focusing on premium local produce and authentic techniques passed down through generations. The menu delivers on all fronts—whether you’re into spicy, crispy, steamed or slurpy. Think yellowtail ceviche with pickled chilli, sticky sambal prawns, truffle mayo-laced beef cheek dumplings, or that bangin’ fried chicken with chilli mayo.
Dumpling lovers are spoilt for choice—there’s an entire lineup of signature parcels including the pan-fried favourites, lobster and wattle seed siu mai, and charcoal har gow with prawns and scallops. And if you’re feeling luxe? Go for the miso-glazed Glacier 51 toothfish or the Rottnest crayfish noodle soup.
It’s bold, elegant and full of heart—exactly what you’d expect from one of Perth’s most beloved modern Asian kitchens.
Solo Pizza
5/135A Coode St, South Perth WA 6151
If you haven’t discovered Solo Pizza yet, prepare to fall hard. What started as a humble Italian takeaway tucked into the South Perth-Como border has become a local go-to, loved for its warm, family-friendly vibes and honest, traditional pizzas that taste straight out of Napoli.
The dough here is the real deal—made fresh in-house daily, rested for 24 to 48 hours, then cooked to perfection on an imported all-stone Moretti Forni oven straight from Italy. The result? A light, thin and crispy base that’s easy to devour and even easier to justify ordering another round. With over 30 flavour combos on the menu, there’s something for every pizza mood, whether you’re team classic Margherita (It’s me, with a generous dousing of olives added for good measure) or down for something a little more adventurous.
And don’t skip dessert—everything is handmade, from the creamy panna cotta and tiramisu to their latest obsession-worthy soft serve, made in-house using a Carpigiani machine and their own signature light recipe.

The Windsor Hotel
112 Mill Point Rd, South Perth WA 6151
Image credit: The Windsor | Instagram
A South Perth institution, The Windsor is one of those rare gems that locals love, visitors stumble upon, and everyone leaves planning their next visit. It’s got everything you want from a classic pub—great beer, solid food, relaxed vibes—but also manages to dial things up with surprising finesse.
If it’s pub classics you’re chasing, Mends Street Bar has a menu stacked with crowd-pleasers—think woodfired pizzas, a killer steak sanga, and ice-cold Ogden’s beers brewed just metres away. It's casual, lively and exactly where you want to be on a sunny afternoon.
The Charthouse Restaurant is also well worth checking out. The European-style alfresco is one of my favourite spots to sit back and unwind over a long lunch or dinner with friends. On Tuesdays, they roll out a Sri Lankan curry that changes weekly—I've had the prawn version and can confirm it was absolutely delicious. Come Sunday, it’s all about their traditional English roast with unlimited gravy and duck fat potatoes, which is every bit as indulgent as it sounds.
Ciao Italia
273 Mill Point Rd, South Perth WA 6151
Image credit: Ciao Italia | Elle Borgward
You don’t just eat at Ciao Italia—you experience it. Since opening in 1999, this South Perth gem has built a cult following for its no-fuss, home-style Italian fare, served up in one of the most joyfully chaotic dining rooms in town. Think checkered tablecloths, Italian ballads blaring, waiters calling orders across the room, and the unmistakable aroma of garlic and tomato wafting from the kitchen.
Originally a tiny 20-seater takeaway joint, word spread fast thanks to their impossibly good pastas and woodfired pizzas. These days, the restaurant seats 90 and still packs out every night—so expect a wait (or better yet, grab takeaway and enjoy a cosy night in).
The menu is a greatest hits of Italian comfort food. We’re talking chilli mussels, saucy chicken parmigiana, and every pasta shape under the sun—rigatoni, ravioli, gnocchi, tortellini, you name it. The creamy pastas in particular are the stuff of legend.
It’s loud, bustling, and full of soul—the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve been transported straight to a trattoria in Italia. If you haven’t been yet, just go. Eat. Thank us later.
The Boatshed Restaurant
1L Coode St, South Perth WA 6151
Few spots in Perth rival The Boatshed when it comes to waterfront dining. Perched right on the edge of the Swan River, this South Perth stunner delivers a front-row seat to the city skyline—best enjoyed as the sun dips behind the buildings and the lights begin to twinkle across the water.
Open from breakfast through to dinner, the menu moves with the day. Mornings kick off with all the favourites—fluffy pancakes, eggs benny, and house granola—while lunch and dinner step things up with delights like smoked beef carpaccio, lamb shanks on garlic mash, and a moreish seafood linguine.
For something special, don’t skip the cold seafood platter for two, stacked with oysters, Moreton Bay bugs, prawns, cured salmon and marinated octopus—perfect with a glass of crisp white and a sunset backdrop.
If you’re heading in on a weekend, there’s a set menu on Friday and Saturday evenings or Sunday lunch: two courses for $75 or three for $90. Date night sorted.
Mister Walker
80 S Perth Esplanade, South Perth WA 6151
Image credit: Mister Walker | Nancy Hanna
On the edge of Mends Street Jetty, Mister Walker is the kind of place you pop into for a casual drink and end up staying for hours. With sweeping views across the Swan River to the city skyline, it’s one of South Perth’s most iconic dining spots—equal parts breezy, polished and welcoming.
The all-day menu is built around fresh, seasonal produce and a love for local ingredients. Swing by on the weekend for brunch (the heirloom tomato and burrata or the house-fave waffles are always a good idea), or settle in for a long lunch with oysters, cocktails and a few grazing plates. Dinner is all about elevated comfort—think seared seafood, slow-cooked meats and steaks done just right.
With a sharp wine list, warm service, and uninterrupted views of the river and city, it’s got everything you need for a relaxed meal that still feels special. As the Mister Walker team puts it, they’re “about fun, friends and great times”—and they deliver on all fronts.
Gogo’s
35 Mends St, South Perth WA 6151
By day it’s a charming café slinging global street eats, but when the sun sets, Gogo’s transforms into something truly special—a refined Indian dining experience led by internationally acclaimed chef and owner Govindha “Gogo” Govardhan.
Having cut his teeth in legendary kitchens like Bukhara and Dumpukht, Chef Gogo brings a five-star flair to every plate. His South Perth restaurant is a celebration of spice and local produce, blending Indian culinary tradition with the best Western Australia has to offer. From Amelia Park lamb and King George whiting to Linley Valley pork and wild WA goat, every ingredient is chosen with purpose—and it shows.
The dinner menu reads like a love letter to regional Indian flavours, with a modern twist. Think tandoori chicken skewers, Goan masala prawns, smoky lamb chops and the silky chicken makhanwala, all elegantly plated and bursting with complexity. Vegetarian options shine too—don’t skip the Punjabi saag paneer or the cheesy eggplant Kashmiri gratin.
As Chef Gogo says, “Every spice carries a note. The way you combine the spices creates the music.” With famous fans like Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan and the Beach Boys, we’d say he’s composing hits.
Dirty Habit
68 Angelo St, South Perth WA 6151
Globally inspired comfort food is the name of the game at Dirty Habit. Whether you're rolling in for a lazy brunch, casual lunch or a few of their cheeky cocktails, this well-loved local always hits the spot.
The all-day menu moves from loaded toasties and hash brown-stacked omelettes in the morning, to hearty burgers, risottos, grilled meats and pastas come lunch and dinner. It’s the kind of food that satisfies on every level—unpretentious, flavour-packed and beautifully plated.
And the drinks? Equally strong. Dirty Habit’s cocktails are as good-looking as they are delicious, with plenty of care put into every pour—ideal for those post-work catchups or low-key weekend celebrations.
The vibe is polished but welcoming, with the team on a mission to make every visit feel like you’ve come home. “Our goal was to create a local favourite. A place where the neighbourhood could gather, and a destination for those seeking something special.” Safe to say—they’ve nailed it.
Akiras
Shop 4/298, Millpoint Road, 2 Meadowvale Ave, South Perth WA 6151
Akiras is the kind of laidback neighbourhood locale that South Perth locals like to keep to themselves. Family-owned and proudly BYO, this cosy spot brings serious warmth—both in hospitality and flavour.
Chef and co-owner Rahul opened Akiras in 2020, naming the restaurant after his daughter and building it around his dream of sharing global flavours with the local community. “We’re a family-run business with a philosophy to cater to our community with a diverse, multi-cuisine menu,” he explains. “We call it global cuisine—because it brings together everything we love.”
The menu delivers just that, moving effortlessly between Indian curries, Australian steaks, Spanish paella, pastas, pizzas and more. Signature dishes include the rich, slow-cooked goat curry, the seafood trio, crab linguine and tender lamb rack—all full of soul and spice.
Just bring a bottle of your favourite vino, settle in, and get set for a great night out.
