By – who is always dreaming of her next meal and reckons a good martini solves most problems

With its dazzling waterfront location, South Perth is a fave amongst Perth's cafe crew and thankfully there are plenty of great breakfasts and coffee to be found after your riverside walk.

From incredible patisseries to sustainable cafes, we've rounded up some of the best cafes in South Perth, as well as a few extras nearby in Como in Kensington.

Angelo Street Market

South Perth

A hotspot for foodies from all over Perth, Angelo Street Market in South Perth really is the place to go for fresh local produce, gourmet grocery goodies and everything in between.

They've earned quite the reputation for their fresh conti rolls but you'll also find coffee and loads of wholesome pies, quiches and grab-and-go options for when you don’t feel like cooking. You can even take care of dessert by raiding their stock of macarons, house-made cakes, Fat Boi Brownies or North Street Store cinnamon scrolls.

Gusto Food

South Perth

No South Perth list is complete without this much-loved cafe. Their menu is full of goodies, but you can’t go past the house-made crumpets. You’ll be left licking your lips with pear and berries, peanut butter crumble and yoghurt.

Their doughnuts are also worth a mention, made fresh every morning. Try an old faithful cinnamon sugar or jam, but if you can handle it, tackle the lemon meringue, Nutella or cookies and cream flavoured doughnut, some filled with creamy custard.

Our Ruby Girl Cafe & Providore

Como

Our Ruby Girl is a great little Aussie cafe in Como with a cracking brunch menu and some seriously sustainable and ethical practices worth getting behind. The cafe has partnered with Bentley's community garden project and swaps its coffee waste and cardboard for excess local produce, and they grow all their own herbs in their kitchen garden.

They've even got a providore stocked with art and homewares from local designers, and, they're an equal opportunity employer, hiring people with disabilities.

The Acai Corner

South Perth

Stay true to your health kick and pop down to the Acai Corner food truck. Acai berries are said to be one of the most healing fruits on the planet (and possibly the most Insta-famous). Here they’re blended with coconut water, banana, berries and mango and topped with granola and an array of healthy extras—you could go for the Ferrero Rocher bowl, topped with cacao nibs and homemade healthy Nutella.

This food truck is right on the foreshore and on one of Perth’s most beautiful walks. Complete the 10 kilometre Swan River loop, then reward yourself with one of these bowls of goodness.

The Little Banksia

Kensington

Welcome to your new favourite brunch spot, The Little Banksia. This cute cafe has a menu full of all the brekky classics plus some unique treats like vanilla and elderflower yoghurt pannacotta. The buttermilk pancakes are simply stunning and will make the urge to ‘gram your meal hard to resist.

Trust us, it really doesn’t get much better than sitting in their garden, double parked with freshly squeezed juice and coffee and a big brekky in front of you.

Halo Espresso

South Perth

While this espresso bar can make a mean coffee, they also dish up delicious breakfast and lunch. Go for the strawberry cheesecake pancakes with berry sauce and cream cheese, or for something on the lighter side, the lupin bowl with smashed pumpkin, avo, brown rice and lupin fritters.

Millpoint Caffe Bookshop

South Perth

Get a side of culture with your coffee at Millpoint Caffe Bookshop. Once you’ve browsed the shelves for your next rave read (be sure to ask the Millpoint crew for suggestions), sit down and enjoy a delicious breakfast, lunch or treat.

The menu has all the usual suspects, including pancakes, waffles, a big brekkie, avo bruschetta and eggs benedict. We’ll take all our meals served with a side of books, thank you very much.

George Street Cafe & Patisserie

Kensington

You'll wanna leave any health kick mentality at the door when you step into George Street Cafe & Patisserie. The cabinet of freshly baked scrolls, tarts, croissants and crullers is far too good to ignore. They also serve up sit down brekky classics if you wanna grab a seat outside and take a minute to think about which sweets to take home.

Dolce And Salato

South Perth

We all know that Italians do carbs better, and that’s certainly the case at Dolce and Salato. Their endless range of tortes, tarts, freshly made rolls and pizza slices are enough to satisfy the hungriest of bellies, but we simply can’t go past that mouth-watering authentic Italian filling of their vanilla slice that makes each little square the perfect bite.

La Patisserie

South Perth

La Patisserie has gained cult status for their incredible desserts and melt-in-the-mouth pastries. The almond croissant is the perfect mix of buttery baked goodness, flaky pastry and the sweet filling you expect to make you feel better than a hug from Mum. Croissant in one hand, coffee in the other and a stroll along the South Perth foreshore. Bliss.
