What's On Thursday 11 December:

Atlas Pearls Trunk Show at Lawson Flats

I'm officially clutching my pearls with excitement, because one of the top global producers of the beautiful white and silver South Sea pearls is putting on a curated trunk show for the WA community this Thursday! Atlas Pearls are inviting guests to explore their latest jewellery collections and pearly pieces, all crafted with a unique sense of place and purpose. By booking an appointment from 11am to 7pm, you're able to drop into the Pool Room at Lawson Flats and have a proper poke around as you admire the literal pearls of the ocean, sustainably farmed and shaped by the sea. As Jackie Kennedy famously said, pearls are always appropriate.

After shopping, guests are also invited to  linger a little longer with a meal at Luis', a rare opportunity for non-members to book a table and experience dining at the club.

Cocktail Masterclass at Little Things Distillery

Everyone loves a good cocktail, but there's a difference between dumping whatever spirits and mixers you can find into a glass, and learning the art of mixology as you craft a proper cocktail. The first way definitely works, but the second is maybe a little more impressive when you're hosting your holiday season gathos. Luckily, Little Things in Subi is ready to treat you to a proper cocktail masterclass this Thursday, walking you through the historic craft of a Kakadu Espresso Martini, a Cheeky South, and a Seasonal Spritz, so you're equipped with an arsenal of delicious bevs to bring to any boozy catch ups on the agenda (and there may be a couple this December). A minimum of two guests is required for your booking at 4pm or 6pm, and it'll cost $75 (and you're also allowed to drink your cocktail creations).

This year, they've got a stacked line up of local legends ready to go, with Cooper Turnbull & zxch. going back to back for the first time, supported by Maddyx, Paris Garcia, Nollie and PHA2E. Fridays at Luis’ with Pat Little at Lawson Flats

Shake off another long week (we're on the home stretch now!) with a live DJ sesh at Lawson Flats, courtesy of Shari-Vari founder and eclectic record store owner Patrick Little. Fridays at Luis' are one of the rare chances for non-members to have a squiz inside the gorgeous spaces of Lawson Flats, and this one will see Pat taking over the decks with his expertly curated selection of music, from UK jazz and soul, to more underground beats. The music kicks off at 5pm and runs until 9pm, accompanied by the daily happy hour (from 5pm to 6pm) and Luis' Sip & Shuck, serving salty oysters and quality bubbles all night.

Alcohol Free Christmas Bar at Pique

Aussie culture can get a little overrun with alcohol-based events, especially during this time of the year, but there's plenty of fun to be had by the sober queens, too! Pique Coffee is shaking up silly season this Friday night with their alcohol-free SOBAR, serving creative mocktails and 0% beer and wine, alongside some delicious food. This is the event you can book into the Christmas calendar without the fear of a pounding headache or the hangxiety over a text you definitely should not have sent the night before. It's all about creating a fun alcohol-free space to facilitate great convos, serve great drinks, and protect your own mental health at a time that can get a little overwhelming. Plus, Pique is donating 10% of bar sales to Men's Talk, a charity supporting men's mental health, so it's all for a fab cause.

Carols at Scarborough Beach Amphitheatre

The Scarborough Beach Association is fully romanticising the holiday season this year, with Christmas carols, candles, and a stunning ocean backdrop creating a festive atmosphere that could charm The Grinch himself. In collaboration with their charity partner Neuromuscular WA and supported by the City of Stirling and Lotterywest, the Carols at Scarborough event is ready to hit the sand so everyone can come together and join the chorus, with performances from the Australian Army Band, Space2sing and Dance Etc in the Scarborough Amphitheatre from 6:30pm. Santa will be sleighing down from the North Pole for a cheeky visit, and the night will end with a magical fireworks display over the beach. All proceeds go towards supporting those living with neuromuscular conditions in WA, and what's more aligned with the Christmas spirit than that?

Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium

Australia's annual Big Bash cricket comp has come in hot and heavy this year with an exciting women's series that concludes this weekend, but fear not, the men are ready to grab the baton and keep the good times rolling as their own season kicks off straight after. Our own Perth Scorchers are set to take on the Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium this Sunday, with gates opening at 2:45pm for the first ball to fly at 4:15pm. The Big Bash League sees an adapted version of cricket where the games are quicker and the bashes are bigger, perfect for anyone who doesn't want to sit through hours of innings waiting for Steve Smith to make another impossible catch (as much as we love The Ashes, sometimes a T20 speed run is needed to spice things up). So grab your tickets and wear some orange to cheer on our Perth boys!

Santa Visit at The Claremont Hotel

Christmas hits different at The Claremont Hotel this year, with Santa himself swinging by on his festive route since everyone’s been so well behaved! He’s made space in his rather busy schedule for a little visit this Sunday, and word on the street is he’ll be dropping in between 2pm to 4pm. It’s the perfect opportunity for a family day out, because while the kids are distracted by a certain man in red, you can enjoy a lush little lunch (and perhaps even a cocktail or two) as you put pause on the Christmas chaos for a chilled Sunday arvo.

Artisan Christmas Markets in The Perth Hills

Forget mass-produced, this is where handmade reigns supreme. The Perth Hills Artisan Markets are a vibrant celebration of all things crafted, carved, stitched, painted and baked by local creatives who know their stuff. Held indoors at the Mundaring Arena (hello, all-weather shopping), it’s one of the biggest and brightest showcases of WA talent, with everything from moody ceramics and quirky prints to small-batch chutneys and next-level baked treats. You’ll wander past woodworkers, jewellers, potters and soap-makers, all slinging one-of-a-kind wares with a smile and a story, and they’ll be there from 9:30am to 3pm this Saturday and Sunday in a special two-day event.

West Australian Ballet Presents Cinderella at His Majesty’s Theatre

Dreams really do come true, because you're officially invited to the ball (glass slippers optional). The final weekend of the Cinderella Ballet at His Majesty's is approaching, and this is a whimsical fairytale performance everyone deserves to experience. They're telling the iconic rags to riches story through stunning dances and exquisite set design, complete with evil stepsisters, a charming prince, and a fairy godmother, the ingredients to every good fairytale.

Whether you're an experienced prima ballerina, or you don't even know what pointe shoes are (they wear them to stand on their toes, and somehow they look more graceful than me standing flat-footed), this story is a classic that you can't help but enjoy. There are showings available all weekend with tickets ranging from $30 to $179, depending on how close to the bibbity-bobbity action you want to be.
