8 Of The Best Cafes In Caloundra For Brunching

By Harrison Gillett

The only way to keep the dreaded Monday blues at bay is to ensure your week (and stomach) are filled with the best breakfasts around. So grab your friends, jump in the car and maybe take a bib, because this list is about to make you drool all the way to Caloundra.

From warehouse cafes to espresso bars, there’s something to suit everyone among our list of the best cafes in Caloundra in 2023.

The Pocket Espresso Bar

This local favourite overlooks Moffat Beach and provides some of the tastiest breakfasts in Caloundra. Fancy some crunchy corn and zucchini fritters with a fried egg, white bean hummus, spiced yoghurt, herb salad and tomato relish? Make sure to pencil The Pocket in for your next weekend breakfast.

The recently renovated space has laid-back vibes and stylish décor, and is the perfect backdrop for dining on a seasonal menu. Brekkie pies, breakfast cups, paninis and bowls, dine-in or take away, there’s something for everyone at The Pocket.

One Block Back

Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Moffat Beach, One Block Back serves up breakfast goodness in an industrial shed with plenty of character. The all-day breakfast menu has a mix of healthy staples and treat yourself options which you can enjoy while relaxing in the garden or sitting at the 100-year-old brick pillars.

From Nannas Waffles to the extravagant Breakfast Board, featuring a mini original acai bowl, smashed avocado on toast with feta and a mini fresh croissant with cultured butter. Add this to your hit list, if you’re on the hunt for the best cafes in Caloundra.

White Picket Fence

In the heart of Caloundra, White Picket Fence is one of our favourite cafes to hit the Sunshine Coast. After its transformation from nursery to cute eatery, they opened their doors and became an instant crowd favourite. Feast on The House Deposit; a dish of organic sourdough on a bed of beetroot hummus and topped with avocado, Persian feta, edamame, lemon and pomegranate, or grab a friend, take a seat in the sunlit patio and indulge in The Hungry Little Platterpillar, a selection of their best breakfast creations for two. Every angle of this place is photogenic, so don’t forget to take a shot for Instagram before you leave.

Kings Beach Bar

Looking for a relaxed vibe and an ocean breeze? Kings Beach Bar offers a killer breakfast menu you can enjoy while dining beachfront. There’s Poached Peaches, Mushroom and Halloumi Bruschetta and a couple of breakfast burgers.

But our top pick for one of the best breakfasts in Caloundra is The Farmhouse Breakfast—a dish loaded with free range eggs, home-style thick-cut bacon, roasted tomatoes and mushrooms, thick-cut pork sausage, halloumi and housemade hash on pumpkin sourdough.

Aurenda

Situated right on the Kings Beach headland, Aurenda is where the locals go. Slinging coffee and brekky from 5.30am every weekday morning makes it an essential drop in on your morning walk along the headland.

The team at Aurenda have stuck to a simple, but ample menu with a few curveballs. Their croissant benedict is self explanatory and it tastes as good as it sounds. Their take on the classic big breakfast—Aurenda's Bign'—is loaded with all the faves: Hashies, beans, bacon, egg, chorizo, mushies and tomatoes. They serve killer coffee too, so grab a seat at their waterfront venue and dig in.

Lamkin Lane

breakfast at a caloundra cafeTucked away in Lamkin Lane behind main street, the aptly named Lamkin Lane Espresso is home to one of the best brekky menus on the coast, let alone Caloundra. Their menu rotates with the seasons, but they have some essential staples that need to get in your belly immediately. Their brekky stack is just $13.50 and comes on a brioche bun which is then filled with double bacon, egg, a hash brown, their homemade onion relish and burger aioli.

They also have an epic take on the classic smavo. Avocado Baby is served on sourdough with beetroot relish, avocado rosella, potato gems, edamame beans and green peas. Combine these top tier brekkys with their coffee, which they use their own beans for, and you've got yourself the perfect brekky spot.

Coffee Cat

With no road between you and the waves, Coffee Cat is another Caloundra cafe that looks right out across Kings Beach. Neighbours to Kings Beach Bar, Coffee Cat has been serving Clown Town for 12 years now and they've never dropped their quality.

Their beach jaffle is a classic, filled with savoury mince and cheddar cheese. Other highlights include the peking duck and shiitake mushroom omelette and their Belgium waffles. If you've not tried it yet, it's a must for any resident or visitor.

Ours. Cafe & Goods

Moffat Beach has no shortage of great breakfast spots, but for those looking for a vegetarian or vegan breakfast look no further than Ours. Cafe & Goods. All ingredients used at Ours are spray-free or organic, so you can forget about any nasties. They offer up an all day breakfast menu that includes kimchi and sweet potato fritters, banana buckwheat pancakes and panfried mixed wild mushrooms. Their real stars however are the cabinet food.

Perfect for a snack or light brekky, their offerings include vegan blondies for the sweet tooths and eggplant, pumpkin, vintage cheddar and spinach with a lashing of spicy coconut aioli on charcoal sourdough toasties for those after something to really fill a hole.
