The Sunshine Coast’s Best Indoor Playgrounds For Rainy Days

By

All parents know that it’s no easy feat finding ways to entertain the precious cherubs on a rainy day. With an unpredictable mix of boundless energy and fleeting interests, you’re not alone in wishing bedtime would come sooner.

Before you orchestrate an impromptu puppet show or turn your living room into a makeshift obstacle course, get the gang in the car and prepare to finally relax—we’ve rounded up eight of the best Sunshine Coast indoor playgrounds and some extra adventure centres thrown in the mix to keep the kids entertained indoors. And to allow you that sweet, sweet moment of peace, of course. Read on for the Sunshine Coast’s best indoor playgrounds in 2024.

Rush Adventureland

Shop 10A/50 Plaza Parade, Maroochydore QLD 4558

Kids of all ages can run, climb and slide until their hearts are content at the Sunshine Coast’s largest indoor playground and adventure centre, Rush Adventureland.

This place is jam-packed with surprises at every turn, including a multi-level soft-play playground, a ninja course and a climbing area where kids 4+ can take an exciting 3.5-meter leap off the highest pillar. Don’t worry parents, everyone wears a safety harness. Our pick has to be the high ropes challenge specifically designed for kids and helps develop balance, coordination and agility. There’s even an onsite cafe ready to refuel the whole family (you'll probably need it).

The Big Boing

24C Innovation Parkway, Birtinya QLD 4575

For the high-energy darlings, The Big Boing is an absolute must. With a very impressive 50+ interconnected trampolines, the whole family can defy the laws of gravity, rebound off the walls and slam dunk like an NBA superstar in an hour-long session that even the grown-ups will enjoy.

Another big plus is that The Big Boing provides party options with everything covered, from the Little Boinger’s Party to the Rebound Dance Party complete with a DJ and disco lighting. Make sure you pack socks as each jumper will need them to join the fun.

Wally’s Inflatables

32 Production Avenue, Warana QLD 4575

Wally’s Inflatables is a real-life version of what kid's dreams are made of, located right here on the Coast. Do you know how much joy children (and adults) get from a jumping castle? Well, imagine three indoor courts packed with super exciting inflatable equipment and there you have Wally’s Inflatables. There are specific activities and equipment for different age groups so the kids can safely experience exhilarating indoor fun.

The space includes a specular ball pit, a gigantic slide and impressive obstacle courses- A truly great choice for kids to test the limits of fun and parents can test their caffeine intake. Who knows, you might even get to finish a complete sentence, uninterrupted.

Ninja Jungle

35 Owen Creek Road, Forest Glen, QLD, 4556

Calling all Ninja Warrior fans, Ninja Jungle is a destination you won’t forget. This distinctive indoor playground is packed with obstacle courses that bring the fun in a big way, in fact, it’s the biggest Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course in the country.

The kids will have their blood pumping with the unique combination of entertainment and improving strength and skills. There are several sessions available from Freeplay to Kinda Ninja to Train Like a Ninja for the older kids. Ninja Jungle has created a space for a diverse community made of families (two years and up) to training athletes. It makes sense why they’d need an on-site cafe with three separate (and delicious) menus.

Laserzone

3 Main Drive, Warana QLD 4575

We would be remiss to write about the Sunshine Coast's best indoor playgrounds without featuring a world-class Laser Tag and Laserzone has been holding the number one place since it opened its doors back in 1995. Your little adventurers can delve into the multi-level themed playing arena, discover the 6 base stations and hunt down over 30 targets while experiencing DMX sound, lighting and -the cherry on the top of the laser cake- fog effects.

Not only that but the space includes virtual reality and arcades. For kids, Laserzone is a boundless energy expulsion zone, for mum and dad, it’s a sanity-saving sanctuary. It’s a win-win if you ask us. Your mission awaits.

Kids World Adventure Indoor Playland

8 Fairfax St, Sippy Downs QLD 4556

Sit back, relax and enjoy a barista-made coffee while the little ones explore the huge play area that Kids World has to offer, consisting of multi-level play, hard and soft play, a ball pit and a mega slide that will have adults wishing they can travel back in time to have a go. Catering to children from baby to 11 years, Kids World provides hours of indoor entertainment.

The space is split into two zones; under 5’s and over 5’s, ensuring each space has age-appropriate fun. Once the kids get a load of this place, it will be a while before they’ll agree to leave—thankfully, there’s a cafe serving plenty of coffee and snacks for the parents.

Holey Moley

Big Top Shopping Centre, 12/20 Ocean St, Maroochydore QLD 4558

The kids will know they’ve hit the parent jackpot when you take them to Holey Moley in Maroochydore. We’re talking bowling, mini golf, escape rooms, arcade games and karaoke, all in one very impressive indoor location.

The whole family can work their way through the entertainment, starting with a mini golf experience like no other, par none (see what we did there?). You’ll putt through shark-infested waters and end up on The Simpsons couch. Next, step right up to the Archie Brother arcade, a dazzling overload for the senses. Trust us, you’ll be grateful the kids got you out of the house after all.

Timezone

Sunshine Plaza Shopping Centre, 154-164 Horton Parade, Maroochydore QLD 4558

We really should just rename it the Funshine Coast (okay, maybe not) because the indoor fun keeps coming and one of the biggest contenders is Timezone. It isn’t just any ordinary arcade, it’s Australia's leading destination for out-of-home entertainment featuring the latest and the greatest arcade games, bumper cars and mini bowling.

The epic prizes will impress any kid and big kid. There’s more than enough here to combat the human version of zoomies. If your child’s attention span evaporates faster than the rain outside, there’s always another activity to keep them occupied while you finish your meal from the on-site cafe.

The Station

8 The Avenue, Birtinya QLD 4575

While not technically a playground, The Station is the Sunshine Coast’s vibrant new family entertainment precinct, not only injecting fresh life into the former NightQuarter site in Birtinya but also creating a new space for little ones to let loose.

The family-friendly entertainment hub is open six days a week (with undercover areas for those rainy days) and stars a skate park Alley, a scooter and skate retail shop, an epic live entertainment concert venue, and a thriving food truck precinct where you can fuel up post-skate. For littlies, Alleys is our pick—it's perfect for everything from first steps on a skateboard to those wanting one-on-one sessions.
