8 Epic Things To Do On The Coast This Weekend

By Claire Plush - 26 May 2016

There’s so much action happening on the Coast this weekend, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Festivals galore, race days at the track, sporting events that’ll make you feel healthy by just standing on the sidelines (actually, they’ll prob do the opposite but ah well, you get the picture); this is the kind of send-off that May deserves.

No plans? That’s about to change with this epic list of things to do on the Sunshine Coast this weekend.

Ladies Oaks Day | May 27

Australian culture is one-of-a-kind, thanks to events like epic horse racing carnivals that invite us to frock up to the eyeballs, day drink in the sunshine, and have a dabble on the horses, with the afternoon predictably ending a little less couth for some. But alas, don’t you just love it?! Ladies Oaks Day is finally here, and with it free buses from Noosa, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, and Caloundra, to take you to and from the Sunshine Coast Turf Club. When it comes to awesome things to do on the Sunshine Coast, it doesn’t get much better than this, folks!
Where: 170 Pierce Avenue, Caloundra
Cost: $25 entry

Lamkin Lane Live | May 27

Caloundra’s answer to Night’s On Ocean in Maroochydore, Lamkin Lane Live is happening again this Friday night, from 5pm. If you haven’t yet been to one of these southern shindigs, this month’s line-up is a pretty good reason to pop that cherry. Street food mavens The Sprouted Kitchen, The Woodfired Pizza King, and Puerto Taco will be at the ready to help you feast al fresco, and there’ll be live tunes a-plenty from super talented up and comers, plus a pop-up bar. Get down and get Lamkin-ed!

Cheese and wine tastings at The Piano Bar | May 27

Looking for cheap things to do on the Sunshine Coast this weekend? For clock-off drinks that go beyond a schooner and some nuts, The Piano Bar is hosting complimentary wine and cheese tastings this Friday from 4.30pm, served with a side of live jazz. This week, the spotlight is on a selection of delicious hard cheeses, which apparently line the stomach very well for a few follow-up rounds of espresso martinis. Just sayin’.
Where: The Piano Bar, 22-24 Ocean Street, Maroochydore

Big Pineapple Music Festival | May 28

Before we get your hopes up, Big Pineapple Music Festival has actually sold out. Just. But if you’re one of the lucky ones that nabbed a ticket early on, or are in the throes of making a sweet deal with someone who’s selling theirs, then you’re probs going to have the weekend of your year so far. Rüfüs, You Am I, Hermitude, The Smith Street Band… need we go on?
Where: Big Pineapple, 76 Nambour Connection Road, Woombye

Ghetto Garage Sale | May 28

If you didn’t score tickets to the festival in time, Nambour is still bringing the goods to the “things to do on the Sunshine Coast” table, thanks to the likes of The Time Machine and Hereafter Vintage, and their big ol’ joint Ghetto Garage Sale. Held this Saturday from 9am to 2pm outside Villain Espresso (do yourself a favour—grab a coffee from caffeine Queen Andy while you’re there!), most items will be going for a steal at $1.
Where: 101 Currie Street, Nambour

Noosa Ultimate Sports Festival | May 28 and May 29

If you’re constantly harping on that you’re a “swimmer”, no a “runner”, no a “cyclist”, well, the Noosa Ultimate Sports Festival could either totally blow your cover or make you look like an absolute sports star in front of your mates. Saturday is all about the ocean swims with varying distances, while Sunday is packed with two rides—100km or 160km—throughout Noosa Hinterland and courses for running fanatics, including a tough half marathon. For the rest of us, cheering on the sidelines is totally a sport in its own right. You might even break a sweat with this summery autumn weather.
Where: Various locations across Noosa Heads

Italian Long Lunch At Noosa Waterfront Restaurant | May 29

We might not have the Tuscan countryside or the age-old crumbling buildings, but the Coast can still do a real good Italian Long Lunch. Well, at least Noosa Waterfront Restaurant can. For 60 bucks you’ll sip Prosecco, nibble on artisan bread alongside an antipasti platter, savour homemade pasta, and that’s just the beginning. Excuse us, while we go and salivate.
Where: Noosa Waterfront Restaurant, 142 Gympie Terrace, Noosaville

Yoga On The Deck at Spicers Clovelly | May 29

There’s yoga, in a room. Then, there’s yoga on a deck in the hinterland, surrounded by nature, and followed by scrumptious breakfast at Spicers Clovelly. Oh, and if you’re feeling up to a dip in the estate’s pool, you can do that too! Make it a complete get-out-of-your-hood day, and after your super relaxing yoga experience, linger a little longer in the hills and explore the M-towns—Maleny, Monvtille, and Mapleton. Tip: One of our favourite things to do on the Sunshine Coast is stock up one fresh fruit and veggies at the random farm gates along the way. So make sure you’ve got a handful of gold coins at the ready.
