To put it simply: Hobart is a foodie’s dream. And when it comes to breakfast (in our opinion the best meal of the day), Tasmania’s capital really nails it. From flaky sweet pastries and stuffed doughnuts to baked eggs and towering brekky burgs, you’ll want to carve out some time to tackle these tasty spots.
Take note, these are the best breakfast spots in Hobart.
For one of the best breakfast spreads in Hobart, look no further than Sisterhood. Serving an all-day brunch menu that will rival your favourite local, this bright and airy spot is a must do. The menu boasts tasty eats like pickled zucchini jaffles, Belgian waffles with spiced apple fritters, baked eggs and our personal favourite, breakfast pasta—made wth buttered leek, bacon and light greens tossed through linguine with pecorino and nduja pangritata. Yep, we’re drooling too. Take your brekky to the next level with a Bloody Mary or mimosa. You’re on holiday after all.
With an ever-changing, seasonal menu, Berta is known for heroing local produce and Tassie farmers—which means every bite here is damn delicious. Nestled in the heart of Hobart, the quirky space is both cosy and chic. On the menu you can expect incredible eats like spring onion pancakes with sticky pork belly and potato crumpets topped with poached eggs, a slab of local bacon and drizzled with honey and apple mustard. Sweet tooths will want to tuck into the brioche French toast loaded with quince, pecans and cinnamon ricotta. They also make a cracking mimosa and boozy breakfast spritz just as an FYI.
Pigeon Hole Bakers
Hidden down a quiet street in the CBD, this chic, minimalist spot slings some of Hobart’s best coffee. Even better, Pigeon Hole Baker’s brekky offerings are just as epic. The front counter at the family-run bakery is packed with fresh croissants, delicate fruit danishes, crusty sourdough loaves, chocolate-filled doughnuts, bagels and towering sandwiches stuffed with everything from fluffy scrambled eggs and bacon to cheese and prosciutto. The toughest part will truly be narrowing down your choices. Pro tip: just buy them all. You won’t regret it.
If you like your breakfasts sweet, and firmly believe that doughnuts should be in its own food group, then make a beeline for Queens Pastry. Slinging St Ali coffee from their mint-green uber Instagrammable shop, Queens Pastry is small in size but big on their doughnut offering. Think everything from classic cinnamon sugar and glazed to lemon curd and strawberry meringue. There’s also new daily special creations like Biscoff cheesecake twice-baked croissant and coffee, chocolate and rum cruffins. We’re drooling just thinking about it.
Room For A Pony
With plenty of outdoor tables to soak up the sunshine, this uber cool spot is a must-do when looking for the best breakfast in Hobart. Room For A Pony’s menu is packed with tasty classics—eggs Benedict and avo smash—as well as innovative (and seriously good) dishes like chinese fried chilli omelette with jasmine rice, oyster sauce and chilli jam and scrambled silken tofu with sautéed Asian mushroom medley, house kimchi and sourdough. And you have to try our personal fave, Huevos Rancheros—eggs baked in red bean tomato sauce grilled cheese, feta, smashed avo and sourdough toast.
