Each part of the series focuses on a different member of the family. It’s campy, the action is over the top and it is definitely bizarre, but with an 8.5 star rating on IMDB, it’s definitely one to put on your watch-list.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
If you’re looking for a bite-sized anime series to binge, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a 10-episode fan and critic favourite. It’s based on the video game Cyberpunk 2077 and follows street kid David Martinez trying to survive as a mercenary outlaw Ederunner, also known as a Cyberpunk. While the series is set years before the game, fans loved little nods to the universe, like having characters walk through the same locations from the game. The 8.3/10 IMDB rating speaks for itself. The whole show is a masterstroke in worldbuilding and a must-watch for anyone looking for excellent animation and compelling characters.
Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales Of The Macabre
The stories of horror manga master Junji Ito have been adapted into anime. Fans were gifted 12 episodes to stream in 2023, with the anthology series adapting some of the creepiest short stories. Stories include Hanging Blimp, Tomie・Photo, Four x Four Walls and Intruder. Stream it now.
Neon Genesis: Evangelion
Originally broadcast in Japan in the 90s, Neon Genesis: Evangelion is often considered one among the greatest anime series of all times. The plot follows teenage Shinji Ikari who has been recruited by his father to a mysterious organisation called Nerv, where he pilots an Evangelion and fights beings called angels. While the plot is interesting, the show is more about the characters’ introspection and development. The Apothecary Diaries
If you’re looking for a fun weekly anime watch, The Apothecary Diaries is one to add to your viewing schedule. Released in 2023 and with an 8.5 rating on IMDB, this popular anime follows Maomao in a medical mystery series set in an alternate reality of the Ming dynasty. It’s charming, fun and you will absolutely love how Maomao walks all over everyone in her vicinity with her tenacity and intelligence.
Delicious in Dungeon
This is one of those shows that starts slow and grows on you. Based on a Manga series of the same name, the story follows Laios whose sister has been eaten by a dragon on a failed dungeon raid. In an effort to rescue her before she’s digested, he recruits his friends to find her, but they must fight and cook monsters along the way to survive. The 8-star IMDB rated show is like anime with a cooking theme and a bit of D&D adventure thrown in.
Drifting Home
Drifting Home takes you on a journey alongside a group of sweet elementary school students stuck adrift on a strange abandoned apartment building who have to rely on their inner minds and each other to find a way to safely get back home to everything they know and love. An exciting and slightly bittersweet film for the whole family, you’ll fall in love with these clever young characters in no time.
Bubble
This anime sci-fi hit takes you deep into the future where the once crowded Tokyo skyline has been completely abandoned and instead overrun by bubbles and strange gravitational abnormalities getting the extremely quick-minded and gifted young protagonist into adventures beyond his wildest dreams. But when he meets his mystery girl, everything changes. A great teen film for old and young, Bubble is bound to give a great movie night in.

The 1,000+ episode series is adapted from a blockbuster Manga, and is so popular Netflix came out with a live action in 2023. One Piece follows a boy named Luffy and his goofy crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they search for the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’. The series is fun and whimsical and sees Luffy travelling between islands with each being like their own little world. If you want an anime that mixes chaotic humour with emotional moments and world-building storytelling, One Piece is worth the ride.
Princess Mononoke
Another absolute classic anime creation is the 1997 cult fave Princess Mononoke that follows a prince with a lethal curse on his desperate mission to find a cure before it’s too late while landing in the midst of a crazy battle between the animals of a forest and a destructive mining town.
The Wind Rises
Animating God Hayao Miyazaki is behind this decades-spanning plot inspired by the life of sweet Jiro Horikoshi, a designer of The Zero, a WWII fighter plane. The Wind Rises is an emotional, heart-wrenching but ultimate bittersweet tale that is a favourite amongst anime enthusiasts for its historical drama genre and its development of courageous Jiro.
A Whisker Away

The series, a solid fan-favourite with a 7.7 IMDB star rating, follows stoic and beautiful schoolgirl Shouko Komi who is riddled with social anxiety, leaving her unable to talk to anyone. Enter Tadano, the one classmate who realises what’s going on and decides to help her reach her goal of making 100 friends. The show is wholesome and a little awkward (but in the best way), the characters are endearing, and the stylised animation brings it all to life.
Blue Period
Blue Period takes us into the mind of super popular high schooler Yatora Yaguchi as he jumps into the beautiful yet enormously unrelenting world of art after finding inspiration in a painting that completely shakes his thinking and becomes reinvigorated after being so bored and disenchanted with life. With 12 short 25ish minute episodes, this is one you can binge in a couple of sittings.
Vinland Saga
This middle ages anime is jam packed full of sword fights, drama and action to capture any viewer. Vinland Saga looks into young Throfinn’s arrival into the mercenary band of his murderer Askeladd planning to avenge his father’s death.
