While booking a getaway to a bucket-list worthy location is up there with one of our favourite things in the world, getting said holiday for an absolute steal makes it so much sweeter.

But short of sitting on a computer all day and trawling everything single airline and hotel chain looking for a sale (who has time for that?), it can be hard to nab a great deal.

Thankfully, the travel gurus at Expedia have trawled through the data and worked out the perfect formula for ensuring you save serious coin on your next adventure.

When it comes to booking flights this can often be the biggest slow to your bank account—but it doesn’t have to be. According to Expedia, for both domestic and international flights (we wait in hope this happens this year), booking on a Sunday, not a Friday could save you around 25% on domestic airfares and almost 15% for international flights. Think of all the glorious meals, cocktails and spa treatments you could spend those savings on.

Data also revealed that for domestic flights, starting your trip on a Thursday, can save almost 20% compared to departing on a Sunday. Whereas, for international flights, start your trip on a Tuesday or Thursday, not Sunday to save nearly 20%. We love to hear it!

When it comes to where you rest your head at night, they’ve got some handy data for that too. For domestic holidays, the lowest average daily rate (ADR) for accommodation tends to occur on a Monday. Not overly surprising we know but travellers could save almost 15% versus staying on the most expensive day, which is a Saturday. For international travel, the cheapest day falls between Sunday and Tuesday. That means you can really treat yo’self to some ‘gram-worthy accommodation on your next sojourn.
