It’s safe to say that 2020 became the year of mass purchasing, whether it was hand sanitizer, face masks or just regular old cleaning products and basically anything else that could keep germs at bay—thanks, ‘rona. For some of us, the fear of getting sick probably overrode the thought of being sustainable—for a while, anyway.
That’s why we were so pumped when Ethique dropped its brand new, totally revolutionising range of conscious and concentrated beauty and household cleaning bars, which are guaranteed to be a game-changer in the sustainable space.
Unlike the other bars in Ethique’s range, which are used just as they are, in bar form, the new concentrated bars are designed to be broken into small pieces, melted down with water and poured into your vessel of choice. Boom—you’ve got yourself liquid shampoo, body lotion and handwash, with not a plastic bottle in sight. There’s even a multi-purpose cleaning spray and dishwashing liquid in the new range—so it’s not just your bathroom that will be a little greener.
Brianne West, Ethique founder and CEO, says that each concentrates bar will save 700ml of water (the water that would go into making a single plastic bottle) and one plastic bottle from manufacture and disposal into landfill.
“We are rethinking refillables with our world-first, patent-pending, range of concentrates that is two years in the making. We provide the concentrated blocks and you provide the water,” she says.
“We know that not everyone likes using bars and that the majority of the population is still used to liquid products. This way, you get the best of both worlds—you get to make up as little or as much of the product as you need at a time, without contributing to plastic and water waste—it’s a win-win.”
If you thought these game-changers couldn’t get any better, now’s probably a good time for us to tell you that these products are also certified vegan, cruelty free, palm oil-free, 100% plastic-free and packaged in certified compostable cardboard and free from any petroleum by-products. All ingredients are also fair trade, sustainably sourced and naturally derived—basically you’ve never been cleaner, or greener.
You can scope out the range and ditch the plastic bottles for good right here.
