5 Awesome Things To Do This Week In Brisbane

By Daisy Harris - 29 May 2017

Alright folks it may be getting a wee bit chillier (sort of) but that no excuse to hide under your doona; there’s a tonne of awesome things to do in Brisbane this week.

From a highly anticipated gallery exhibition, indulgent Italian dinners, cabaret shows and, for the loyal Queenslander, a festival dedicated to our beautiful sunshine state, get amongst some great things to do this week in Brisbane.

All Week

Maroon Festival 2017

The perfect event to amp up your fellow Maroon supporters, the Maroon Festival 2017 will flaunt itself on Southbank from today for the 2017 Holden State of Origin Series. Get involved in all the festivities; from festival fitness classes, local QLD produce food stalls, plus a waterfront garden bar, this is one event in Brisbane that cannot be missed. Not to be bias, but QLD really knows how to throw an origin party (and win) properly. Why wouldn’t you join in the fun? For all the details click here.

Marvel: Creating The Cinematic Universe At QAGOMA

The first major exhibition of its kind in Australia, Marvel: Creating The Cinematic Universe will showcase awe-inspiring props, production design, special effects and original artworks from some of the most iconic Marvel films. If you’re keen to immerse yourself into the world of The Hulk and Ant-Man (who isn’t!), check out all the gallery event info here.

Wine Dinner Series At Otto

This delectable, indulgent four-course dinner will send you into early hibernation. Otto’s ever popular wine dinner series is back—and if you missed it last month, here’s your chance to get involved. Sip on a 2012 Vintage Shiraz from Brash Higgins Wines while tucking into some of the finest Italian fare courtesy of Otto (the scenic views of our stunning river city are a very pleasant bonus). Running over the next 12 weeks, each event so far have been sellouts so get your tickets now—no excuses! For more information click here.

Queensland Cabaret Festival 2017

Roll-up, roll-up! This Thursday, the QLD Cabaret Festival returns! This year’s event will boast a number of awesome gigs but you absolutely HAVE to kick it off with ‘Song Lines’ by Michael Tuahine. This hilarious comical and lyrical tale of Aboriginal and Maori history is all sorts of interesting and funny as hell. A total must-see. Check out more headliners for this year’s Cabaret Festival, here.

Lady Beatle At La Boite Theatre

When we are talking Beatles renditions, you best not interrupt us. The super sassy ‘Lady Beatle’ show has been turned into a fantastic cabaret production at La Boite Theatre. This stellar show re-imagines the greatest Beatles hits—we’re talking banger after banger here. Headliner Naomi Price is big and VERY bold, and will captivate you until the curtains close with your favourite Beatles tracks (just never heard like this before). You can thank us later.
