We don’t want to scare you, but this is going to be a BIG Melbourne week. We’re talking Superbowl parties, a cheese-inspired dinner, a #raging New Orleans Festival, the launch of Pause Fest 2016 and a refreshing Weis cocktail to wash it all down. There are just too many great events on and we’re determined not to miss any of these sweet, sweet February vibes.
Check out our 5 Awesome Things To Do In Melbourne this week.
Pause Fest 2016
It all begins on Monday 8 February. In its sixth year, this fan-bloody-tastic festival brings together the best creative and digital minds from near and far. So basically, it’s an innovation cannonball of smart minds all in one spot! There’s a wonderful set of speakers as well as installations, workshops and screenings. It’s all playing out across Melbourne until 14 February - click here to check out the program and learn more.
Sip on Sorbet Weis Cocktails
When we order an iced chocolate, we’re really asking for that sweet morsel of ice cream that sits atop the chocolaty-milky goodness. So, why can’t we have a teensy bit of sorbet with our cocktails? Well, thanks to Weis Sorbet Exotics – we finally can! They’ve gotten into the summertime spirit and have teamed up with five of our favourite cocktail bars to bring all Melburnians the thirst-quenching cocktail of our dreams. The cocktail bars include State of Grace, Mr Mason, the Wharf Hotel, Terra Rossa and World Bar & Restaurant, but there’s only one catch… these ripper cocktails are only around til 15 February, so use your week wisely and hit up these cocktail bars for good times all round.
Celebrate Superbowl Madness at The Village or Prahran Hotel
There comes a time in everyone’s life when they must make ‘Sophie’s Choice’. This week’s choice is between The Village and Prahran Hotel’s Superbowl extravaganzas. On one hand, Prahran Hotel is opening at 10am with over 15 screens showcasing the action live throughout the venue - plus USA foodie flavours, including mac n’ cheese croquettes, buffalo hot wings and Chicago devil dogs. Don’t even start us on the Coors Light buckets. It’s also free. Are you sold?
But then there’s the Village, our wonderful party-throwing wonderland. Guys, there’ll be SIXTEEN flavours of chicken wings. How even?! The doors bust open at 8am, when you’ll be greeted by Ormond Hall’s mega screen with all the live action – plus 3 others dispersed throughout the hall. They’ll also have some killer drink specials to help you wash down your American delicacies. Tickets range from $12 and upwards, click here to book.
Our suggestion: split yourself in half and go to both! HOORAY!
Shadow Thieves Cheese Dinner at Ombra | Melbourne
The fabulous Ombra Bar has teamed up with resident cheese haven, Milk The Cow, to create a four-course dinner that focuses on one special key ingredient. Yep, CHEESE! It kicks off at 6.30pm where you will be treated to a four-course sharing style cheese dinner with matched wines to boot. All for $85 per person, B is for Bargain! All right we Camembert it anymore (lol), we must book ourselves in for this one. Click here to save yourself a slice of Brie.
Fat Tuesday Festival at Piazza Italia | Carlton
Thanks to Po’ Boy Quarter and Ding Dong Lounge, all Melburnians can celebrate New Orleans style this Tuesday at Piazza Italia in Carlton. This audacious and bodacious festival celebrates Mardi Gras style (the last day of ‘Carnival' in New Orleans), so there’s bound to be much merrymaking, feasting and dancing. There’s going to be Southern food coming out of your ears, including Girls with the Gris Gris, Bluebonnet BBQ & Taco Truck and Louisiana Gumbo. Not to mention the fortune-teller’s booth and a friendly costume competition. Also, Bayou Tapestry, Jazz Party and Horns of Leroy will be joined by many more to serenade you throughout the day. I’m feeling my Southern roots comin’ out already. It runs from 4pm – 10pm and tickets are $24, click here to purchase now.
