Oh public holidays, how glad I am to see you alive and well. With the promise of a long weekend (and the promise of an overabundance of chocolate) looming, here are the five awesome things to do this week to get you in the Easter holidaying mood!
Skip the weekend queues and head to the Jurassic World Exhibition
So you missed the geek-filled opening of highly anticipated Jurassic World Exhibition this weekend? We know you’re as keen as a T-Rex to go, there’s no need to pretend. Roar into Melbourne Museum’s life-sized, animatronic exhibition based off scenes from Jurassic World this week! Adult tickets are $30 Monday-Thursday and $34 Friday-Sunday with concession and children’s pricing available.
Start the Easter celebrations early at the Coburg Food Truck Festival
Returning for two days only, the Coburg Food Truck Festival is perfect for kicking off Easter festivities. No one will be (really) working come Thursday anyway. London Has Fallen (lol), Batman vs Superman (um yes) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (YES) will be screening alongside Melbourne’s best food trucks. Expect the likes of Crepes for Change, Taco Truck and Sliders on Tyres over this extravagant, pillow-filled food celebration.
Now you need to actually prepare for Easter
Easter preparations are in order if you have any hope of snagging some Easter chocolate at full price. Sales will hit in under 72 hours and if you have any self-respect you won’t allow subpar, identical-tasting chocolate bunnies into your home. Hot cross buns will also make a magic disappearance over the next week (just as you’ll make that chocolate disappear), so hit up Melbourne’s Best Hot Cross Buns. We’ve done the hard raisin yards for you.
Laugh until your chocolate-filled gut hurts at The (Very) Big Laugh Out
Is there a better way to spend a public holiday? We think not. The (Very) Big Laugh Out is a family-friendly, free event featuring stand-up comedy, circus acts and international performances to entertain you on your day off! The (Very) Big Laugh Out is held at 5pm this Friday at Federation Square. Visit the website for full event details.
Forget setting up the Easter egg hunt and head to Caulfield’s Easter Cup Day
Remember last year when you found two deflated Easter bunnies in the Christmas drawer? Skip the mouldy chocolate this year (and anyone who claims chocolate doesn’t mould clearly hasn’t participated in a competitive Easter egg hunt) and head to Caulfield’s Easter Cup Day. Home to jumping castles, face painting and an Easter hunt dubbed the world’s best, celebrate Easter this weekend in relaxed racing style.

Why not use this long weekend to knock off the 20 Free Things To Do In Melbourne This March? The more dollars for chocolate the better...
