Of course, we’re starting with world class Peninsula Hot Springs. This place is no stranger to Urban List and for good reason (here's why we love it).
Their mineral springs, stunning retreats and quirky bathing barrels, plus the new glamping tents and outdoor cinema, make this place the ultimate day trip (or overnight venture) from Melbourne.
Our tip: go on a winter morning to avoid the crowds and warm up in the most luxurious way. Plus, if you're feeling bougie or don't fancy driving home you can check out their glamping or eco retreats.
The mini-hike up to th he top pool is also 100 per cent worth it, with 360-degree views.
Hepburn Springs Bathhouse & Spa
Mineral Springs Reserve Road, Daylesford
It’s called Spa Country for a reason. Established during the 1850s gold rush by Swiss-Italian migrants, Hepburn Springs Bathhouse and Spa is one of the most indulgent offerings in the region.
They offer both private and communal bathing in their mineral pools, and the spa list is extensive. The mineral water found in their springs is akin to liquid gold, so get ready to luxuriate in it.

Metung Hot Springs has been designed to be a more intimate bathing experience, compared to its Peninsula counterpart.

Deep Blue Hotel & Hot Springs
Worm Bay Road, Warrnambool
Deep Blue Hotel & Hot Springs lives up to it’s name of a sanctuary—open-air rock pools, sensory caves and cleansing waterfalls mean you’re in for one hell of a relaxing time.
You can opt for a daytime session for that day-spa feel, but if you’re looking for a romantic evening, they also offer twilight sessions. There are 15 therapeutic geothermal pools, and they offer overnight stays if a weekend away is on the cards.
Japanese Mountain Retreat
14 Mountain Crescent, Montrose

The biggest draw for Japanese Mountain Retreat is the simple but powerful fact that you don’t need to share your bath with any strangers (which means clothing is officially optional).
Designed with couples in mind, they’ve got indoor and outdoor options, the latter having either walled Japanese or tropical garden features.
The indoor options include a Roman bathhouse-style pool and steam room, a traditional Japanese cedar hot tub, and (if you’re really looking to indulge) a six-course omakase.
