Auckland’s Best Irish Pubs

From Guiness to Liam Neeson to St Paddy’s Day, Ireland has given us a lot of great stuff over the years so, it’s no wonder there’s so many great pubs dedicated to Ireland on the opposite side of the globe. Whether you’re keen to get amongst the Irish atmosphere for the first time or you’re after a taste of home to curb the cravings, here are Auckland’s best Irish pubs!

Father Teds

Auckland CBD

Voted New Zealand’s top best Irish pub outside of Ireland, we really couldn’t look past Father Teds when making this list. Great service, great food, great craic, what more could you need? Situated on Wellesley Street West, Father Teds is always bursting with a great atmosphere with live music and entertainment seven days a week. Head down for a pint of Guiness or Kilkenny before moving onto one of their many New Zealand beers on tap to get the best of both worlds. FYI, they also do the best cooked breakfasts for the morning after. Homemade waffles with whipped cream and maple syrup? Yes please!

After a real authentic taste of Ireland? Look no further than O’Hagans in the buzzing Viaduct. There’s three bars in one at O’hagans, giving you the choice to pick your ideal spot to sit back and relax with friends or catch the footy game with a nice cold pint in hand. With hearty food, an extensive beer menu (Guiness tops the list of course), and a view that stretches into the Waitemata Harbour, it’s not hard to see why all the Irish locals make a beeline to O’Hagans whenever they need a taste of home.

The Fiddler Irish Bar

Auckland CBD

If you’re wanting to treat yourself to a pint and singalong with your pals to wash away that homesickness, we’ve found just the place for you. Nestled right into the heart of Auckland, The Fiddler on Victoria Street is home to live music every night, an epic pool table area, and an upstairs deck with views of the Auckland city skyline. The Fiddler feels as though it’s been plucked straight off the streets of Dublin and set down in Auckland. Trust us when we say it’s the perfect place for after work drinks or a night out on the town!

The Clare Inn

Mount Eden

For an Irish pub the whole family can enjoy, visit The Clare Inn. Here, you’ll find a dose of real craic and a warm welcome that’ll have you feeling right at home. With a solid Irish community of regulars and traditional Irish pub meals (award-winning as well, may we add) The Clare Inn is a true sense of Ireland in Mount Eden. We recommend the smoked tomato ratatouille and slow roasted lamb shoulder for real warm-you-up, homecooked kind of meals. The Clare Inn also have live music, quiz nights, and Texas Hold’em Poker to keep you well and truly entertained.

Murphy’s Law Irish Bar

Take a nice Sunday drive down to Drury and you’ll come across the very spacious and laidback pub that is Murphy’s Law. Don’t let the name fool you, the only thing that could go wrong is not getting here sooner. The interior will have you transported immediately to the UK countryside and the outdoor seating is perfect for when the sun decides to shine. Murphy’s Law’s menu caters to each and every person’s wants and needs with pizzas, burgers, platters, steaks, and any other pub meal you can dream of—it’s the perfect way to end the weekend!

Danny Doolan’s

Auckland CBD

Cheap and cheerful is our motto at Danny Doolan’s. A good pint, plate full of fish and chips and some traditional live music is all you really need to make it a great night at the pub and Doolan’s specialises in just this. There’s live music every night of the week and a bar menu filled with all the classics to satisfy every comfort food craving. Psst… they also do Hershey chocolate ice cream sundaes!

Barrel Inn

Consider this one a hidden gem, The Barrel Inn is East Auckland’s tiny slice of Ireland. The Barrel Inn is known to go off on a Thursday night, provide faultless pub grub during the day, and be the ideal spot to catch a game on the big screen. From a steak and Guiness pie to a crispy fried chicken burger, The Barrel Inn is heavenly for a lazy afternoon catch up in the sun with some great food. Don’t forget, they also do quiz nights and have a few pokies set up around the place for when you’re feeling lucky!
