Daily Bread is fast taking over Auckland and we are so here for it. And now, you can get your flaky croissant fix even easier—thanks to the bakery’s stunning new outpost in Newmarket’s Citta Design store.
Daily Bread first graced Auckland’s culinary scene with the opening of its Point Chevalier flagship in 2018. It was destined for success, having been founded by Tom Hishon and Josh Helm (of Orphan’s Kitchen fame) and 22nd-generation German baker Patrick Welzenbach.
The trio has set their sights on spreading their famed sourdough far and wide. The bakery has expanded to include an outpost in Ponsonby’s The Greenhouse apartments, a recent Parnell pop-up, and now Newmarket gets a slice of the pie (literally).
You’ll find their latest venture in Newmarket’s beautiful Citta store. It’s a one-stop destination that allows you to browse Citta’s New Zealand-designed furniture and homeware before refuelling with a freshly baked pastry. What more could you want?
The cafe’s fit-out is industrial yet homely, pairing a polished concrete floor and metal display racks with warm terracotta tiles and wooden seating. The counter is stacked high with buttery pastries, stuffed doughnuts, and—if you’re lucky—Daily Bread’s pillowy hot cross buns.
Your taste buds will be lured in by the scent of hazelnut croissants, cardamom buns, and doughnuts piped with blackcurrant and tangelo cream. We can’t go past the kouign-amann (translation: cake butter) featuring crunchy and oh-so-buttery layers of pastry and sticky caramelised sugar. Proceed with caution—it’s as epic as it sounds.
The pies are equally unmissable with homely mince and mutton, cheesy beef bolognese, and a vegetarian-friendly curried kumara (our fave). You’ll also find Daily Bread’s signature sourdough creations, made with organic wheat grown right here in New Zealand. Grab a loaf to take home or enjoy in-store as a fresh or toasted sandwich.
Pair your baked goods with expertly brewed Coffee Supreme. Their custom-blend showcases heavenly notes of dark chocolate and citrus peel—what a combo, right? Have yours with Jersey Girl Organics’ A2 milk or opt for Daily Bread’s house-made hazelnut milk.
With brews and eats like this, we suspect Daily Bread will become a go-to for coffee and pastry-goers alike. Welcome to Newmarket, team. We’re beyond stoked for your latest venture.
