Good news for those who work, live or play near Ponsonby road… Dedwood Deli is here to make your lunchtime and late-night food missions 100% more enjoyable.
Though new to the Ponsonby strip, the venture’s been a year in the making after childhood friends (and lovers of good food) Alex Haynes and Adrian Hoffmann decided to take the plunge and open up their very own deli. Two lockdowns later and Dedwood Deli is here to cater to all your sandwich, gelato and soon to be late-night cravings.
Named for Ponsonby’s old moniker after a certain Captain Dedwood—who we’re convinced was a lively old soul back in 1845—this cute eatery exudes rustic charm and wholesomeness.
The menu is simple yet on point. Perhaps you’ll choose to dig into a New York reuben or sourdough with chimi steak, laksa chicken or stuffed portobello for the veggies amongst us. Sandwich flavours will be on a high rotation but all are guaranteed to be slapping. The boys make all their own sauces—look out for the bacon, maple and chilli mayo—and that’s just a taste of things to come with loaded fries, waffle fries and loaded chicken wings hopefully not too far away on the agenda.
Having already featured a pop up at Revelry over the road, plans are afoot to make this a regular evening occurrence to service the hungry souls haunting Ponsonby Road of an evening. Rumours of a fondue-style all new menu with dipping sauces paired with the craft beers on offer at Revelry has us drooling already.
Speaking of drooling, let’s take a look at the intriguing gelato on offer. Made fresh in house using high quality ingredients, their Baileys and Whisky offering is definitely a stand out. For those looking for something a little more delicate, the sage and honey is sure to please. Three to four of the flavours are vegan—including the most popular gelato—the pure black delight with a charcoal infusion Burnt Coconut and Chocolate. We’ll certainly be back to try all the flavours including the, frankly intriguing, blue spirulina cone.
Wash your sandwich and gelato combo down with some cold brew coffee or Batchwell Kombucha and you’re guaranteed to continue your Ponsonby shenanigans with a happy tum.
