Ever wanted to visit Peru to sink your teeth into their culinary delights, but can’t quite afford that plane ticket? Well, you’re in luck as new Peruvian-style restaurant, INCA, hits Westfield Newmarket's rooftop dining scene. (Let the mouthwatering commence)
Auckland restaurateur Nic Watt and chef Darren Johnson have been on the restaurant scene for a lifetime and have cooked their way around the world. So let's just say we are over the moon that they joined forces to create this unique South America meets Asia dining experience.
Now let’s get into the good stuff—the food. Taco lovers, listen up! With three different types of Taco to choose from, there’s no messing around, just get all three (why the hell not). Each delicate parcel brings something new to the menu; The crispy fish served with a smoked tomato and lemon mayo brings the zing, the melt-in your mouth braised beef brings texture to the palate, while the alpastor-style pork adds something a little sweet and spicy to the mix.
Now if tacos aren’t your thing then maybe the spicy chicken wings will entice you. Showcasing the Latin American meets Asian flavours, the wings are smothered in a smoked chipotle soy sauce, which is to die for. Now that’s what we call #fingerlickingoodchicken. TIP: Be sure to have plenty of napkins on hand as things can get a little messy, or if you don’t want to see that sauce go to waste then don’t be afraid to use your mitts.
More of a fish fan? Then don't worry, INCA has you covered. If you like Sashimi, then you’ll love the Peruvian take on this dish. Tiradito (the throw down) is a Nikkei style sashimi, which pays homage to the fusion of two cultures. Sink your teeth into the market fish, served with a chilli tamarind dressing and dollops of coconut chia. It may not be the prettiest dish, but it certainly packs a whole load of flavour.
Meat lovers rejoice! INCA is home to its very own BBQ stove, serving up lamb cutlets, crispy pork belly, baby back pork ribs and even salmon. We opted for the pork belly, and let’s just say we weren’t disappointed. It was the perfect combination of succulent yet crispy.
Now what about a tipple or two to wash down all this delicious grub. With a wide range of NZ and international wines to choose from, you’re spoilt for choice. There’s even a selection of wine on tap and a variety of cocktails to quench your thirst, oh and let’s not forget about the margarita slushy machine!
The decor is just as eye-catching as the food, with their bright, vibrant terracotta set up and splashes of pink and green to represent Peru’s Rainbow mountain. As soon as you step into the space, you'll feel as though you’ve been transported to Peru itself.
