Where To Take Your Dad On Father's Day

Dad, papa, farj, pops. Whatever his name, you wouldn’t be who or where you are today without him. And, as we all know, there’s no better way to say thanks than with food and booze.

To help give your dad the day he deserves, we’ve rounded up the best places to take your dad this father’s day. From craft beer bars to Italian feasts, your old man will be chuffed.

If sandwiches and coffee are more up dad’s alley, then Ceremony is the ticket. This funky Grafton spot will introduce your old man to the glorious creation that is the #2—a sandwich jam-packed with pork and fennel sausage, an over easy egg, cheddar, slaw and sriracha mayo. Blame Ceremony if dad ends up tagging along to all future Sunday hungover feeds. He’ll be hooked.

For the ultimate Father’s Day day out, look no further than Bracu. Opt for a two or three-course lunch or keep things light with Bracu garden snacks—think cheese and bacon croissants, chicken sammies and carrot cake. Mmm, mmm. You’re sure to win Dad over with this gem of a location.

The Grill by Sean Connolly

Federal St

If your old man is a meat-lover, book in lunch at The Grill. You’ll be treated to a truly impressive meat-centric feast. Kick things off with oysters, mini wagyu burgers and salmon tartare. Next, a study of beef, lamb and pork will be carved for the table to enjoy with duck fat chips, Grandma’s carrots with parsley butter, plus cabbage and parmesan slaw. Tums will be super full, so end things on a light note with cool coconut sago.

Sawmill Brewery

Head out of town to check out Sawmill Brewery. Bloody good beers are a given, but this cool spot is also home to a great food menu. Nibble on fresh flounder and smoked sardine pâté in the beer garden while knocking back a beer or two. This one is a must for hop-head dads.

Brother’s Juke Joint BBQ

Mt Eden

Like your craft beer closer to town? Mt Eden’s Juke Joint is the place to go. Share a tray of meaty goodness, tater tots, and mac ‘n cheese, washed down by a beer paddle. If your dad is a beer fan, he’ll be impressed with the on-site brewery. Sit inside and soak in the atmosphere or find a pozzy in the courtyard. Either way, it’ll guarantee you a spot in dad’s good books.

Auckland CBD

Stunning harbour views and stellar seafood to match is sure to impress the socks off your pops. Harbourside’s lunch menu is dotted with everything from classic fish pie and fresh crayfish to confit duck and slow roasted pork belly—if anything, dad will struggle to choose. With a selection of top New Zealand wine and a tempting Baileys ice parfait, your dad will leave as one happy camper.

Asylum Paintball

Let Dad express his inner warrior with a little bit of paintball this Father’s Day. This is the perfect opportunity to let loose with Dad (as well as finding out who truly is Dad’s favourite). We’ve even found the best place to paintball in Auckland for you—Asylum Paintball. So put yours, dad’s and mum’s skills to the test, but hey, go easy on the old man, hmmmkay?

About Man

Pampering isn’t just for the mums out there—no, siree! Our friends over at About Man has got Dad totally sussed for all of his glam, bam and pampering needs. Let Dad lax out this Father’s Day with About Man’s facial packages, followed by one of their ever-so-soothing massages. And, for those of you who think Dad deserves a whole lot of loving, treat him to a Triumph and Disaster pamper pack to take home—the pampering never ends.

Play Golf

Multiple Locations

Has your Dad always dreamed of being the next Tiger Woods? Let those dreams come to life at one of Auckland’s driving ranges. We don’t know about you, but sport is definitely on our Dad’s list of fave things. Good thing we rounded up the best golf courses in and around Auckland.

Extreme Karts

Some of us are almost certain we’re better drivers than our parents, and for some that may be true (as much as they never like to admit it). So, why not put this to the ultimate test with some Go Karting?! Put those facials and fine dining aside, because you’re in for a wild ride this Father’s Day––you’re welcome.

Swap out the beer for something a little classier this Father’s Day. Dad’s going to be super impressed with new joint, The Caretaker. Customised cocktails are all you need to get into Dad’s good books this September. And trust us, after this place your name is right on the top of that list. Let Dad order his usual, or get one of the barmen to conjure up something special.

Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen

Freeman’s Bay

Sweat Shop isn’t just a place for 20-something year-olds to get totally twisted every Saturday, but it so happens to be home to some of Auckland’s best ribs, mmm. These ribs are sure to make Dad smile, with some of the tastiest flavours on offer. St Louis pork ribs accompanied by smoked apple wood and sweet chilli…one word, YUM. Father’s Day is looking up, padres.

Federal St

Nothing else screams Father’s Day like a good ol’ meal from our mates over at Depot. Dad really will be spoilt for choice with a range of Al Brown’s delicacies on offer. Treat Dad to a tray of orongo oysters, followed by the turbot sliders and wash them down with a of glass of Depot’s brews…or two, or three. We think this is the perfect way to Dad’s heart (plus, a total win-win for you and the siblings too!)

Goode Brothers

New Lynn, NorthWest and Botany

Goode Brothers is sure to please you and the fam this Father’s Day with some of the tastiest food on offer. Because boy oh boy, we know a man can eat. This is the perfect place to treat your dad, and with three venues Auckland-wide, you’re never far from their mouth-watering Kiwitalian fare. In this cosy joint, you can order your very own customised pasta or even attend their pasta school. Dad’s gonna be stoked—trust us.
