If you’re planning a road trip down to Albany (Kinjarling, as it’s known by the Menang Noongar people) then get booking asap because we’ve found the best Airbnbs on offer in this gorgeous coastal town.
Whether you want to be close to the town’s cafe and restaurant scene, by the beach or tucked away on a rural farm property, there is an Airbnb in Albany to suit every taste.
River’s End Retreat
This mighty little shipping container on the Kalgan River is proof that good things do indeed come in small (and incredibly luxe) packages. Completely self-contained and set on a working farm—you might spot grazing horses, sheep, alpacas and kangaroos— River’s End Retreat is perfect for couples or solo travellers looking to go off-grid and get back to nature for a bit. Just remember to BYO marshmallows for the deckside firepit (conditions permitting).
Historic Cottage
This charming red cottage is just a stone’s throw from the centre of town, decorated with beautiful vintage wares, a roaring fireplace, a free-standing bath, an outdoor shower plus luxurious linens for the ultimate night’s sleep. Nestled in a historic street by Albany’s harbour, this Airbnb is a 5-minute walk to the cafes and bars of York Street, including must-visit restaurants Liberté and Majuba Bistro, and is around the corner from the weekly Albany Farmer’s Market. Cook up a feast with fresh veggies and dine under the stars in the lush rear garden.
Marine Cottage
This white weatherboard cottage is filled with beautiful vintage decor, combining the thoughtful touches of a rustic farm cottage and a luxe beach house. Close to Albany’s town beach, Middleton Beach, it’s an easy walk to the nearby coastline, cafes and boutique shops, and a short drive into town. After a day exploring Albany, come back to curl up with a book in the light-filled lounge room or sit down on the front deck to crack open a bottle of local wine.
Tiny House
Perfect as a couple’s retreat, this cosy studio is housed inside a converted shed, which has been fitted out with a kitchen, comfortable living space and a queen size bed, plus everything else you can think of for a comfortable stay. Absolutely filled with sunlight (thanks to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows), the studio is connected to a private garden shaded by a large elm tree. Only a short walk into town, we can’t think of a cuter place to escape to.
StableBASE
StableBASE is an architecturally designed and environmentally-conscious Airbnb housed on six lovely acres, which features a veggie patch you are welcome to use, and friendly horses and chickens to say hello to. Inside the home, you’ll find a traditional fireplace, high-quality amenities and a spacious living room that spills out to the deck via french doors. You can also arrange for your well-behaved pooch to join.
Majuba Country Lodge
The team behind Albany restaurant Majuba Bistro also has two dreamy lodges out in Kalgan, and if you’ve dined there, you know the decor is pretty special and sophisticated. Savuti One and Serengeti Two sit on 17 luxurious acres and offer views over Oyster Harbour, where you can watch kangaroos grazing and the sunsets painting the sky in this true country setting.
City Sanctuary
The aptly named City Sanctuary will feel like a home away from home, with its modern facilities and vintage touches. We are particularly impressed by the heavenly-looking, Insta-worthy free-standing tub, surrounded by stunning plants. This Airbnb is close to the town centre, ideal for cafe hopping and shopping, and you won’t find it hard to unwind each day in the courtyard gardens or open-plan living room.
Mudlark Cottage
Another gem by Middleton Beach, this three-bedroom, weatherboard character home has all the makings of a 10/10 holiday. There’s a wood fire to keep you warm on wintery Albany nights, and a sun-filled verandah to kickstart your mornings in summer. The beach, cafes and a popular fish and chip shop are just around the corner, plus a public park where kids can run wild.
Black Valley
Host Georgie has designed Black Valley by herself, a dream she has been working on for many years. You can see and feel the love in every corner of the house, from the beautiful linens, sage green touches (including wonderful velvet couches) and manicured garden. The property is also by a nature reserve and walking track for leisurely hikes.
3 Parade Street
This stunning Airbnb has easy access to the main strip in town, not to mention brekky supplies, a cheese platter and wine offered at check-in. Sleeping six guests in three bedrooms (in king beds, no less) this is the perfect Airbnb to book if you want to organise a couples or group trip down south. There’s also a fantastic lookout over the sparkling harbour and the iconic Brig Amity ship.
