Ilma Beach House

15 Farm Break Ln, Naturaliste WA 6281

Ilma Beach House has quickly become the talk of the town—and with views like this, it’s easy to see why. Perched above the white sands of Old Dunsborough with uninterrupted views across Geographe Bay, this breezy new venue pairs some of the region’s best produce with a sun-soaked Mediterranean-inspired setting that’s made for the afternoon of your dreams.

Ilma means water in Maltese, and here that name is reflected in every detail—from the setting to the soul of the food.

Open for brunch and lunch, the menu champions coastal flavours—light, seasonal, and full of fresh, West Aussie ingredients. Think Exmouth prawn cocktails, venison tartare, grilled Abrolhos Island octopus and Kalbarri crayfish linguine, all crafted with precision and respect for the produce. The interiors are just as divine, with natural textures, creamy tones and stone finishes giving laidback Euro beach club vibes in the best way.

De’sendent

152 Bussell Highway, Margaret River WA 6285

Say hello to de’sendent—the next chapter from the team behind the beloved Arimia Estate. Still led by executive chef Evan Hayter and co-owner Ann Spencer, the new space delivers everything we loved about Arimia—hyper-local, seasonal produce and a focus on considered, boundary-pushing cooking—now with an edgier, more experimental edge. Think fine dining with a rebellious streak, soundtracked by So-Cal punk and backed by serious culinary cred.

From Wednesday to Saturday, the kitchen serves a tightly curated tasting menu at $180 per person with optional wine pairing for $99. You’ll want to allow at least two hours to make the most of it. The menu changes on the reg but past highlights have included kangaroo and fig tartare, charcoal brioche prawn salad, pickled oyster, and Margaret River venison—each dish creative, clever and confidently executed. Arrive early from 4pm to 6pm for the snack menu and something crisp from the bar to start the night right.

Voyager Estate

41 Stevens Rd, Margaret River WA 6285

A long, lazy lunch at Voyage Estate is a must for any serious foodie making their way through the Margaret River region. Known to be one of WA’s most beautiful cellar doors, this iconic winery offers a refined yet relaxed fine dining experience that celebrates the region’s best seasonal produce. The signature degustation is a slow and indulgent affair—think five courses (or more) thoughtfully curated to pair with Voyager’s biodynamic wines, many of which you’ll sip just metres from where they were grown. Expect delicately plated dishes that hero freshly foraged ingredients from the on-site organic garden and local suppliers, served in an elegant dining room that looks out over rose gardens and rolling vines. It’s a true celebration of Margaret River’s unique environment—and one of the best ways to spend an afternoon down south.

Normal Van Main Street

Anyone who heads down south regularly will already know about Normal Van. Headed up by Canadian Chef Robert Webster and his partner Jess Waldron, they're known for slinging probably the best North American eats in the whole South West. Previously though, they didn't have a permanent residence so you had to keep up to date on socials if you wanted to track 'em down.

Thankfully, they've now got a spot to call home on Marg's main street. Here you can take a seat out in the courtyard or slide into a cosy booth and try your best to choose from bacon cheeseburgers, crispy chicken burgers and other good stuff before washing it down with a cracking little glass of something special from the fun booze menu. You are in Margaret River after all.

Glenarty Road

A visit to Glenarty Road feels like stepping into a living, breathing love letter to the land. This regenerative farm, vineyard and rustic farmhouse restaurant is the realisation of Sasha and Ben McDonald’s dream—bringing together five generations of family farming into one wholesome, down-to-earth destination. The ever-evolving menu is a celebration of seasonality, sustainability and simplicity and you can choose from a three or five-course farm-to-table feast and get set for a flavour-packed journey through house-made charcuterie, woodfired top-to-tail meats, hand-harvested produce, and decadent desserts inspired by the orchard and flower garden.

There’s also an à la carte-style grazing option if you’d rather spread out on the lawn with a glass of wild wine in hand. Everything here is grown, raised, pickled, baked, or preserved with intention—and it shows in every bite. Want to dig deeper? Join one of the farm and garden tours and see it all in action.

Miki’s Open Kitchen

131 Bussell Hwy, Margaret River WA 6285

Miki’s Open Kitchen is home to head chef/genius/culinary wizard Mikihito Nagai and some of the best Japanese food in the entire state. Book ahead (like as far ahead as possible) and choose between four different degustation menus (including one for kids), sit back and enjoy the show of your dinner being made in front of you in the open kitchen.

When I asked my friend Alisha who’s recently spent a bit of time around Margs what her most-loved restaurant was, this was at the top of her list. “My favourite date night restaurant in Margaret River has to be Miki’s. It’s an amazing degustation experience and I like that there’s a few different menus to choose from. It’s not just the food either—you can go for pairing options that range from cocktails, wine, whiskey and sake to homemade non-alcoholic drinks. The food is really unique and every plate is put together so thoughtfully.”

Vasse Felix

aves Road (Cnr, Tom Cullity Dr, Cowaramup WA 6284

As Margaret River’s founding wine estate, Vasse Felix holds a special place in WA’s culinary heart—and it just keeps getting better with age. Set beside the region’s oldest vineyard, the estate is home to a stunning cellar door, contemporary art gallery and one seriously elegant restaurant that offers an unforgettable long lunch experience. The menu changes regularly based on what’s fresh and in season, but you can expect creative, beautifully balanced dishes showcasing local produce and bold international techniques. Think toothfish with miso and eggplant, grass-fed beef with pistachio and carrot, or scallops with kohlrabi and pear—each as artful as the wines they’re paired with. Go à la carte or opt for the full tasting menu with matched wines if you really want to lean in. Either way, grab a seat by the window and while away a slow afternoon with top-tier food, wine and vineyard views.

Cullen

4323 Caves Rd, Wilyabrup WA 6280

Another pioneer of the Margaret River wine region, Cullen Wines is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates thoughtful, sustainable dining paired with world-class vino. This fully biodynamic, carbon-neutral and naturally powered estate is as passionate about the land as it is about what ends up on your plate and in your glass. The rustic granite and timber cellar door is gorg, but the real magic happens when you take a seat beneath the peppermint trees, overlooking the vines, and indulge in a long, seasonal lunch.

Need more convincing? Just ask Nigella Lawson. The culinary queen herself took to Instagram to sing Cullen’s praises, advising anyone who lands in Margs to head there straight away, declaring it “heaven, heaven, HEAVEN,” and her “cure for jet lag and recipe for deep joy.” She went on to say, “I just revel in the blue of this sky, the green of these vines, and the exuberant red of the sun umbrellas!” Her favourite sip? The 2019 Chardonnay Pet Nat—“light, elegant, sherbetty but not sharp, and lusciously lovely.”

Amelia Park Restaurant

3857 Caves Rd, Wilyabrup WA 6280

Set on the rolling hills of Amelia Park Vineyard with the Wilyabrup Valley stretching out beyond, this much-loved restaurant is all about savouring the delights of a down-south lunch. Run by award-winning husband-and-wife duo Blair and Renee Allen, Amelia Park brings together years of hospitality know-how, heartfelt service, and a passion for local produce.

At the centre of the open kitchen is a custom woodfired oven and grill, burning local jarrah to infuse every dish with just the right amount of smokiness. The menu is all about seasonal, share-style dining—think chilli crab crumpet with lemon curd, Wagin duck leg with plum and macadamia, or a slow-roasted lamb shoulder served with tahini cauliflower and dried olive. Much of the produce is grown on-site, and the attention to detail shines through in every bite.

The Common

1 Resort Pl, Gnarabup WA 6285

The Common is the kind of laidback local you’ll wish you had back home and come 4pm, the deck fills fast with locals and holiday goers keen to sip on an ice-cold brew while they catch the last rays of the day. Our advice? Get there arrive early if you want to score a prime perch.

The menu leans into the rich flavours of the South West with a dash of American-Mexican flair, serving up everything from fish tacos (a local favourite) to burgers, seasonal mains and share plates. Whether you’re chasing a cosy red by the fireplace, a casual dinner with friends, or a post-surf feed with live sport and a jug of beer, The Common has you sorted. There’s something happening most nights of the week too—think burger nights, Thirsty Thursdays with $15 margs, Chase the Ace and live tunes on weekends. Warm, welcoming, and packed with coastal charm, this is your classic go-to pub, Margies style.

Fishbone

422 Harmans Mill Rd, Wilyabrup WA 6280

This cellar door-slash-Japanese kitchen dishes up some of the best value eats in the region, all with a side of vineyard views over the 165-acre estate. Grab a seat on the deck and order karaage chicken, fresh sushi rolls, or a big bowl of Japanese curry with the pan-fried fish—perfect for those cooler Margaret River days.

The food is fresh and sophisticated, with a modern Japanese twist that pairs beautifully with their boutique wines. If you’re short on time, their takeaway sushi is top-notch and perfect for a vineyard picnic.

Swings And Roundabouts

2807 Caves Rd, Yallingup WA 6282

Whether you’re perched at the original Yallingup vineyard—glass in hand, sitting on an actual swing—or watching the world go by from their Margaret River town outpost, Swings and Roundabouts is always a good time. The Yallingup cellar door is where it all began, and it nails that relaxed down south energy with crackling fires, sweeping lawn views, and a buzzing atmosphere perfect for groups. The Mediterranean-style wines are made to be shared, just like the food—think rustic pizzas, hearty share plates, and local produce done right.

On my last girls trip, it was exactly what we needed: a warming wine tasting followed by a big, no-fuss feed by the fire. My personal pick? The Norma pizza—with fried eggplant, ricotta salata and chilli honey, it’s next-level. There are times though, where I can’t go past a good ol’ fashioned margherita. But I have to admit—It’s got to be loaded with olives and if I’m going all in, a serious helping of prosciutto. Not so classic after all.

Rustico At Hayshed Hill

511 Harmans Mill Rd, Wilyabrup WA 6280

Rustico at Hay Shed Hill is known for dishing up one of the best-value degustations in the region. The five-course chef’s menu comes in at just $89—complete with 10 beautifully plated share-style dishes that take you on a Mediterranean-inspired journey. Add matched wines for $49 (generously poured, consider yourself warned), or opt for a jug of sangria—red, white or rosé—if you’re in the mood for something a little more playful.

On a family trip with my parents and sister, we kicked things off with a cellar door tasting—and let’s just say, we were very well acquainted with the wine list before we even sat down for lunch. From that first bite to the last sip, it’s a long, lively feast in a gorgeous vineyard setting that makes you want to linger all afternoon.

Chow's Table

Unit 12/5 Quininup Rd, Yallingup WA 6282

A long lunch at Chow’s Table should be non-negotiable on any down south itinerary. This airy, modern space overlooking the vines serves up a bold and brilliant fusion of Chinese and Malay flavours, courtesy of owner and Head Chef Mal Chow—who’s bringing massive flavour and finesse to the region’s dining scene. The vibe is warm, lively and refreshingly unfussy, with a shared-style menu that’s made for group feasting. Do not skip the signature Peking roast duck with star anise sauce or the hand-pulled roti—both are absolute standouts—but honestly, everything’s a win. From dumplings to Wagyu beef skewers, fried chicken wings with caramel to spice-packed curries, the dishes strike the perfect balance of comfort and creativity. Once you’ve had your fill, stroll across the grass to House of Cards next door and finish the afternoon with a cellar door tasting. Pro tip: book ahead—this one’s no secret, and for good reason.

Morries

2/149 Bussell Hwy, Margaret River WA 6285

Perfect for date night or a cheeky cocktail session with the crew, Morries is a cosy tapas joint and award-winning small bar in the heart of Margaret River. The team here are all about delivering moreish snacks and seriously creative cocktails in a space that feels like your coolest friend’s lounge—welcoming, intimate and vibey in all the right ways. Nab a spot on the garden terrace for people-watching or pull up a stool at the bar to watch the masters in action as they shake, stir and flame their way through the drool-worthy drinks list.

If cocktails are your love language, don’t miss mega hour from 5pm to 6pm—where you can score two top-shelf cocktails for $30. Prefer wine or beer? The drinks list is packed with local favourites and global gems to keep you sipping all night. Add a round of confit duck bao or croquettes fille with Halls Family Dairy suzette and you’re golden.

Yarri

From the moment you step inside Yarri, you know you’re in for something special. Set in a modern dining room in the centre of Dunsborough, this celebrated spot brings together sophisticated food, thoughtful wine, and a whole lot of heart. Chef Aaron Carr’s seasonal set menu showcases the very best of Western Australia—drawing on ethically sourced local ingredients, daily harvests from their own organic garden and strong ties with some of the region’s most passionate growers.

Kick things off with a signature cocktail (you’ll want to linger over this list), then settle in with freshly baked sourdough before working your way through a beautifully line-up of dishes, each matched with Snake + Herring’s phenomenal wines.

Pizzica

73 Bussell Hwy, Margaret River WA 6285

Located in the undercroft of the iconic Bridgefield Guest House you’ll find Pizzica, a little piece of Italy right here in our south west. Come hungry and peruse the three-page menu loaded with every type of pizza imaginable, a delicious selection of antipasti and mains such as charcoal grilled pork ribs and a fisherman’s stew loaded with prawns, mussels, cuttlefish and market fish in a rich tomato broth.

You’ll also want to try the Pucce—a traditional stuffed bread roll from Salento filled with deliciousness like hot salami, ricotta, chilli honey and roasted capsicum—and definitely save room for dessert. And if you’d rather enjoy your meal in your trackies with a bottle of red from the day’s cellar door haul, they do an epic takeaway too.

Teddi’s Big Spoon

113A Bussell Hwy, Margaret River WA 6285

When those Korean BBQ cravings hit, waste no time in hitting up Teddi’s Big Spoon. Catering to all appetites and diets (yep, even vegetarians will be spoilt for choice here), Teddi’s offers a stacked traditional BBQ menu alongside more incredible rice and noodle dishes than you could poke your chopsticks at. The most popular menu item is the premium set, which will see you sizzling your way through a generous variety of cuts of beef and your choice of pork or chicken with rice, miso soup and salad for $99 between two people. Did we mention this joint is BYO? You’re in for a guaranteed good time.

Close to town, Brewhouse is a laidback brewery with live music, a beautiful outdoor seating area and a toasty fireplace for when it gets chilly. The 1940s cottage has been transformed and the open kitchen serves up good local produce, including a mean beef short rib with corn tostadas and a spicy Asian-style squid salad that gets both the eyes and mouth watering.

What’s new? The crew here have just opened their very own on-site brewery—so you can sip a line up of award-winning beers knowing they’ve been brewed right where you drink them. Alongside their solid core range, the team are all about pushing the limits with seasonal releases and experimental brews you won’t find anywhere else.

Burger Baby

2 Andrews Way, Margaret River WA 6285

The trio of local guys behind Burger Baby have well and truly mastered the art of comfort food. Slinging massive burgers with generous sides, crispy chicken wings drizzled in tantalising sauces, a chicken parmi and epic snacks like pork bites, poutine and brisket loaded chips, it’s no surprise they’ve become one of the top spots in town. And if you prefer to enjoy your comfort food in bed, you can even jump online and have Burger Baby delivered right to your door.

Wills Domain

We’ve had a long-standing crush on Wills Domain—and if you’ve ever settled in here for lunch overlooking the vines that crisscross Gunyulgup Valley, you’ll understand why. With more awards than you can poke a stick at, this superior yet relaxed spot blends breathtaking views, slick service and a food philosophy that celebrates wild-harvested, sustainable WA produce in all its glory.

Led by Culinary Director Jed Gerrard and Chef de Cuisine Sergio Labbe, the kitchen turns out technically brilliant, aesthetically pleasing plates that demand your full attention. While there’s a tasting and à la carte menu, to experience the pure joy of this place we recommend going wild with the Wills signature menu—a 10-plate culinary extraordinaire ($189) designed to be savoured over three indulgent hours. You’ll start with house made native seed bread and finish with delicate petit fours, with showstoppers like Shark Bay prawns with celeriac and jalapeño, Wagin duck with rhubarb and muntries, and Bahen & Co chocolate with wattle seed and Geraldton wax in between.

Opt in for the $85 drinks pairing and you’ll be treated to estate wines, a chamomile-infused West Winds G&T, and an espresso martini to round things off just right.

Margaret River Tuck Shop

147 Bussell Hwy, Margaret River WA 6285

Open for dinner from Thursday through till Monday, Margaret River Tuck Shop's menu celebrates the very best produce that WA has to offer. It’s all about share plates at this abode and while you sort out what’s on the cards for the night, just take our advice and order the Abrolhos Island scallops and house ceviche with Geraldton wax to start. Follow it up with the butcher’s cut beef served with native bush tomato mojo, chimichurri potato rosti and chipotle aioli or the seafood pumpkin gnocchi with Shark Bay tiger prawns and clams alongside an ancho chilli cream and finger lime. All equally mind blowing.

As if that wasn’t enough, these guys are also a top pick in town when it comes to pizza. Their sourdough is light, fluffy and made with love, and they have plenty of options for vegans, vegetarians, seafood lovers and carnivores alike.

Wild Hop Brewing Co

1301 Wildwood Rd, Yallingup WA 6282

If wood-fired eats, epic craft brews and lush outdoor vibes sound like your kind of afternoon, Wild Hop should be high on your hit list. Set on a rural property in Yallingup, this cruisy brewery gets the sweet spot between family-friendly and cool local hangout—with rotating seasonal beers, a killer kitchen, and plenty of room to stretch out with your crew (doggo included).

The kitchen centres around a wood-fired rotisserie oven in full view, dishing up flame-licked, smoky goodness like charred meats, loaded flatbreads and seasonal sides. The menu changes regularly, so there’s always something new to try—just like the beer lineup. Pop in for Hoppy Hour (3.30–4.30pm weekdays) and you’ll score 25% off Wild Hop brews. Not a beer drinker? There’s a tight, local list of boutique wines and spirits featuring some of their favourite neighbouring producers. Walk-ins are welcome, but booking ahead is a smart move.

Masseria

3478 Caves Road, Wilyabrup WA 6280

Bringing together the talents of chef Ben Jacob and renowned winemaker Larry Cherubino (also a personal favourite of mine), Masseria is a must for anyone on the lookout for insanely good Italian food with a South West twist. The osteria-style menu reflects casual Italian-Mediterranean cuisine elevated by exceptional WA produce and flavours drawn from Italy’s culinary hotspots. Think handmade pastas, wood-fired proteins and simple yet elegant dishes made to pair perfectly with a glass (or two) of wine.

The wine list is equally impressive, featuring back vintages from Cherubino’s own cellar alongside standout drops from Italy and France. As Larry puts it, “My aim is to frame the regions of Western Australia, alongside their international counterparts.”

After a callout to my friends on their Margaret River picks, PR superstar Georgia said this is her pick. “It’s our go-to for Italian food set in the magical South West region. It’s like bringing a slice of Southern Italy to WA in the best possible way.”

Heads up: Masseria closes for winter from 28 July, reopening 3 September.
