Western Australia’s connection to mainland China is getting a major boost, with China Southern Airlines resuming year-round flights between Perth and Guangzhou. The reinstated service strengthens the state’s aviation network while making travel between WA and one of China’s biggest international hubs easier for both business and leisure travellers.

The route initially returned as a seasonal service late last year and ramped up during the peak holiday period, but the move to year-round operations marks a key step in restoring international connectivity between Western Australia and China.

China Southern Restarts Year-Round Flights From Perth

China Southern Airlines will operate the non-stop route between Perth and Guangzhou three times per week, using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The flights run on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, delivering tens of thousands of seats annually between the two cities.

The year-round service follows the airline’s successful seasonal return in late 2025, which ran through the Christmas and Lunar New Year period before transitioning into a permanent schedule. Previously, China Southern operated the route continuously from 2011 until 2020, before services were halted during the pandemic.

Strengthening Tourism And Business Links With China

The resumption of year-round flights is expected to significantly improve travel opportunities between Western Australia and China. As a major aviation hub in southern China, Guangzhou provides convenient onward connections to destinations across mainland China, Asia and Europe.

For Western Australians, that means easier access to cities throughout China and beyond via China Southern’s extensive network. Meanwhile, the direct route also opens the door for more Chinese visitors to travel to WA for holidays, business and education.

Supporting WA’s Tourism Recovery And Growth

Aviation capacity remains one of the biggest drivers of tourism recovery, and the return of year-round flights is expected to bring a steady stream of international visitors into the state.

China is already one of Western Australia’s most valuable visitor markets, with Chinese travellers known for longer stays and higher tourism spend compared with many other international markets. More flights mean greater accessibility for travellers keen to explore the state’s national parks, coastline and growing food and wine scene.

The service is also forecast to deliver broader economic benefits by supporting local businesses, hospitality operators and jobs across the tourism sector.

A Key Step In Rebuilding Perth’s International Aviation Network

The return of year-round operations from China Southern Airlines represents another milestone in rebuilding Perth’s international aviation network following the pandemic.

Direct global connections remain critical for attracting international visitors, facilitating trade and keeping Western Australia competitive as a long-haul destination. With Guangzhou serving as one of China’s largest international gateways, the route helps position Perth as a well-connected entry point between Australia and Asia.

For travellers, it also means one very welcome thing: more options to get between Western Australia and China no matter the time of year.
