Perth’s New Midland Station Officially Opens As Metro Reaches Final Milestone
Perth’s northeast has a brand-new transport hub. The new METRONET Midland Station is officially open, marking the completion of the 23rd station delivered under Western Australia’s landmark METRONET program.
For a community that’s long called for a modern, better-connected station, it’s a significant moment—and a major step in Midland’s ongoing renewal.

Where Is The New Midland Train Station Located?
The new station sits east of the former site, repositioned closer to Midland Gate Shopping Centre and Midland Health Campus to improve day-to-day accessibility.
Works began in July 2023 and included demolishing the 57-year-old station and relocating the Helena Street level crossing to Cale Street. A 24/7 pedestrian overpass now connects both sides of the rail line, making it easier (and safer) to move between the town centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Designed to reflect the area’s Noongar culture and industrial heritage—set against the historic Midland Railway Workshops—the station also incorporates the original Midland Station clock, preserved and reinstated following a strong community campaign.
Midland Station Opening: When Do Train Services Start?
Regular passenger services begin tomorrow, with trains operating every 12 minutes during peak periods and every 15 minutes off-peak.
Under the Cook Government’s new Go Anywhere Fare, passengers using a SmartRider with Autoload will pay no more than $2.80 to travel anywhere on the network, or $3.50 using contactless payments.
For daily commuters, that means more predictable travel times and capped fares across Perth’s expanding rail system.
Midland Station Features: Bus Interchange, Parking And Public Space
The new Midland Station isn’t just a platform upgrade—it’s a fully integrated transport precinct.
Key features include:
- A 12-stand bus interchange with toilets and customer service facilities
- A five-storey car park with more than 800 bays (operational since January 2025)
- Security cameras, lifts and duress alarms
- Provision for future electric vehicle charging stations
- New public spaces and landscaped areas
Community-designed artwork, created by local artists in collaboration with Indigo Junction, features across the bus interchange canopy panels—embedding local identity directly into the infrastructure.
How Midland’s New Train Station Fits Into The METRONET Expansion
The opening marks the final rail infrastructure commitment under WA Labor’s 2017 METRONET vision.
In total, METRONET has delivered:
- 23 new stations
- 72 kilometres of new rail
- Removal of 15 level crossings
The project supported more than 250 local jobs, with 16 Aboriginal businesses awarded contracts over $50,000.
Jointly funded by the Albanese and Cook Governments, the Midland Station project has achieved a 6 Star Green Star Design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia—the highest possible sustainability rating, recognised internationally as “World Leadership”.
