Your friends may tease you for ordering the same pub feed every week, but why mess around with a good thing? Forget fancy. Forget pretentious. The classic chicken parmi is simple, tasty and that’s just the way we like it. Whether you’re looking for a bargain bite to push you through the working week, or you want to kick back on the weekend, Perth has perfected this classic.
Most pubs worth their salt should have the parmi covered, but if you’re not willing to risk it, we've rounded up some of the best parmigianas in Perth.
Oh and let’s settle one thing before we dive in, we asked you whether it was parmi or parma and the votes were clear—in Perth, we’re definitely all aboard the parmi train.
Alright, here they are, the best parmis in Perth.
The Parkerville Tavern
Parkerville
This charming pub in the Perth Hills has to be one of the best spots to smash a parmi in Perth. Surrounded by trees, the beer garden is an absolute stunner complete with a firepit to keep you toasty throughout winter. The parky parmi delivers on all fronts too.
The Woodbridge Hotel (aka “The Woody”)
Guildford
Many of Perth’s parmi fanatics will tell you The Woody is the best pub in Perth for a parmi. Everything’s done just right and you can load up with different toppings too, all completed with fat steak cut chips cooked to perfection and a side salad you’ll actually eat.
Vic Park Hotel
Victoria Park
With six different toppings to choose from, the Vic Park Hotel is a good spot to go if you like to mix your parmi up each week. And if you head down on Thursday, it'll only set you back $20 with chips and salad.
The Camfield
Burswood
You might even consider leaving the footy early, just so you can dig into the parmi next door at Australia’s biggest pub. Expect a mighty serve, complete with local ham, tomato and mozzarella cheese.
The Back Bar At Hylin
West Leederville
You really can’t go wrong with a $12 parmi, especially when it’s served up in the chilled Back Bar at Hylin in West Leedy. This killer deal is only available Wednesdays with a drink so consider it your hump day treat.
Mean Bean Diner
Bullsbrook
Coming in at $20 a serve, the Mean Bean Diner’s ginormous slab of chicken parm (it takes up half the size of a regular pizza box, in case you were wondering) will hit the spot every time, especially with those crunchy chips on the side.
Johnny Fox’s
Northbridge
Taking over the old Rosie site in Northbridge, Johnny Fox’s has not dropped a beat since they opened the revamped Irish pub. And while we’re quite partial to their classic Irish roast, you gotta give ‘em credit for their gigantic parmi complete with a generous serve of chips and salad. Head in Tuesday for Parmageddon for a damn good $15 parmi.
Ciao Italia
South Perth and Nedlands
Make Nonna proud and dig into this South Perth institution’s cottoletta or pollo parmigiana (that’s beef or chicken for the uninitiated). You’re almost guaranteed to spill sauce all over yourself, but hey, it’s a sign you enjoyed your meal, right?
The Stirling Arms
Guildford
Another notch in Guildford's parmi belt, The Stirling Arms is home to 'Get Schnitfaced' Tuesdays where you can nab a classic parmi with chips and salad for $20. Not bad at all.
The Guildford Hotel
Guildford
It’s no surprise one of Perth’s most iconic pubs also dishes up a mean chicken schnitzel. It comes with Napoli sauce, smoked pulled pork, cheese and of course, chippies. Oh and feel free to bring your fur babies along for one too, they do pup-friendly parmis every Sunday.
Benny’s
Fremantle
This laid-back joint slings out some damn fine drinks, but let’s not look over the cracking chicken parmi. We reckon you’re best off washing it down with Benny’s Aperol Spritz, made specially with their homemade Aperol sorbet, because who said it always has to go with a pint?
South Beach Hotel
South Beach
It’s parmi-geddon at the South Beach Hotel with the Outback Parmigiana. It comes with tomato sugo, basil, pesto, fries, and a side salad. And on Wednesdays they're going for just $18, so get down there quick.
Blue Spoon
Wembley
Look, sometimes you’re feeling lazy and can’t bear the thought of leaving the couch for your parmi hit. And in those moments, don’t settle for a sub-par supermarket parmi, go straight to Blue Spoon in Wembley. They dish up the most delicious takeaway parmis every Thursday, with a rotating side which can include the likes of creamy mushroom pasta, mash potato and more.
The Rosemount
North Perth
The parmi is the ultimate crowd pleaser and even vegetarians can get stuck into it at The Rosemount. The eggplant parmi is smothered in cheese and napolitana sauce and might just make us want to ditch the meat. Don't worry, carnivores can also go with the chicken parm. And on Wednesdays you can smash either one down for a measly $16.
The Oxford Hotel
Leederville
Another classic pub, and another perfect parmi. It comes with all the good stuff, just be prepared to swat your friends' forks away when they try to steal a bite. On Sundays, a parmi will only set you back just $15.
When you're done with those, check out Perth's best fried chicken.
